Dr. Daphne Bascom earned her PhD in physiological sciences at the University of Oxford, Laboratory of Physiology, in the United Kingdom. She completed her medical degree and residency in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Daphne began her career as a cancer surgeon, but grew tired of being in “sick care.” She's now a certified health and fitness coach at The Vegan Gym.

Hi Daphne! I love your content 😊 Of course you talk a lot about exercise and workout which is massively helpful! Thank you for that. But what I am also interested in is the question: How much calories do you burn when you work with your brain? How much more can you eat when you for example study or teach or write many hours of the day? Could you do a podcast about that? I would love that because as a teacher I somtimes feel that the calorie intake that is recommended for my size, age and weight is way too low. Could you explain the science? ❤

Hey there! Thank you for the lovely comment. While mental activities like studying, teaching, or writing do burn calories, the amount is generally not as high as physical activities. However, I totally understand why you're curious about this, especially with your active and demanding role as a teacher. It sounds like a great idea for a podcast episode! Can a plantbased diet and body recomposition help if you already have osteopenia or osteoporosis?

Certainly! A plant-based diet can be very beneficial for managing osteopenia or osteoporosis, especially if it's rich in calcium, vitamin D, and other bone-friendly nutrients. Foods like fortified plant milks, leafy greens, and tofu are great sources. 💚
