You can completely cheese his last phase by abusing invincibility after getting hit so you can land right next to his eye before it opens. Then you just change to missiles, wait for the eye to open, tap Z repeatedly and GG you get a disgusting victory because of the non existant amount of effort.

Its just a thing of jump, shoot, evade.... then when you fight ballos you will die.... a lot. But then you just have to learn his patterns and its easy. If you made it to hell, then you can do it.

Honestly, I can't thank DM Dokuro (composer of Terraria's Calamity Mod OST) enough for introducing me to this game. I listened to his track, Scourge of the Universe, learned it was a remake of a remix of Last Battle, so instead of listening to that remix I listened to the original. This exact video. I thought: "Hot damn, this game looks and sounds amazing, I should check it out!" The rest, as they say, is history.

The fight with the doctor is the most satisfying thing I've ever accomplished in a video game. The build up and the feelings that surround the fight are just too immense. I always associate this song with the doctor and not ballos for this reason. It's a perfect mix of heroic and vengeful. That one note at 0:42 sounds like a battle cry. This song is just perfect.

Sacred grounds is really hard, worse than Ballos' himself. So hard to arrive at his room with sufficient amount of HP. And, this sound is just awesome. Don't have anything more to say, just listen it while battling Undead Core and Ballos' final form.

I know it's 7 years after the fact but you can abuse Bute damage to get through the RNG hallway with at least a little bit of health, then keep loading between RNG hallway and the next room collecting the hearts that appear there over and over to farm back to full health. Then during Heavy Press you can farm the infinite Bute spawns before dropping down to Ballos.

People always associate this theme with Ballos, but I've always thought of the Undead Core when listening to this. I always felt the Ballos battle had almost no build-up, so I barely felt emotion other than frustration when I died. The Undead Core (though an easy boss) gave me the feeling of "I'm finally going to pummel that Doctor guy I've been taught to hate throughout the game and ruin his plan" whereas Ballos made me feel like "Oh another boss? Cool." Does anybody else agree???

But literally going through hell to save Curly, then seeing this fucker, getting my ass whooped then *finally* overcoming him really cemented him in my mind. Any feelings I got from beating him had very little to do with the story but with the challenge associated with the gameplay. Cause like you implied, Ballos just kinda shows up and says some crap and you kill him, and then his sister is like: "Yo remember that _one _*_missable_* conversation we had like halfway through the game? You know, I mention my brother and like a war or something? Yeah that was him and he behind all this... Alright this island is collapsing, kthxbai."

You went to hell looking for curly, accedentally ran into a ancient shrine that was inhabited by fallen angels then in the middle of it was a demon looking thing that kept you from escaping. Ya no build up, Doctor had a bigger impact on the story but I personally believe ballos was added as more of a easter egg than an actual important story ark.

Imagine this, you're playing Cave Story for one of the first times. Your oldest brother, who's played the game for years, guides you on how to get the best ending. You get to the balcony. You fight misery and the doctor. You get to the last boss. You see the undead core, possessed misery, and possessed sue. All you can do is drop your jaw and say OH MY GOD. Yep, this is me. You're probably wondering how I got into this situation.

I remember the first time I played Cave Story, and this music played after the Doctor took over the Core AND Misery AND Sue. My only thought: HOLY SHIT! WHAT THE HELL NOW? Seriously though, this is one of the greatest final boss themes of all time, it's up there with Marx's theme and Yoko Shimomura's stuff.

This game is a couple days older than me, I'm on my way to defeat Ballos, wish me luck! Edit 1: HOLY SHIT, HELL IS HORRIBLE, HEAVY PRESS MAKES ME WANT TO PUKE, AND I HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN BALLOS YET. Edit 2: I died at Ballos' final phase, but it's alright. I'm starting to get better at killing these pesky angels. Edit 3: Ballos himself is easy, but it becomes problematic with Heavy Press, the Butes, Deletes, Mesas, etc... And without any nearby checkpoint. Also, I don't have my life pot anymore, I wasted it on the Undead Core. But I'm still going in for the kill! Edit 4: I WON! But somehow, I don't think it's over. The doctor, in immesurable pain after his defeat as the Undead Core, is still alive. He cannot control Misery or Balrog anymore, but he's still powerful enough to make the Seal Chamber crumble on itself... But oh well, he's not going far without any powerful corpses to possess, so I still won! I kinda feel sorry for Ballos though... He's been locked-up for being a good person, his own magic made him kill his wife and kids, and he looks like a red-eyed turd, that's tough. Cave Story just became my third favorite game, my second being Hollow Knight, and my first being Terraria.

In my opinion, he is the easiest of the final stretch. As soon as you kill Misery, the fight is as good as over. Sue is very little truble on her own, and then you have the Core itself, which is not hard at all without Misery

My strat for undead core: Step 1: SAVE HEALTH ON THE FIRST TWO BATTLES. Get gud, they're really not that hard if you're used to them. Step 2: Spam blade on Sue and Misery as soon as you can. Even if you have the spur, the Blade is still the highest dps weapon when spammed at point blank. They don't have contact damage unless Sue is attacking, so just walk into them and spam lvl 2 blade, and it completely destroys them. Step 3: Once Sue and Misery are dead, hop up on the floating core platforms and start firing MAX lvl charge shots from the Spur into the Core's face. Step 4: Always remember that once it's health is low enough, it changes into it's final form, and shoots out 3 unbreakable projectiles that must clear the area before the Spur can be used properly. If it's health is low, and it hides it's weak point early, it's going to change.

I remember I tried beating Ballos many times, even I left him with one hp in the final form, but I didnt give up and when I beated him I felt really excited. Great game one of my favorites, and the true final is amazing!!!
