Desmond's signature tag line: "See you in another life brotha". This is essentially what happened over and over in the series. Every one of them had several "lives". Kate pre Island was a fugitive. On the Island, she led and helped to dig Jack out of the cave it, tracked Ethan which helped save Charlie. She delivered Claire's baby. Back in the world off the Island, Kate was a prisoner, defendant and then a mother and Jack's fiancée. Back on the Island, Kate became Jack's conscience, she found Claire and helped save her. She stopped Smokey as he almost killed Jack before he could put the cork back in the Island. She saved Ben after Sayid shot him. Desmond was a loser and seen as coward before the Island. On the Island, Desmond saved it pressing the button nearly every day for years. He saved Charlies life several times. Off the Island, he becomes a husband and a father. Back on the Island, he becomes the instrument by which to defeat Locke. And then when you get the After-life/Sideways reality in the final season, they really do "see" each other in another life.

There’s a bit of a Mandela Effect with that line though. Desmond only ever says it once, to Locke. Jack is actually the person who says it most. More often than not, Desmond says “see you in another life, yeah?”
