I've been a fan for, jeez, ages. You weren't even dyeing your hair yet, that I could tell, and Simon didn't have any facial hair. You two were both still teachers. You teach us all now, but I mean formally. The point I am making is, I've been a fan for a long time, and I care about you two. I am glad you're being able to make a positive change, and I'm rooting for you all the way.

Girl, if you decide down the road to get a wheelchair hit me up! I have the most tricked out wheelchair I have ever seen. It has multicolored lights on the wheel spokes, a bike bell, a bag under the seat for holding all my stuff, NuDrive Air attachments to make it easier for me to push it myself, and the frame is bright shimmery green!

I've lost around 80lbs so far and honestly the best thing that has helped me is being more mindful of what I'm eating. Which sounds hokey but it has worked. If I feel like I wanna eat some chips, I really have to think, "okay, are you even hungry? do you just have a craving? are you hungry enough to eat an apple?" If I don't want to eat the apple, then I'm probably not really hungry and feel like eating just to have something to do. If an apple sounds good, then might as well eat the apple instead. Not that I don't eat chips anymore because I do, I just have to be more mindful of how that fits in with what I eat the rest of the day. And also the next best helpful thing is DRINK MORE WATER. Just keep it all over your house. Set alarms if you have to. Lots of the time people confuse thirsty and hungry signals so keeping hydrated helps cut down that confusion.

Whoa maybe its obvious, but the dialog you have with yourself is really smart! I think I should try that, if im not hungry enough to eat something healthy then I'm probably not hungry!

Simon and Martina I'm sooo happy for you Martina, I had battled with hypothyroidism for over 4 years and has been really hard for me. Specially since I didn't event knew what was that or that I was suffering from it, nobody in my family has it. I was gaining weight really fast, loosing my hair (I still do but not that much, It still a struggle.) My heaviest was 279lbs and I'm 5'5 yep really heavy. I started my medication last year and with a low carb diet and Intermittent Fasting, I'm today at 210lbs. I do a lot of things that you do like eating more veggies and less calories. I also learned that is OK to be flexible with your diet because if you go all no, sugar, no chocolate,no chips, no a pice of cake, no to everything, you eventually will end up eating the hole thing and hating your journey to better yourself. Everything with moderation and portion control is what is working for me, the only thing I gave up for good was soda. Keep up your good work Martina you always look beautiful. 😊

Like you, calorie counting and realizing why I needed to lose weight (for me, my health and wellness, not anyone else) is what has worked. My favorite lower calorie recipe is banana pancakes. I LOVE pancakes but they are so calorie dense so this recipe really works for me because I can have it any time. It's so easy: 1 medium banana, 1/3cup oats, 2 eggs, bit of cinnamon, bit of vanilla, pinch salt. Blend the oats to get oat flour, throw the rest of the ingredients in the blender and mix. Then make your pancakes. It makes about 8 palm sized pancakes. The whole recipe is less than 400 calories and it tastes like banana bread pancakes. I love it! I love both you and Simon's upbeat but also real attitudes. You're beautiful inside and out. Thank you for your videos ❤️

I have spine fractures and have been mostly home bound for 7 years. I've had 2 bariatric surgeries and still wasn't losing. Everyone is different and the only thing I've been successful with is keto dieting. I find substitutes for my favorites also. I freaking love chia pudding but to make it keto friendly I use vanilla premier protein shakes as my liquid. I get the added protein but without the carbs of milk and sugar. I also use protein shakes for coffee creamer and to make chai lattes (I use a sugar free concentrate). I use premier protein shakes for all of that but also use isopure zero carb protein powders. I started my journey at 330 pounds and am at about 263 now. I have to get to 220 at a minimum for spine surgery. I don't get a lot of exercise because it causes me a lot of pain and who wants to live off opiod pain meds-not me! I do mild stretching yoga and that's about it. I love swimming also but the pressure being taken off my spine causes me to have no feeling in my legs when I go to get out of the pool. It's weird. Do what works for you. Don't let haters get you down and keep fighting!!

I've been watching you guys since around the end of 2013. But I've never really been the kind of person to leave comments. That being said, I've been meaning to leave a fairly sizeable comment to thank you guys for all of your content for a while now. I started watching your videos while I was at university and suffering terribly from depression and anxiety. Your videos served as an oasis from the struggles of day to day life and, for that, I can't thank you both enough. It's also because of your videos that I can look back on that time with some fondness, as your content, and the k-pop songs that it introduced me to, brightened and added colour to that bleak period in my life. I didn't want to write this on one of your more serious and sombre videos as I didn't want to add to your troubles. Thankfully, this video came along, and with its bright, positive and yet retrospective focus, I felt it was a good opportunity to say congratulations and thank you . Thank you not only for what you have done for me, but the many others you've helped. Thank you for the wonderful relationship you have established and maintained with your audience. And FINALLY; bringing it back to this specific video! Thank you for taking care good care of yourselves. Your good health is not just an important gift to yourself and each other, but also a gift to all of us. I wish you both nothing but the very best and many many years ahead of doing all the things that you love, whether you can continue to share those moments with us or not. Keep up the good work, I'm rooting for you.

I have glaucoma and had to have surgery and found out that I have 10% Vision in one eye and 90% Vision in another eye and right now I am struggling to see. Side note I am using speech to text to type this without it I can't leave a comment because everything looks like smudges. So I understand when you say grieving over your old self because I miss being able to see. I wish my eyes would get better but I have permanent optic nerve damage from the glaucoma and I'm only 35 years old I was diagnosed when I was 16. I was lucky my doctors caught it at a young age or I would be totally blind by now. I encourage everybody to get their peripheral vision checked because glaucoma doesn't just happen to the elderly. I am also struggling to lose weight I was 250 lb a couple of years ago I lost almost 50 lb and even was able to run the world famous Boilermaker Road Race last year and now because of the surgery I'm back at square one and I can't go running and I've gained some weight back because of the recovery. Right now I may not be able to go running but the doctor said I could go for walks and so I go for walks just to help keep myself from getting back to 250. When I could see I used my fitness pal which is a free app. When my acuity improves I will be using MyFitnessPal again. I wish you good luck on your weight loss and your disability I hope you have more good days instead of bad days.

I was a heavy overweight teen, highest weight around 300pounds. Then I startet to calculate calories just like you, eat EVERYTHING but only to a point where I still lose weight and over years I reached my weight (I still have) of 120 pounds. With this story in background I'd like to congratulate you that you're now at this point where you feel better and more energetic, even you go through hard times. You always looked stunning gorgeous, you ARE a stunning gorgeous personality, but I know what you mean about how it feels. I can't get along with low carb and other diets, I'm just too unmotivated to go through and maybe too weak. Calculating is easy^^ So happy this works for you too and I LOVE that you clarified you don't do this for others, only for yourself. Not to fit in a role others push you in, and give a sh*t about all the negative people. Such an inspiration. So many positive words about loving yourself, so I'm sending love from Switzerland (yes, where to good chocolate and cheese is haha) to you all^^/

I signed up for the gym, was eating bettet but I injured my knees and shoulders, apparently my joints get inflammated easily. So it stressed my out, I gave up on the diet and was lying to myself because I would eat a lot when I was out, and pretend to be dieting around my family! This video gave me some hope! Counting calories is a little frustrating to me because I'm hungry all the time but I will look for a doctor and maybe give it a try!

Estoque de Coisas the good thing about calorie counting is that there are loooots of foods that have little calories but make you feel full. My tip is intense flavours, kimchi and gojujang help me a lot cause it curbs that craving for food. Good luck for your journey.

You can do things like yoga to lower strain on your muscles. It'll be slower than hard core workouts, but I lost 20 pounds by doing yoga and counting calories in the span of about a year and a half. Stretching after you're done working out (even if it's yoga) will also help you hurt less the next day, and lower your chances of straining something.

Martina, I've been watching for a few years and don't usually comment but I want to say that you are a real role model for me. Knowing that someone that's so positive, joyful, adventurous, and successful also deals with chronic illness inspires me to try and be more positive about my own chronic illnesses. I tend to be very pessimistic and have a habit of going to the worst case scenario, but remembering that you deal with constant pain, depression, and grief and still manage to travel the world and experience life and live in the moment reminds me not to give up or give in. Thank you for your honesty and authenticity, you are a true positive spirit and you deserve the very best.

I find that it's really important to substitute parts of the food you like rather than just eating something healthy that you hate. I love how you guys handle things like this. There's absolutely zero judgement in it, or dictating how people should be or do weightloss. It's simply a case of "hey, you're awesome. And this is what is working for me now". ❤️❤️

The subbing is a great idea, especially because you’re putting the focus on keeping foods you enjoy rather than depriving yourself of good food. I think a good “starter’s habit” for anyone who wants to eat healthier is to put initial focus on what good foods you will add rather than what you will take away. For example, if I make it my mission to add extra veggies every time I cook, plus to have an assortment of veggies as a snack each day, I’m in the mindset of adding something good rather than subtracting junk foods - yet those good foods I’ve added in leave me with less appetite for the junk.

I've gained so much in two past years because i couldn't care less about myself (i know what i said sounds sad but it was my reality) Right now, I can't play with my niece, just because it hurts my joints. I'm young and i don't want to deal with that kind of pain. My weight has been stable for a month now. I pat myself on the shoulder for that. I didn't lose nor gain any weight. It's progress already! I don't especially love eating, it is more of a task for me. Of course, i had delicious meal. But, when i don't cook (which i didn't do in two years), i don't feel like food is special, even if it's only reheating something. That is exactly the kind of app i needed! Now that i will be aware of my calorie intake and adjust certain things. Eventually, i will exercice and gain muscle mass without feeling bad for the weight. I will be in shape :D

Switched to a whole food plant based diet in February; so no animal products, oil, or refined sugar. Without those things, my intake is not very calorically dense. In the beginning, I was tracking my intake to make sure I was eating enough until I got a feel for it. I've lost almost 15 lbs, I have less pain and stiffness from my arthritis so am able to do more, and my depression has decreased. While this is more of a lifestyle change, and I'm not aiming for a certain weight, it does mean that where I end up will be sustainable. My favorite part is being able to get in and out of bed without all the pain and stiffness, which has been enough to keep me going. Best of wishes on your own journey. Continue to enjoy life as much as possible, and I'll continue to enjoy your videos.

Except I don't do it as often as you, I do the 5:2 fasting, so 5 days out of the week I don't have to calorie count and then 2 days i have to eat under 900 calories. My progress is slow, cause its only 2 days out of the week, but i can see a small change after 3 months :)

Martina you are the epitome of inspirational. I just started a new job and moved to a new city by myself and its been hard for me to adapt to the loneliness as well as the health problems that have been cropping up because I've been comforting myself with food as well. You embody my ideal personality with the way you smile through life and honestly whenever I'm feeling sad or tired, watching your videos makes me feel like I can do anything. Thank you for being amazing and I think you have always looked amazing but I'm happy you feel better!

Superb job Martina! For me a combo of keto and intermittent fasting has been awesomesauce, from 108 kg (~240 lbs) to 75 kg (~165 lbs). Feeling much better, and the extra confidence accompanying the vastly increased attention from women sure doesn't hurt. Most of the weight was lost over a summer full of long walks with audiobooks, but now I'm at the gym three times a week to build more muscle. Basically limit carbs/sugar and usually have 1-3 meals between noon and 8 pm every day. If I have a cheat day I just extend the fasting period a little and it seems to work. Got a fancy new bathroom scale the other day that estimates body-fat percentages so now Project 10-12% (currently 15%) is a go!

This is very useful Martina! I've always been a larger girl and struggled with weight especially when my mum passed away. I've been wanting to lose weight to be healthier because I would be disappointed with myself if I gave myself a preventable disease. I'm going to work hard to lower my risk of breast cancer. You are an inspiration. Keep at it girl!! Love you!

I really like that you mentioned your TDEE, and why it's important. Calorie counting has a bit of a negative connotation I think, but I really think it's the most simple way to lose weight without going on any of these silly fad diets. But where people get it wrong is that they are not accurately recording what their TDEE is. They'll just google how many calories that their gender needs during a day, and go off of that. They don't realize that if they are not doing any strenuous activities, then that number goes down. Recently, I noticed that some jeans I wore last Fall are a bit snug now, which means I gained weight over the winter. Which makes sense cause I did shit all in the winter and didn't work. Now I'm outside more and my job includes physical labour. So I'm not THAT concerned, but I'm still trying to eat better, since I know now that I can work off those calories a bit faster. Also, I'm cheap and don't want to buy new jeans.
@vixxcelacea27786 жыл бұрын
It's also super important when you start plateauing as well. And it explains why people who are quite a bit overweight lose it so easily at first. If you weight more, you burn more, so when you start to lose a lot of weight, you are burning less. Say your initial TDEE or BMR is 1450 and you weigh 160 lb, female, around 5'5' You lose 30 pounds, this means your BMR/TDEE will lower. So you HAVE to reduce the calories more to lose more weight and/or you have to start building muscle, because more muscle means higher TDEE/BMR the more you burn simply existing, because muscle uses more calories to keep the same where as fat is storage. This is why athletes can eat the typical 2000 a day, because their TDEE/BMR is around 1800 and they also burn tons of calories through activity on top of their resting burn rate. A good online test will ask your weight, height, sex, everyday activity. It's not perfect, but it does give you a decent estimate and it will change if your weight is lower. In general, assume you eat more calories than you think. Considering it isn't entirely perfect (the body utilizes calories from different sources for different things. IE even higher calorie healthy food is still better than high calorie junk, though you won't lose anything with either). I always round up when I eat anything. A protein bar 289, 300. Dinner, potatoes, meat, a sauce, definitely 700+. Eat less than 1200, eat fresh foods and get a little bit of exercise a few times a week and nearly everyone under the sun will lose weight barring actual physical barriers, such as thyroid conditions and such. It just sucks that in losing weight your body because it's not optimal, it's just what has worked the past thousands of years, will inevitably lose some muscle too. it's hard to retain muscle mass as it is now when you lose a substantial amount of weight. You can combat this by strength training and eating protein, but working out also will make you feel more hungry and it will be harder to keep to that specific caloric intake you have set. For me for instance, I think doing daily specific muscle exercises (since I have joint and pain issues anyway) combined with a calorie counting diet is best. I'll lose muscle in general, but the areas I work that are weak will be stronger and retain some muscle mass rather than dieting alone.

Thank you so much, Martina. I lost 60 pounds over two years, about four years ago. In the past year-and-a-half, I've gained back about 40 lbs of that. It doesn't feel great. My life is full of a lot of things I can't control and I tend to be pretty broke. That tends to make me feel not great a lot of the time. I enjoy food so much that I use it to reward myself for everything as eating is something I have to do, so I can justify making something comforting, getting a candy bar after work, or baking (which is one of my favorite hobbies) to myself. I know it isn't healthy. This video really inspired me to be better about what I eat. Honestly, thank you so much- I know I'll be able to look back to this video when things get tough to remind me to keep in track.

You do have more energy and it’s a good challenge to take care of ourselves and enjoy a longer life without our bodies failing us so early in life. Fighting! Martina!

Awww love, I have an autoimmune disease so I feel your pain. I’m basically allergic to stress to put it simply (chronic urticaria and angieodema for anyone who is interested) If I get mildly stressed out I will develop itchy welts all over my body that leave huge bruises and there isn’t really a known cure for it yet (just an injection that can alleviate the symptoms I think.) When I start to break out, anything can cause more hives. wearing clothes, being too hot, being too cold, crying, any pressure on my skin... the longest outbreak I’ve ever had was 2 years long. I’m trying really hard to be healthier to prevent any breakouts. So I’m with you on this “healthy body healthy you” journey. But please realize that you have always been stunning and I’ve loved you and Simon since EatYourKimchi! It’s so hard dealing with body image in Asia... my 2 year long hive outbreak was in Japan and I was terrified to go out in public 😅 I’m proud of you and so are all your subscribers! That's awesome that you lost weight and feel better. Going lower calorie tends to lean towards eating more veg and less starch. I did the latter and lost weight slowly too over the past few years. There's also that saying you can't exercise off bad eating habits. People put too much emphasis on going the gym and exercise for weight loss. What we eat makes much more of a difference than how much we exercise, plus we can exercise at home and outdoors for free.
@Tessa_Ru6 жыл бұрын
back2s0ul I feel like that's very true. My doctor actually told me to focus on fixing my diet before changing my exercise level. From my understanding, if you go directly to spending more energy while Also restricting your food intake, you haven't trained your body to not crave carbs/sugar when it wants to rebuild energy. You essentially sabotage yourself haha.

I’ve suffered with bulimia nervosa for about 3 years so my weight has fluctuated MAJORLY over that space of time, lowest being 72 lbs, highest being 250 lbs. I’ve decided to lose weight in the right way- to eat, keep food down, workout, drink my water, sleep regularly and I’ve been losing weight so much quicker than I was while I was restricting and purging everyday. I wouldn’t consider myself ‘recovered’ but I’m 198 lbs rn and I’m 50 lbs down than I was 2 months ago. I wanna get down to 130, and I plan on doing that by the end of Autumn this year and I’m so determined to do that- I love you Martina, this motivated me SO much x

For me, I also have EDS though, I have the Classical type and I also struggle with my weight. But not in the sense of wanting to lose weight but the fact that instead I have a feeding tube! :D So Martina you are most certainly right on that, everybody with EDS has all kinds of body types. It also plays a roll of if the person has any other illnesses that go with it too (like Gastroparesis, or other GI problems, etc.) It all honestly depends. EDS kinda really sucks, but there's not much we can do about it besides keep moving forward and try to have a more positive outlook on things. As cheesy as it sounds, it does help with your mental state. ♡

Keep fighting! Start with what you put in your body. Don't go cold turkey right away. Just incorporate healthier options like fish and chicken instead of red meats and brown rice instead of white and more fruits and veggies. Take advantage of spices to add flavor but not too much salt or sugar. For junk food limit it to once a day then once every two days. Then for exercise try brisk walks for 15 minute then build up to 20 minutes then 30 minutes.

I hate the yoyo-ing. Keeping up with an impressive diet/exercise plan, only to have it be something I couldn't keep up with. As a person with a variety of mental health issues, I often set a bar waaaay too high for myself. I see so many things online saying to build a house, you gotta set down the first brick. The problem is, I don't even have bricks, I'm just mashing sand and hoping it makes something stable. Sometimes it's hard to accept where you actually are, and that it's okay that first you need to find the tools to make your own bricks before you can even think about laying down the first one for your house. For me, this means that I need really small steps, the kind that people think don't make a difference. This includes things like just getting in the water I need with out changing my diet, only eating junk that I make at home, rather than buying from a store. I don't know where you are at personally, but I see so many people who make this big awesome change, but can not keep it, and in my experience, it's because they tried to quickly build a house with out proper bricks in the first place. So they made an impressive pile of sand that just eventually blew away in the wind. All that being said, I wish you the very best of luck on this journey and hope you find whatever works for you and use all the tools you need to get to where you want to go.

Also I would like to add, donèt punish yourself for your failures or if you slip up. We're all human and make mistakes all the time. When my anxiety was at it's worse I wouldn't even get out of bed and just cleaning sent me into panic attacks. I would beat myself up for everything I didn't accomplish that day which just made me feel worse about myself. One day my psychologist told me the same thing you just said and it kinda clicked for me. I needed to build a steady base of self-confidence and so every day I would congratulate myself for having gotten out of bed and put on clothes and then the next day I would do a bit more and I would be proud of that. Some days I failed and didn't do as much as the day before but instead of punishing myself and destroying all the progress I made, I accepted the fact that I was human and imperfect and sometimes I have bad days and that's okay. I worked out of it and now am a lot more a functional person. I still get bad days though and that's okay too.

Thanks for making this Martina! It's so hard to explain to people who don't have chronic pain issues that we're legit not allowed to work out past a certain point, and "just get fit" isn't helpful advice. Last year I lost 30lbs which helped tremendously with my chronic pain. Unfortunately, I've gained 20lbs back over the holidays/birthdays/anniversaries/traveling over the past six months and feel every. single. pound. of it in pain. After watching this, I feel like we have so much in common though, haha. I really hate salads, but like you, for me simple calorie counting using Lose It helped tremulously with my caloric intake, and really low key "exercise" like physical therapy in a heated pool (on land is like torture) and qigong (omg do I love qigong) are amazing for my physical and mental well-being. Congratulations on all of your hard work, Martina! So glad you're feeling better :) I'm hoping to get back on that train/ladder with you real soon.

Heart problems and high cholesterol, etc run in my family, so in college I really got serious about losing some weight and eating better. I lost 15 pounds my freshman year, and after graduating my bachelor's I lost another 25. Now I'm around 170 and my cholesterol levels and BP are better than ever. However, the whole time I've also struggled with body image issues. I'm mostly a silent lurker on your vids, but I gotta say this was strangely eye-opening. I'm like most people, when I picture health food I picture salads, carrot sticks, etc... I can keep it up for a month or two and even feel better physically, but eventually it just feels depressing tossing together another salad while your family is having pizza night lmao. Then I just don't want to even look at a veggie. XD I've been going through a lot of your older vids that I hadn't seen before and I just gotta say you guys are such an inspiration. Even when all you have to keep you going is pure stubbornness you've still come through it, and I have a lot of respect for that.

Exactly! That’s why I’ve been making things like cauliflower crust pizza, cauliflower rice stirfry with tons of veggies, tofu and hot sauce, Mexican night with homemade salsa, guacamole, and ground chicken served in lettuce wraps... I am never going to realistically make it through on carrot sticks since I’m not a rabbit, but I can make meals that are healthy and delicious, and low calorie which means I can eat a lot of it and still lose weight.

And as many other people have mentioned in the comments, "You can't lose weight for other people, you have to do it for yourself." I actually started using the lose it app to log foods that I eat and it was so eye opening to see the foods that I regularly eat and the caloric value they had. I've been using the app for 2 weeks now and I've lost 3lb! I'm definitely going to keep at it but I want to sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so encouraging. Because this really taught me that I can still eat what I want and snack what I want, but I have to think about the impacts that it'll have on my body.

GIRL! I SO RELATE!! I have Lyme disease and a slew of other health problems and I need to keep my weight under 110 or my knee pain starts getting significantly worse. I also have this symptom where I feel heavy like I have weights tied around my legs so physically weighing less does help me to feel lighter and get around a lot better. I’ve found that only eating one meal a day (OMAD) or two meals seems to take care of the problem. I also try to avoid grains when my pain is real bad cuz they make me more inflamed. I really don’t like it when people try to tell me that I’m too thin and I need to gain weight, they just don’t get it that this isn’t about looks or vanity, it’s about functionality and quality of life. Hey, Martina! So glad you're making a positive change for yourself and it's been going well. I've been doing the exact same thing for the past 6 months and have lost 33lbs. I'm 5'7" and weighed well beyond a normal weight for myself and decided to make a change in my diet so that I could lose the weight I wanted and feel better for myself. I ended up doing a very similar thing to you and reduced my calorie intake by substituting high calorie items for lower calorie items and increasing the number of steps I take in a day to increase my activity. I'm not someone who cooks often, so, for myself I knew I needed to be strict during the week and make easy meals that had mainly veggies and protein. Subbing out carbs for veggies and my main dishes for more protein as opposed to items like pizza, pasta, and burritos really allowed me to reduce my intake. Even though I'm very strict during the week I'm not at all strict on the weekends. That's when I usually eat my prized carbs, snacks, etc. I'm so glad that you shared this!

I'm a year late but THANK. YOU. I just got diagnosed with PCOS which explains why losing weight has been so hard, I can't really exercise a lot cause I've had fibromyalgia since I was 11 so exercising hurts so much so losing weight with exercise would take AGES because I have to slowly build up, and recently recovered from binge ED. Dieting never worked because people told me I have to eat 2000 calories even thought I'm only 4'11, and when I say I eat 1500 or less cals they say I should eat more, but now after checking my TDEE I've been eating TOO MUCH to maintain my weight! which explains why I never lost weight even though I apparently ''ate too little'', because I'm short and don't need that much! I'm gonna try going off of my TDEE and hope it works~

I had a feeling that you're EDMS had gotten worse recently and that you were feeling down about it. Last year I was experiencing weird numbness in my arms that went on for months with no improvement, and then I started having numbness in my legs along with stumbling. I would tell my body, "lets walk over here" and then one of my legs would forget it was supposed to be walking and not move when I told it to. The first MRI showed there was damage to my myelin sheath and the most common diagnosis for that is Multiple Sclerosis. The first doctor I saw explained it in a bad way saying that lots of people wind up in wheel chairs within 20 years and I spiralled for a bit. I can really relate to you when you say you got depressed about not being able to do certain things anymore, and that ever present worry about when the next set back will get you and what you will lose. Like you though, my partner was a big strength for me, and when I told him I could wind up in a wheel chair he just said "okay, well we can always get a sex swing!" Luckily for me more tests ruled out the more common and more debilitating autoimmune diseases that affect the myelin sheath, but it's still going to be a life long issue for me, and a bad enough attack could put me in a wheel chair. But I like to imagine that what I have is so mild I won't have to worry about a wheel chair. Thanks for being such a positive role model Martina for hidden diseases!

Lion’s Mane mushroom, Phosphatidylserine, Phosphatidylcholine, C-60 aka carbon 60. I had a scare a couple years ago where my short term memory was greatly impaired and I was getting lost in my own neighborhood. These are some of the supplements I use to optimize my neurological health. Best of luck to you! I think illnesses are the universe’s way of teaching us things that we couldn’t have learned otherwise. I’ve learned so much about health, a lot of our “diseases” are NOT what most Drs think they are. We are unwell because our environment is toxic and unwell. 💚

(in response to people's views on your weight and how you "should" look) But, but I like that you're not skinny and have curves and stuff because finding you made me feel better about myself unexpectedly and uncontrollably putting on weight due to illness because you always look so good and happy and I felt like The Blob and every where else I looked was negative and judgemental and nasty. I didn't care what other people thought, just that I wasn't me any more and unlike going through getting illnesses and conditions and not being able to do the things you always did or being able to live the same way, putting on so much weight so fast took away my clothes on top of everything else, so I couldn't wear old comfort clothes or feel pretty in old cute outfits and forget about getting new ones because shopping and trying on tires you out too much and you end up in pain too and ordering online makes you just want to give up with everywhere having a different take on sizes! I now live in giant geeky men's tshirts. The worst part is I already had a healthy diet and was active so I couldn't increase my activity because I was still in the mindset of being healthy and pushing myself too hard doing daily activities and physio and I couldn't eat healthier because I've always naturally been a 1-2 balanced meals a day kinda gal and less that that would be starvation! Even the doctors couldn't find a way to improve it! And the joke is, without changing a thing, I've lost 11kg since last year. My last medical weigh in at the hospital when I was getting tests, I made the nurse's day with my reaction and it finally proved to others that the weight wasn't because I'm 'lazy' or 'greedy' but because sometimes sh* happens and they should take their nose out of lives that aren't theirs. To be honest I'll be happy if I could just loose the potato face making second chin and the jiggly gut. I've always had rugby player thighs and I'm ok with the hips you can rest a whole shopping cart on, that comes in handy. P.s props for the Mama Ru moment - Work it, girl! 💜

Honestly you're such an inspiration. I always look forward to these videos, regardless of content they always make me feel. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

Thank you for inspiring me to lose weight. My weight has always been moving up and down up and down from school stress and this means a lot. Thank you!

This is exactly what a foodie needs. Everytime I think about diet, I immediately think about all the delicious food I won't be able to eat anymore. And with the way you diet, you just balance it. This is indeed inspirational, not only to people with diseases but also to people who want to lose weight but can't give up food. Thank you so much.

Total Daily Energy Expenditure is slightly different than you explained. It's essentially what your body burns if it did nothing else but exist. Imagine laying in bed all day with no movement and breathing. Most people don't live like that so any additional movement means you actually burn more calories than what is your TDEE. When I first got my TDEE measured, my nutritionist said she recommends that most people, when starting to lost weight, should first start eating at the TDEE level, as more than likely you are currently eating above it. Which was true for me.

Yup totally right! I actually tried to explain it but I ended up rambling so we went with my second more simple take hahahahha but yeah, you’re exactly right. So I also account for days that I do tons of walking or biking and I eat accordingly so that I don’t lose my muscles by not feeding them the correct nutrients. 👍

You are actually wrong.. "what your body burns if it did nothing else but exist" is actually called BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate).. TDEE is the sum of BMR, NEAT = Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis - Aka all your involuntary movements; TEF = thermic effect of food - Energy you spend to "process" the macronutrients you eat; EAT = exercise activity thermogenesis - voluntary exercise.. So basically if you want to lose weight healthy you wanna be below max of 500 Kcal below your TDEE. In any case, She was right in the video.

Thank you Martina for sharing this. I’ve been struggling for a while now and can’t seem to loose the weight. I have Hashimoto and it’s been challenging for me. I’ve downloaded the app and will start using it from tomorrow. I wish you all the success. So happy to hear that you’re feeling better.💖👍 Greetings from Dubai 😘

I'm currently nearly done with college, and in the past couple years I had gained enough weight to max out at 187 lbs. I'm nearly as tall as you Martina, and I've always been a curvy, big bodied girl! I have severe knees problems, so not only did I feel bad about the way I looked but I was making my own injuries harder to deal with. Now I weigh 140lbs, and my knees feel so much better I can walk wherever I need to! I wish you the best in your own journey, however you wish to do it! Believe that you can be your best self and that trying is MORE than half the battle!!!

Hi, You really opened my eyes on losing the weight so far you have. Back in 1996 was told i had chronic fatigue. Up til this past year had very little problems with it. NOT ANYMORE, I'm 5'1 and 230 lbs. and this weight is setting off my bones and pain running like fire threw my body. I got to loose weight years ago i did have the weight lose surgery and lost 80lbs. I had the world in my hands. But, the lap band went wrong to had to be removed and i gained it all back. I'm in so much physical pain. I cry for pain killers. I don't want to this no more, My problem is 2-3 sodas a day( Pepsi) To me it feels like drug, i crave it in my mouth that i have to have it. I do see a counselor now were on my 3 visit soon, and I love it. I know i can do it.But, its so hard.. It helps seeing you post those videos , Thank you Martina...God Bless Jennifer from Michigan

Hey Martina! I’m currently studying abroad in Nagoya Japan and I’ve noticed that since my arrival in August I’ve already lost 20lb. without any diet change, and I was just looking for ways to change by diet to obtain additional weight loss and stubbled upon your video! I have been having some Gastrointestinal problems in the states before I came here that have already improved so much just from eating the foods that Japan has to offer. Even with eating out and eating icecream everyday here I’ve lost a considerable amount for 2 months. I am so inspired by your weight loss journey and I hope your pain can gradually lessen! I love you and your videos! Keep up the good work~
