Okay, so the hand signaller claims he removed the detonator because the train was clearly not stopping. Then why remove the detonator, that is the entire point of it!

These drivers are under a tremendous amount of pressure to get things right, even under the circumstances of that day, i think its right that both the hand signaler and driver were at fault but it is also right that they used the opportunity to learn lessons rather than apportion blame or sack people, these trains carry many people and many peoples lives are under their care. I do hope however tat these lessons learned resulted in these processes becoming simpler to understand.

The driver is not to blame in this instance. The hand signaller was not hand signalling, the red lamp was not correctly displayed and the detonator was removed. I sincerely hope the driver was not black marked for this. As he said in his own words, they were passing signals at danger all day.
@franciswadsworth-lj08cvx3 жыл бұрын
I remember how to obey signals, only if the line is clear, as well as speed restrictions apply, not to pass signal at danger unless its emergency or manual signalling, contact duty manager. Also limited clearance and I also done track awareness course.

So the handle signaller was at fault... Not the driver...
@PottersVideos25 жыл бұрын
You're wrong. In my opinion the driver's actions contributed to the train passing the signal as far as it did following the SPAD. He should have made an immediate emergency brake application.
@droge1924 жыл бұрын
@@PottersVideos2 - Well as you said, that is just your opinion, although you seem highly confident of such opinions in these comments. The fact of the matter is, had the linesman been clearly standing at the rails, holding the red flag, and with the detonator in place, the train would have stopped well before reaching the station.
@PottersVideos24 жыл бұрын
@@droge192 Both parties clearly were at fault though. He should have known that he had SPADed, and stopped ASAP. But he didn't. That was his error, not the handsignaller's.

Exit handsignaller was at fault but the real problem that always occurs in these circumstances is that all the people involved won’t of done these things very often or even never before. I been on the railway nearly 35 years and a handsignalman a few times and only once did I get involved in TBW at Newport and it was full of people who either thought they knew what they where doing but didn’t or knew what they where doing but where so high and mighty in the signalling world couldn’t bring themselves to explain it to us track walking monkeys properly !
