As many will know, I am a big fan of the Lotus Evora. I have driven almost every variant, but one I haven't until now experienced is the final Evora - the GT410 Sport. Replacing both the 400 and 410, the GT410 Sport took styling inspiration from the limited edition GT430 and looks like it might just be the final Lotus of its era. But just how good is it, with prices approaching £100,000 and the new Porsche 992 on the scene?

I love my US version 410GP - the handling , sublime; the sound, intoxicating; the look, unique; the acceleration, phenomenal; the JP homage livery, gorgeous; and the experience, fantastic. Only negative is rear quarter visibility. I’ve owned a GT 3, GT 4, and a series of Z4’s - while those are great cars, the beemer just isn’t up to snuff on the track and the Porsches are almost too perfect - almost disconnected. The Lotus driving experience is for true drivers - those that turn off the computerized nannies and let the car and the driver do what they are supposed to do. If you are a driver, get a Lotus.

Awesome comment! I was just wondering, how would you compare specifically the gt4 and Evora GT you had in terms of fun on road? Thanks!
@jeffreycarr835
@jeffreycarr835 3 жыл бұрын
@@tommymician121 - the GT3 was a better car than it’s driver. The GT4 is perhaps the best overall sports car I’ve ever driven. Comfortable and incredibly well behaved. Fit & finish superb. Reliability unquestioned. Drive it to the track in comfort, drive it on the track unrelentingly, drive it home again in comfort. It never complains. It just performs. When I sold both Porsches I actually made money - needless to say, that doesn’t normally happen. The Lotus, however, is more visceral, more of connection between driver and road. It certainly is harder to enter & exit, but once in, it’s pretty comfortable. On the road, other than visibility and a poor sound system, it’s a joy to drive. On the track, it is sublime. It is more unique and in a world full of Porsches, that to me is special. I stand by the statement above - if you’re a true driver, get the Lotus.

Ha, the way you talk about the Evora is the same way i talk about my Renault Alpine GTA V6 Turbo. Ok it has modern uprated shocks / springs and some huge brakes. Plus a few engine upgrades. But the way the car talks to you when your driving it hard and pushing on literally makes you tingle. Yes its a 33yr old Renault. But its bloody good, and something very special.

I sold my mint evora S (absolutely fully spec'd) and just can't find anything to replace it. The 400/410 are 60-80 used though and that's a lot of wonga over an S even though i'd really like one. In 3 years and 25k miles though, it didn't lose a penny in value (sold it private for what I paid at the main dealer) and cost me NOTHING in repairs. There just aren't any other cars that do that- if there are, let me know!

I had a 2013 Evora NA and currently a 2017 Evora 400 (manual)...GREAT cars, better looking than lots of Exotics. Unique since in the states there are only about 300 units (2017-2018)... In the US Lotus adds a 3rd cat because Liberal CA and NY State require that. .I removed the 3rd cat and installed a straight pipe so it would sound like the European spec. I was thinking to sell it so I can get the new mid-engine Corvette BUT I might just keep it.

Totally agree. I winced at the price of the GT410 sport but when I drove it, it sold itself to me. The best handling /steering car for british roads I've found. Hit a bad bump mid curve and the suspension just soaks it up -it doesn't jar or lose its line much (unlike the new 911) . And on a long drive at speed with the car in stealth mode its not so noisy as the 911 either so another plus. Stereo def. needs better speakers...

Having owned a Swift Sport for a year, I'm pretty sure you haven't had a flavour of this 😉. The two have very little in common, other than the number of wheels. The Swift is a charming and capable 'warm' hatch, and very good value for what you get... but trust me, they really do not compare in any way, shape or form to any Lotus. I wish they did, because then I might have kept mine and sold one of my other cars instead.

I love the look of the Evora and the only driving of one I've done is on a sim with a wheel. If it's as good in R/L then it's a fantastic car but it is just too expensive ! I think the new Vette C8 coming in at its price point will push Lotus to either up there game further or become more competitively priced.Whilst the US motors have never really taken in the UK market if this is as good as claimed I think it stands a chance.
@moimoi4725

Maybe, but Lotus is a small production car company. Lotus Evora 400 in the US from 2017 -2018 only 300 units. 2020 Lotus Evora GT in the US will be no more than 180 units. C8 will be a dime a dozen, great car though.

I’ve been looking at the Evora. Recently saw an attractively price Evora 400. On paper, there isn’t much difference between the 400 and the GT. The horsepower increase and weight reduction of the GT are pretty negligible. HOWEVER...I wonder how much Lotus addressed lingering issues with the 400 in the GT, such as using better Sparco seats. You mentioned in this video that you would get a later model Evora like the 410 Sport if you went back to Lotus. Is this the reason? Did they really sort out the 400 with the 410????

Wouldn't disagree with what you say, but personally feel the 400 is perhaps the more rounded car. I found the 410 just a tad too stiff and a bit too nervous on really broken surfaces. And rear visibility is just dire. In the end it was a close call for me between a second-hand (manual) 400 and the Alpine A110. I chose the Alpine because of it being lighter on it's feet and just as engaging, but in a different way. I can see many would take the opposite view, the Evora has better steering and a much better sound track. For me, although I agree the Evora is now very expensive, price didn't really come into it - but it might have done with the OH had my preference been different.

747 Gazm Sorry? 30k is a huge amount of money for a 2 seater non practical sports car that cannot be used as an everyday car? I know I’ve owned 9! Check my channel out, I’ve also owned an Evora and they aren’t worth more than 60-70k period. Bouncing these numbers around is ridiculous as 70k is in most cases more than double the average salary. Let’s be sensible. The sort of cars you can buy on PCP deals at that level are light years away from what Lotus produce. I’m a Lotus nut so it pains me to say this.....
@Pan.martin
@Pan.martin 4 жыл бұрын
I think they have to. First they have limits for production car, Evora ends completely april 2020, then only Elise and Exige and car like this will never ever ever be produced in future again. Future Lotus range would be 75% electric only, so this is really your lst chance to have car like this where you can freely open exhaust valve, don’t have colision monitor etc etc. Despite the fact it’s old fashion and have terrible old interior etc. in therm of driving and simplicity, you simply can’t buy other car like this now. So they have no reason to hold the price down. And things like Atom isn’t competitor for this cars.
@1970boggy
@1970boggy 4 жыл бұрын
Martin Vajdik Great points however the Cayman GT4 is exactly like it only better made. I’ve owned both the Cayman S and an Evora and I’m afraid to say the Porsche is a way better car. This can and should be resolved. Improve the interior and reduce the weight! DROP THE PRICE! They simply don’t need to end production? That’s utterly stupid.
@Pan.martin
@Pan.martin 4 жыл бұрын
Mr Boggy they have to, because of CO2, safety and other limits. In Czech for example now is impossible to get on plate even new GT430. My dealer now bring one of the last and they have to find the one in EU already and make pretty long proces to get the licence plate for car. 2020 that is gonna be the fucked up date for many fun cars. Btw I had Boxster S 2006 before and yes, in every aspect is similary good car, but the 718 is more GT fancy car then sportscar. I would never change my 400 for any Porsche, maybe GT3. But it’s customers option. And you are right, now pricing is ludacris, I bought my in 2017 and at that time it was fuc*in bergain!!!! There was literally zero car in same price range that would be even close to 400 in there of everyday and track use and service/parts pricing, and price sustainability. Zero 🙌🏻

I’m saving for either an Evora 400 or a 911 and I think I’ll end up getting a 911 for the simple reason that Lotus overprice their cars. For the overall package the 911 is better quality and better value for money. If the Evora was 10-15k cheaper it would be at the right price point and I would pick the Evora having previously owned a lotus. It’s a shame but I think their pricing is all wrong and they are losing sales because of it.

Brilliant video, and I've just bought one! British racing green with bronze wheels, LeglessLotus on Instagram if anyone is interested. Anyway, some thoughts. I guess price is always the first thing on peoples minds. My spec ended up with a list price of £104,000. A lot of money. Indeed, far too much money. However, I paid no VAT, and in addition to the 0% 50/50 finance it owes me something in the region of £45,000. At that price, it becomes a very, very different prospect. Add in to that the decent residuals and after two years the ownership costs are actually pretty low. Sure, this situation is probably specific to me (no VAT, happy with finance) but still, it means the opportunity was open to me whereas it might not have been had I paid full price. The driving experience is glorious. I had to go for the auto unfortunately, but in Race Mode it does a really decent job of keeping the engine in the powerband. The sound is epic too, as everyone can hear from this video, although I feel like maybe you're always expecting another 500rpm or so. A lot has been written about Lotus suspension, and it's all true. The first time I was ever even in a Lotus was when I drove my car out the showroom, and my word, the suspension is just witchcraft. The roughest of roads get smoothed out, and yet it's never too soft or wallowy. I really cannot imagine suspension being any better in this class of car. The steering and feedback I find fantastic too, as well as the neutral balance of the car, I think you need to really ignore what the car is *clearly* telling you to wind up in the hedge. I guess I can't add much to this review when it comes to talking about the way it drives, it really is up there with the very very best. Problem is, even if I didn't pay this amount, you can't get the fact it's a £100k car out of your head. The interior isn't good enough, and some things in the process of ordering are irritating. I can get the service hatch, roof and vanity panel painted, but not the rear deck? What? I'm not a fan of exposed carbon, and that irritated me. Seats are good, dash is poor. All the buttons and switchgear feel a little mushy to me. It's not the best thought out interior either, the luggage space (with the rear seat delete) makes it a brilliant GT, but there's nowhere handy to put a can of coke or rest your elbow. It seems minor on a sports car, but if you actually use the car and drive any distance in it it does get annoying. Also, and I didn't think I'd ever say this about my car, but it's too loud. Way too loud. It sounds good, but track day issues aside I just feel a little antisocial sometimes when driving with the exhaust valves open. Minor point, I'll get a 2bular at some point. At the end of the day, while I'm incredibly happy with my car, you'd have to REALLY love the brand to spend £90k+ on one of these. As you said, second hand they are brilliant cars (helped my good residuals) and at the £60-70k price bracket they are best in class. Fingers crossed Geeley ownership allows Lotus to bring costs down a bit, or bring the interior quality up.
