SelectAire conditioner and Manual Trans w/power windows--and that Style-Tone paint job! Very unusual combination. Having owned one of these, I have to say I love the loose rattle when you closed that passenger door--they all do that! And the Crestmark Body was a reaction to GM's "Body By Fisher".

To these eyes this Ford is as much a piece of rolling art as it is a car. And what a car. In today's dollars this machine would cost a fortune to make with all the really top quality trim and options. And yes, "unmistakable" paint scheme might not be for everyone but I love it. Real show piece with all the right stuff. Bravo Mr. Owner. And thanks Lou for finding another real gem.

I'm not a ford man but I do like this one. Mostly because of the awesome restoration. You don't see that quality of work everyday. You have to do and go back and redo some area's to get them 100%. If there is a flaw on this one the camera missed it. I have a couple interesting stories about the 56 Starliner. (I think that's what they called the hardtop version of this car with the glass in the roof). Back in the late 60's a local guy had drove one for years and wore it out. Instead of fixing it he had a backhoe bury it. He said he didn't want anyone else to have it. More recently a friend of mine has been working on sitting one on a crown vic frame. He is using everything including as much as possible of the interior. All is left inside is the headliner, package tray and the carpet. The body is to the point of trimming in the paint. Needless to say he is quite happy and excited to have made it to the final stages of his creation. I think he said that he has had the body on and off the frame seven times to get it perfect. He wants to drive it across country on whatever is left of Rt 66 hopefully next summer. Thanks Lou for showing us this beauty.

Black and coral! The most colorful ride under the sun, and this was America's most popular convertible at the time! The design really does set this combination off perfectly, and it was truly a designer's era in '56. GM had Harley Earl, Chrysler had Virgil Exner, AMC had Edmund Anderson, and at Ford, George Walker was a good match for all of them. Can this guy pick 'em or what! Thanks for another fun ride, Lou!

That color combo does it for me on this car! You don't see these kinds of colors on cars anymore. That's another thing when comes to cars from this era besides the designs, but the wonder and amazing pastel colors they used, the reds, teal greens, creams, pinks and honey yellow! They helped to make these cars pop! Great video Lou!

Thanks Mr Nagel for another great car. It seems before 1955 to get a high trimmed/optioned car you had to move up from Ford, Chevy and Plymouth. It became obvious in 1955 that the low priced three with an optioned top of the line model could be as nice if not better than many of the mid ranged cars. You have to give FoMoCo credit in the 1950's for giving an extra effort on their cars with the 54-56 Skyliners/Sun Valleys, 57-59 Skyliners, the 57-58 Turnpike Cruisers, the evolving 55-60 T-Birds and even giving a unique "Sunliner" name for the convertibles. 1956 Fairlane's are great from any angle and this cars colors even enhance that. I noticed a green 56 Mercury Montclair in the video that I hope is one of your future cars to review. Better yet if it is ok with Mr Nagel, it would be great to do an episode just scanning all of his car collection together with a little more detail from Mr Nagel on the when and whys of his collection. Thanks again Lou.

As I expected with Ken, an impeccable example of a classic '50's car. The factory AC is very rare on a convertible in '56. I always was torn between the '55 and '56. The '56 is showier, but I love the '55's unique dash and the round front directional pods. By the way Lou, you're correct to assume the exhausts ports were not being used. Because they made the chrome so dirty, many people had the exhaust exit from below. Also, "3-on-the tree" was still going strong till about the mid-'60's, particularly with older drivers on lower-line models with sixes.

Our house in the 1960s had a tiled breakfast nook with the same coral and black color scheme as this convertible. Nice combination. Regarding 3 on the tree shifters, dad was issued a 1967 Chevy Biscayne equipped with a 6 cyl. and 3 on the tree as his work car for the Nebraska Roads Department. I think you could still also get them as standard equipment on certain pickup trucks up to around 1980 or so.

Excellent video, gorgeous super rare , loaded car! No mention of Power steering, power windows, power seat, but NO power brakes! Would have liked to have heard less about the outside mirror and spotlight, and way more about the factory air conditioning, how it worked, where it blew from, how the early technology worked, (factory A/C just new for Ford in ‘55) how well it cooled on a convertible back then, and which was SO extremely rare at the time, especially on a Ford, then even more rarer on a Convertible. Definitely a missed opportunity there, but loved this beautiful Ken Nagle car, the rarity of this model and color! Thanks Lou! Hope to see more very early, rare factory air cars in future!

@@Johnnycdrums oh ya the 332 was an auto so i had to weld the clutch bracket on the frame and just swap in the under dash stuff .. all worked out . even the drive shaft fit perfect .. the 4 speed trans was the b.w. t-10 ford used before the ford trans .. the dual 4 air filter cleared the hood , i had to use the 332 ex manfolds , way smaller them the big 427 cast headers .but i had no idea if the 352 ones were any larger inside . .but the frame on the 59 was to narrow compared to the 64 .. i swapped the alt for the 59 gen .. and the fuel pump for the vac wipers .. everything just swapped over perfect.. throttle linkage lined up .. top hose angle , took 2 1/2 days out and in .. stock gears held it back 2.92 or 3.10 .. so i later did a 4.11 swap .. but still the 59 rag top was way to heavy .. but hell what did i know . young and dumb .. on the dual holly 4's i used screws in the linkage to make the useless vac secondary into everything opened at once .. was going to dump it into my 67 mustang 390 gt . but never got around to it .. life moves on and vietnam called then the wife and then all the no fun stuff ..

Beautiful restoration on this Ford. The color combination is very cool and I love the black and white interior with the coral and black exterior.I like the speaker grill detailing on the back seat as well, The cat looks flawless; interior, exterior, trunk, and engine. The body gaps look perfect. Again, beautiful car!

Beautiful unique car. I’m 67 and I remember my friend and I are used to go around looking at cars in the street when we were kids. I remember seeing one like that that color that model it was different even back in 63. It sure brought back old memories. Do you know that was a seven-year-old car back then around this area Chicago it was considered very old. That’s what people would trade your cars in 34 years because they started to rust out the engines burned oil at around 65,000

Good Lordy, how many names can 1 car have? Fairlaine, Sunliner, Crestview, Thunderbird. I get the Thunderbird edition, but this wasn't a hot rod in the day. Beautiful Ken and best use of conti kit with integration with tail lights. Did they all come with the kit, the gas cap looks too plain?

Hi Pat, Not sure if the kit came with the car, however if Ken has it on the car, I would guess the factory could add it. Lou

Beautiful car. I just got done watching this and the 1963 Buick Wildcat 4-spd. I always enjoy your stories and I'm subscribed. I have a suggestion. (or a request, take your pick, lol). I love how these cars sound when they're accelerating and running through the gears. Induction, carburetor, exhaust, and gear whine sounds are music to my ears and sound nothing like today's cars. So can you please do me a favor and don't talk during these all too brief moments...? 😊

Very nice Sunliner 👏👏👏always loved the 3 on the tree, had a few of them myself and actually learned to drive them first, about that style of shifting I believe they still had them into the early '80s my buddy had a new GMC pickup that had the 3 on the tree and at the time of the locking steering wheel you had to put the shifter in reverse to lock the column, any hoo great video thanks for sharing and as always you know "Howdy from Texas "!!

I was born in ‘56, my father also bought a new ‘56 Ford the same year, not a Fairlane or a Sunliner but a 4 door Custom...Customliner? The storey of this car goes like this: my mother never saw the car until he brought it home. Which was typical for him to do for the rest of his life, buying cars new or used and not telling my mother until he brought it home. She refused to ride in that 56 Ford or drive it. Reason, it was two tone, GREEN AND YELLOW! She found it disgusting and he immediately had to have it repainted keeping the green and having the yellow painted a different shade of green. He always said he thought it looked so sharp in green and yellow and he never liked the new two tone green. That car also moved us while towing a trailer with household belongings from Canada to south Florida and then back to Canada again towing the same enclosed box trailer. He sold it in 1963 after buying a used ‘56 Buick Special. Cheers Lew 🍻🥂🇨🇦🇺🇸 Correction, a ‘58 Buick Special not a ‘56.
