Death is icon status. No one can touch them. But as silly as this might sound, Dethklok for me are worthy runners up once you think beyond the cartoon and really listen to the music itself, especially Dethalbums II and III. With Gene Hoglan behind the drums, you have some of Death's blood running in Dethklok's veins. Both bands are heavy yet tasteful with every instrument. Actual musicality and composition behind the songs, not just an over-reliance on an onslaught of speed, complexity or brutality. Yet all those elements are there in just the right amounts. I dunno. It might sound dumb to everyone else cuz of the cartoon or how melodic they are (personally a plus for me since I'm a sucker for melody) but Dethklok are unironically one of my favorite bands and just stands out to me in that same special way Death did / does for everyone else.

Started listening to death metal in the early 90s during the Florida hay day. It was AMAZING then and still is today. Nothing like it and it brings me back to a much simpler time in life. Not so much shit going on in the world. Just great music being made coming out of here. Obituary, C.C., Death, Deicide, the list goes on and on. Oh, and you have to give it to Brazil for giving us tribal death metal from Sepultura. Beneath The Remains & Arise are AWESOME!!! I love all you guys!!! Keep it real and keep it alive!!!!!
