I think problem with Digimon franchise was many Japan-exclusive things (vpets, games, manga). I also thought that Digimon hit bottom after Xros wars because that season seriously change some cruical things in franchise (level systems and evoltions). And, after Tri, Bandai and Toei clearly thought that franchise could survive solely on Adventure (Kizuna, Reboot, The Beginning). Ghost Game was wasted potential and Appmon are still hated by many fans. We also had to wait for years for Digimon Survive. But, okay, let's hope that franchise continue to grow and not to be so dependant of Adventure universe. Also, do you think that Appmon and everything related to them is dead?

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see if the mons from Appmon start popping up more like the mons from Xros Wars have been lately. Hope so at least.

I am glad that I wasn’t the only one who didn’t care for Fusion(I have only seen the dub, so I can’t comment on the original but I heard it is much better then the dub.)At least, Shoutmon, Beezlemon and Nene were pretty cool. I liked Jeremy and Angie as well, but they were heavily underused. Even prior seasons like 02, with their armor and DNA evolutions and Frontier with their spirit evolutions had similar scaling like other seasons.

I think what hurt Digimon, was the marketing, while it had a big push at the start, it slowed down quickly. Fox Kids promoted the anime alot, saw a decent amount of merchandise in stores which got dwarfed by Pokémon merch, and even weirder is the fact that none of the manga were localizated til way later. But by the time Frontier had ended it was in limbo but Savers did get the ball rolling a bit.

I like how they pretty much train themselves while you can get things done during the day. It's a nice touch to the whole real world, and digital world feel. Sometimes, I de-digivolve them.

Actually it’s just as Big if not bigger than Pokemon’s world building if you try to scrutinize everything Digimon has there to offer. And I think some parts are just underutilized they become underrated or a hidden gem.

My head canon is that Ghost Game was meant to be the Tamers reboot. But after the failure of 2021 they retooled it into Ghost game.

That's what I meant by merchandise aimed at nostalgic older fans, I didn't want to talk about upcoming releases too much since I've already done so in previous videos, and this video was mainly focusing on 2011-2015.

Ironically, 2011 to 2012 was when I just really started getting a grasp on the internet and found all the stuff Japan-exclusive stuff and the games I missed, so... at least the first years of that "dark age" didn't feel like that to me... but around the time tri was announced it hit me as well, I didn't have a Playstation so I couldn't fully check out Cybersleuth until years later when it came out for the Switch, only a few bits through Lets Plays, and tri itself being movies, not to mention Adventure which I felt somewhat fed up with at that point, not to mention written as they were, quickly lost my interest, so there was only Applimon, which I enjoyed, but... also felt distinctly seperate from Digimon. All that time I was still at least tangentially keeping up with Digimon, but I definitely felt this "content void", where there was this uncertainty if Digimon was slowly petering out as a franchise and fade away, if the only anime-projects we'd be getting from now on would be movies and nostalgia-baiting... and then came Kizuna, the cardgame and the reboot, as well as the Vital Bracelet, and while things weren't and still aren't great, it still feels like Bandai is wasting a lot of Digimons potential, it's looking up at least and that's where I'd say this "dark age" ended for me.

YEA. It was almost an entire decade before we got anything in Europe, we didn't get any of the DS titles, so when All Star Rumble came out, I pre-ordered it. Game sucks, went into bargain bins weeks after release, but still glad I supported it.

All-Star Rumble was fun and not bad at all. It's just not what people wanted or what the franchise needed. But I played a LOT of All-Star Rumble and claiming that it's bad is dumb. Low-effort for sure, but the combos for each character are fun, managing your MP makes the game more strategic, and a couple of the alternate modes were neat(with the cards and all). There were definitely weird digivolution choices, but that's not a bad thing, Biyomon becoming Examon was pretty cool. And the snippets of story mode were neat to see even if the mode itself was repetitive. Seriously, I will mever forget playing All-Star Rumble with my nieces and nephews. I still prefer the first 2 Rumble Arenas, but All-Star wasnt nearly as bad as its been painted.

it’s really weird how your timeline of digimon falling off the radar matches up with mine i used to think it was nostalgia but i remember i first watched the digimon tamers dub as a “let’s get hype” just before digimon xros wars started and the aesthetic + structure of xros wars made me lose interest until they announced tri and then i started buying random things off japanese auction sites 😭

I disagree I think its a pretty meh time to be a fan, it feels nothing like the ps1 days which were the best time. I like the vpets they are putting out although they hurt my wallet importing most of them because they wont release them in western territories anymore and they are re-releases of old stuff in color instead of new models. The tgc is still not a broken disaster like all tcgs eventually become so thats nice. But thats about it, I dont see how this is such a great time at all for the IP, I guess its not dead which is good. I hated colon, kizuna and tri, they still cant do anime right so I have little hope for a good anime in the future (although I havent watched GhostGame yet.) This might change if they actually announce new good stuff at digicon. But it would still mean we are waiting for months to get them anyways.

That was a rough era too since not all the PS1 games released where I live. Now releases are international more or less. Anyway, any era is better than the dark age.

I think Ghost game killed the momentum, it was really boring and what little plot it has was bad. The next anime needs to hit hard. The last good anime is still Xros wars 10+ years ago.

All-Star Rumble was such a letdown for me, this was the closest thing to a Rumble Arena/Battle Spirit 3. It felt empty, soulless, and lacked substantial content compared to the latter games. Even the roster felt strange, there was still some notable Digimon missing from the past games who weren't even present here. I hope the reception to the game hasn't deterred Bandai Namco enough to stop developing another Digimon fighting game again because aside from the RPGs, fighting/ platform fighting Digimon games have a lot of great potential....maybe a Digimon Racing sequel game too but I think I'm just pushing it at that point lol. And hey, if we can't get a true Rumble Arena or Battle Spirit successor, just put Agumon in Smash already!

I'm here to defend Digimon 2020 I've watched the original series alot but I tried rewatchin it right after watching the reboot and I couldn't it's like the characters become so much more of characters in the reboot and it makes it hard to watch the old one, i much prefer how they changed joe and mimi tai didn't need much changing same the with the rest I still love the original series but the reboot made it look like cheddar whilst the reboot is mature cheese both good one clearly superior
