Whoa I am first to this beast? Wow!! Edit: Carrol Shelby was the man. He took already a cool car like the AC Ace and rebuild it into the Shelby Cobra. Then he takes a Mustang and builds this - one of the most recognizable cars in the world!! GT500KR...King of the Road and King Cobra 🐍 - you won't mistake it for any other car. Lou loves blue cars, but I am all about red, so this just looks as perfect as perfect can be 👌. So many snake logos and even more horses under the hood. This car doesn't hide what it is and commands respect just by standing somewhere. This is the kinda car you show to people, when someone says "Modern cars are better." Maybe they are, but this thing right here has a soul 🌠 Before you even open the garage door, you get weak in the knees, you get goose skin and your puls gets quicker. It happens to me with my '72 Demon 340 and now imagine owning Shelby GT500KR Convertible...in Candyapple red. Dream on wheels 😍, just perfection Lou 😀

I always pay attention to how easily a cars engine starts and how it sounds as the engine is running at Idle and driving along. The Fuel is not the same as it was back then and there is no Lead in the fuel today to foul the sparkplugs. The Alcohol in todays Fuel really messes up a Carb or Fuel Injection. This car started like it had Electronic Fuel Injection and it didn't miss a beat! I understand why this car is worth more because of the rarity of having A/C in a Convertible back then or even a closed car back then for that matter. That being said, I think that there are those of us out here, that if given a choice and all things being equal, would prefer a car without A/C. Thank-you once again Lou! P.S. During WW2, the US had higher Octane Fuel and we didn't have to lower the Compression Ratio on our Airplane Engines. Inclosing I go back to your Video a few months back Lou, of Judy explaining why Her 1966 Hemi Engine sounds and is correct in it's sound, because she fills the Fuel Tank with 110 Octane Racing Fuel with Lead in it. That was another informative Video that you also did Lou! P.S.S. Perhaps Ken could fill up the fuel tank in The Shelby with 110 Octane Racing Fuel at sometime in the future and let You do another video Lou???
@loucostabile3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, I'm hoping Ken will fill it with 110 Octane and pass me the keys :-) Lou

I bought an identical car to this one in 1978 for $2500. Although the body was in decent condition, the car had a rough life since it was bought new. The 428 engine was tired, and it had two bad valves. Transmission was noisy as was the rear differential. Interior was also in rough condition as was the convertible top. It took me near three years to make it a showroom condition car again. I kept the car until 1998 and sold it for $15,000 to a guy in Nova Scotia. I still regret ever selling it. Then again, I also regret selling many other vehicles that I once owned.

@@loucostabile Yes, I agree. Long ago I accepted the fact that it's not good to be upset over things that cannot be changed. I'm thankful that I've never lost a penny in any of my vehicle investments. Most, I did quite well whereas others, not so much. Most of all, I'm thankful about certain rare vehicles that I once owned still exist today. One was a red 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454 convertible that I bought from an estate auction for $30,000. It only had 34k miles on it. We did a very mild restoration on it, and I sold it to Reggie Jackson for $80,000 3 months later. It later went through a Barret-Jackson auction and sold for $130,000.

From what Carroll Shelby told me, he wouldn't allow a Shelby Mustang convertible, so Ford and Shelby parted ways after 1967, but Ford retained the naming rights for years. Any of the Shelby Mustangs are valuable, except maybe the Mustang II's. In addition to the Shelby Mustangs now being built on a Ford assembly line, Ford introduced a notched-back coupe, with Shelby hang-on's besides the Shelby's. Out here in California these new 1968 faux-Shelby coupes were badged as the GTCS "California Special" . My wife's family in Nebraska had the same basic car, but there it was sold as the "High Sierra Special". Leftover 1968 Shelby Mustangs were sold in 1969 and did not have the next Mustang bodies. At that point, Ford no longer needed Shelby and replaced them with Shelby-like Mach IV's and the Mach I was introduced along with, later the "Boss" Mustangs. Virtually any Shelby Mustang is cool, regardless of who or when it was made. Oh, in 1971or 2, a local used car lot had a 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500KR for sale and they were hoping to get $1500. for it. Afterall, it was still basically a used Mustang! lol

How long have you been holding this video back, Lou? It looks like summer out there and not like the 13th of November. That engine compartment looks even more packed than that of the 428 '68 Cougar in your recent video. The air conditioning option in a convertible was probably rare, because of obvious reasons. It's strange that California smog devices were added onto a 49-state vehicle. I wonder as to if an order in California was somehow cancelled, renderring this vehicle to end up elsewhere
