@Erickson1971Ай бұрын
the meaning of Stinkfist by Tool: In one way or another, it's about desensitization. It uses the sexual act of “fisting” as a metaphor, “turn around and take my hand”… “finger/elbow/shoulder deep in the borderline”… “this may hurt a little but it's something you'll get used to”. So to answer your question, no your dirty mind wasn’t playing tricks on you!! 🤭

Yep being desensitized and as a result people will tend to push the boundaries in order to feel because it's "not enough" and his wants transcended into a need like a luxury turning into a necessity (to breathe/feel/know I'm alive) as the chorus suggests. Great reaction, laughed out loud with the "Borderline of what?" So funny! 😂

I think Tool came up with the ideas for the videos. As in they made their own - animations or clay animations included. (Or maybe it's CGI). From what I recall they were involved with not just the musical, but also the visual side of videos and performances. It's part of what made so many fans fanatical about them. They attended to every detail.

The idea for the video and art is from the band's guitarist, Adam Jones. Before playing tool he worked doing special effects in movies like "alien" and "terminator". The idea of the lyrics is about unsatisfied desire and constant searching. Lack, desire, topics addressed in depth by Lacan.

Lovely reaction, Biss. I appreciate you coming back to TOOL. The lyrics definitely have a sexual nature to them, but in a metaphorical way to illustrate how many people become jaded and numb throughout life. They will then thrill seek in various ways to "feel alive." Holding on to curiosity and wonderment as you get on in life is a noble goal that will imbue some splendor and joy. "The world is awful and everybody sucks." is the mantra of the old man yelling at kids to stay off his lawn. My view anyway. 🤙

Maynard is talking about the various stages of "fisting" (hence, the moniker: "Stinkfist") but it's merely to serve as a very powerful, very graphic, metaphor to show what is happening to us as we engage in constant overstimulation. You got the meaning; you just got confused because the dialectical imagery was to mostly serve as a metaphor. Well, done! 👍👍
