Would love to see you guys check out Mad Season again. You guys did River of deceit which is the mellowest song on the album. Remember Mad Season consist of Layne Staley from Alice n Chains and Mike McCready guitarist 🎸 from Pearl Jam. I would recommend you guys do Wake up or Long gone day or maybe above. Shoot all of them are good but start with the first song on the album wake up.

Good video! Listen to the live version from Woodstock '94. It's intense. With all of the Purple Rain mentions, if you do a video on that song, I just wanted to let you know that PR is based on Journey's song Faithfully. Prince asked Journey for their blessing, which they excitedly gave. Keep rocking for Vegas!

You know that one song that takes you back like a literal time machine to a particular moment in life and it's just so damn bittersweet because it's a moment in time that no matter how easy it is to drift back to those memories and just engulf your soul in it, the minute you hear that melody... it hurts so damn bad because you know you can never be there, and truly experience that particular time in your life again? This is that one song for me. As much as I love this song, and wanted to see your reaction...I almost try to avoid it like the plague. It pulls at my heart strings every damn time 🥺💗.

I so agree with this. I was 21 when this song came out. My whole life ahead of me. My life is great now, my own family, etc. but that ache you feel of your youth gone forever and those carefree times. You hear those first few notes of this song and it's so powerful, you almost get transported back....but not quite. Being a GenX, I think we really got some of the best decades to grow up in. And the stark difference in this world and that one is almost enough to make you cry.

Cornell was his roommate and Kevin Martin was close with Chris and met him when he was 16 and had just moved to Seattle. So its super sad that Kevin sang the other song, Say Hello 2 Heaven about Chris when Chris died and Chris had wrote it about Andy. What a sad history for that circle :(

Listening to this again nearly 30 years later, with a mind to break it down, reveals an interesting structural choice. Rather than going bridge into a solo back to chorus, they go solo into the bridge. That sets the tone and sets it apart from other hits of the era. The solo here describes the mood rather than being the catharsis. And the passion in his voice during the bridge, nearly wordless, is the emotional outburst. It's not the flashy notes that hook you and set your soaring, it's the passion that reaches down into your guts. There is no let up in the final runs through the chorus. Now he's finding his words, and there are too many. They don't fade it out, they run it too hard and it just collapses under the weight of the emotion. Candlebox was among the groups that came around and seemed like they were trying to make grungy hits. But this song stands the test of time because of that structural choice. It doesn't comes across, 30 years later, as trying to mimic the grunge aesthetic. It just sounds like a genuine feel that fits into the popular mood.

This is such a great album that I still have in my rotation. "Cover Me" is by far my favorite off this album though. There are so many good ones to choose from . BTW (unrelated to the Grunge-ish marathon) you've got to get back to Pantera. (Groove Metal Marathon perhaps?) As far as I am aware, you have only reacted to "Walk", and the drum track for "Suicide Note Pt. II", in memory of the late, great Vinnie Paul. Walk is great, but just the tip of the iceberg regarding the talent and aggression that Pantera brought to metal. Dimebag Darrell Abbott, is one of the greatest metal guitarists of all time, and was taken before his time. There are way too many Pantera staples to mention here. I am sure Patreon poll would get the job done. One of my personal favorite tracks is "By Demons Be Driven". Vulgar Display Of Power FTW!!!!

This song was written about Andrew Wood, former lead singer of the band Mother Love Bone who passed away from a heroin overdose. I believe he died right before their album came out. There’s actually 3 hit songs written about Andrew, this one from Candlebox, Would by Alice In Chains, and Say Hello to Heaven by Temple of the Dog. He was Chris Cornell’s roommate and well known by these other bands. It’s a great song.

The crazy thing to me is that a lot of these artists, even with all the fans and people surrounding them, are still completely alone and are just wanted for what they are and what they have and not who they really are, but you can really tell Andrew was surrounded by people who truly loved him. That's what makes his story so very sad compared to "just another rockstar OD." I put it in parenthesis for the fact that they are all sad, but this one was different and you can really see it.

This album came out the Summer before my senior year in hight school. Dating a girl I thought this song was about a relationship. Left me far behind life moving to fast losing someone that you cared about someone going off to college and your left behind to suffer. Trying to save what you have knowing it’s ending not on your terms. Tortured things are crumbling all around you. Trying to hold on to what you had. Heart broken. It fit for the devastation at the time. Still love this song as well the hole album. I didn’t find out until later in life what it was about. Hey Andy!!! Love crown of thorns makes me cry!

I lost my best friend, Paul, during the summer between 5th and 6th grade going up from Elementary to Middle school. I don't remember specifically if it was the last day we spent together, but I remember us hanging out playing until it ended with a fight and him getting in trouble. He got tonsillitis and went in for a quick surgery which had no complications, but the meds they gave him when he went home that night didn't mix well with the aesthesia still in his blood, and he died in his sleep. This song really takes me right back to the very last time I saw him alive, how it wasn't under the most idyllic circumstances, and how I'd cut off my arms just to give him a hug and tell him I miss him. I love and miss you, bro. If there's ever a Get Out of Heaven For 24 Hours card and you can cash it in, visit me anytime after you visit your family and your little bro. I helped him grow up and I think you'd be proud of the man he is today. Just, rain on me once in a while man. Or give me 2 seconds of sun if it's already raining. Or blow a little breeze out of nowhere on a hot and still summer day. I'll know, man.

This song was written about Andrew (Andy) Wood by the lead singer. Their band was recording at the same place Mother Love Bone, Andrew Wood’s band, had made all their albums which helped influence the idea behind the song. The original lyrics were “Now Andy” but were eventually changed to “Now Maybe”. The song “Say Hello to Heaven” was written about Andrew Wood as well!
