No disrespect to Rob, Judas Priest are pioneers And Halford is a phenomenal metal singer/frontman. That being said, how can you put Halford over Dio? Sheer technical ability alone should dictate that Ronnie James Dio is the undisputed best heavy metal vocalist of all time, even if you don’t prefer his operatic style of signing.

As much as I love and admire Rob : I have seen JP live 4 times and the last was painful to watch and hear voice-wise. Screeching high screams drowned in tons of reverb and echo effects, but not much singing, as half the word were mumbled (and echoed) between two screams. I surprised myself wishing for him to stop and let us hear Richie's guitar better.

I used to feel the same way about the falsetto vocals, but I've gotten more into them thanks largely to bands like Priest and Merciful Fate. Halford's performance on Painkiller is truly godlike!
@Nissardpertugiu
@Nissardpertugiu 7 ай бұрын
@Crandaddy81 halford doesn't use falsetto. High vocals don't mean falsetto. Falsetto is a disconnecred head voice with zero folds vibrating. Its the ghost voice King Diamond voice. Halford does full voice and mix voice. Mix voice is a combining of chest voice and head voice place in one resonating and powerfull connected voice to the chest . The whistle in upper register is due to larynx technique with pharyngal resonance to hit thoses notes without sounding like a baby or a girl 😊

He is definitely someone who makes you feel better about yourself and life in general after listening to him. This is a rare trait. Oh and Rob should not worry about his voice. Everybody knows how good he is. I put him up there with the greatest voices in all musical genres: Sinatra, Bennet, Mama Cass, Daryl Hall (Hall & Oates)... and select others. All these people have exceptional qualities to their voices and the fact that Rob represents the Metal genre so well, truly makes him the Metal God! I also discovered Pantera thanks to watching them opening for Priest back in '91. After the gig, Dime was hanging out with crew members backstage in an area where everyone could see him, just because he didn't go for that "keep being invisble thing" and they were still too unknown for people to bother him. He was eating some French fries and a friend of mine asked him for one. Dime laughed so much, but still he said he was too hungry to give one. 3 years later they were headlining that same arena. And once again, Dime came after the gig, visibly exhausted and byt still came to that backstage area where fans could see him and threw some picks to the fans. Never seen such a humble guy on metal has him.

As long as other people enjoy it and I keep progressing then I can live with it my voice, but I find with age I am getting more and more unhappy with my voice, it's a pretty inconsistent instrument- a couple hours sleep less or a heavy conversation the night before will bugger it up for the next day Edit- I did mean actual deep conversation there, not shouting arguments. Always wondered if anyone else had that problem! I think "I was talking, not screaming, why can't I sing for a day?!?"
