Just so the lore is clear, Mohn is an amnesiac, he thinks he’s the bean man as much as you do, he doesn’t even know he’s abandoned an entire family. So no he can’t just come back and fix the issues, he doesn’t even have any idea what those issues are. And since Lusamine never tells you her husband’s name, you as a character never actually figure it out.

Ultra Sun and Moon post game after you do something (a tournament maybe?) you can go to the Aether Foundation and Mohn and Lusamine along with Gladion and Lilly all meet. He congratulates Lusamine on making a place for pokemon and says how he's done the same on his island. He then walks away and when Lilly and Gladion blow a gasket at Lusamine letting him leave she tells them he clearly has fully lost his memory and for his health it's best he gets to live this new life and that she's content with knowing he is doing all right and is still alive and well.

I mean... "you as a character never actually figure out"... have to be pretty dumb considering how much Gladion looks like him, but I suppose your character is 11. Moment I saw him I was ready to call up Lusamine and say "HEY YO I FOUND YOUR HUSBAND! HE'S RIGHT OVER HERE, NO NEED TO GO INTO AN OFFBRAND ANIME AND TURN INTO A TENTACLE MONSTER!" Plus seems a lot of people missed out on USUM thinking it more of the same. You do get closure, he does come back and you do know it IS bean man. I forget how it triggers exactly, something about beating Gladion in the elite 4, when you get to the "champion" fight, random opponents can show up to challenge you for your title. Gladion, Hau, Ryuki are a few, if you beat Gladion I believe you have to wait like a month (not sure if speeding up the 3ds clock messes with this or not) and he shows up. Still amnesiac, and Lusamine lets him go. That's the funny thing about parallel and multiverse timelines, 1 key difference can make a world of changes. In SM she's batshit crazy, chaotic evil, tentacle monster. Then ends up in a coma, to which Lily must leave with her comatose mother, exploring Kanto/Johto to explore the world and try to help her mom. Meanwhile in USUM Gladion leaves to train in Kanto/Johto. Lusamine was I'd say a lawful good type of villain, ya know whenever an angel is depicted as an antagonist. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, sacrifice of the few etc. Any means necessary so she doesn't lose what she already has, but in turn that is what pushes Lillie and Gladion away just as much as if she had intentionally done so like in SM, desperate to find that which is missing. She doesn't end up in a coma, mends her relationship with her family, even more so after Rainbow Rocket's invasion, which in turn is what allows her to see her husband again. Even if he still ends up leaving them being amnesiac still, knowing he's alive is all she needed, closure, so she can 100% move forward. A key difference to him coming back, whether she was bat shit psycho, ending up in a coma, so he doesn't find out news on Aether Paradise, or fixes her ways, creates a true haven for Pokemon, which draws in his curiosity to this haven. So yeah, you as a character do figure it out... if you chose the right timeline, and right Lusamine to follow.

⁠@@Surkk2960In the anime Mohn had a Shiny Nihilego who he had mistaken for Lillie, cuz he still lost all his memories. That Nihilego would try to hide any photo’s Mohn had of his actual family, cuz it was afraid Mohn would leave it alone. This had been going on for years at this point. But eventually Lusamine and the 2 kids (as well as Ash and others), ended up visiting the mountain Mohn was staying by sheer coincidence. And after some time Mohn eventually managed to have all his memories return to him. And the Nihilego that was with him got adopted into the family as well. As for the games however, Mohn never seems to have his memories come back. He’s just stuck on Bean Island by himself. It may be a peaceful life but.. well, his family will never have him back

Abilities were added to the game in Gen 3, but in Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red and Leaf Green each Ability could only have an in-battle effect OR an out-of-battle effect. It wasn't until Emerald Version that a single Ability could have both an in-battle function and an out-of-battle function. Hyper Cutter, an Ability that made pokémon immune to having their Attack stat lowered, also became able to increase Cut's grass-clearing radius... and then Gen 4 came around and removed Cut's ability to remove tall grass, and it never returned.

5:20 if people play USUM rather than SM you actually have a mini story giving you this closure. Which is fitting honestly when you think about it. Lusamine gets so broken she becomes just this chaotic evil tentacle monster, then ends up in a coma. Meanwhile in USUM, she's more lawful good, makes amends, apologizes for her misdeeds, that the sacrifice of the few does not out weigh the many, she needed to be a good mom not try to chase something she may or may never find, nor make amends for it by saving the world from Ultra Necrozma eating the sun. Thus I think like 1 month in game, maybe you have to beat Gladion in the elite 4 i don't remember the exact details... but he eventually finds his way home. She just had to be patient and not go crazy, which she semi does in USUM, but does go full on crazy so he never returns in SM. Parallel Timelines man, and why USUM is just as important as SM.

9:45 this is actually a weird paradox of pokemon biology. Because many different pokemon can breed and produce fertile offspring that means all pokemon in its egg groups are the same species. So by technicality. Gardevoir, lucario, Beeheyem, lopunny, conkeldur, and literally every pokemon in the human-like egg group beling to the same species. But thats a whole can of worms that i dont want to un-simplify right now. The only saving grace is we don't know what egg group humans belong too. But they do belong to one. Also meaning humans hatch from eggs and humans could birth non-human pokemon.
