"Misery is wasted on the miserable": Just like youth is wasted on the young; when you are in a state of being miserable, you can't appreciate the fleeting sweet melancholy it offers. You don't appreciate how time seems to slow down for you or how you are driven to introspection and to a newfound wisdom of who you really are. You just want the heartbreak to end and you miss all the signs of the precious bittersweet nugget of love you are left with.

Our Sadness is only a measure of how deeply we loved. Joy can't come without sadness. And if you handle sadness right, it becomes compassion. When you extend your sadness and relate it to others. Then, everyone becomes likable, because everyone suffers and you can relate to it. You see that we are all in the same boat. And even when you don't have anyone loving you exclusively, you are free to love everyone. You are free!! This is beautiful in a way.

There were no mistakes made though, that's just the thing. If you go back to a hotel with a woman and there's all kinds of flirting going on, it doesn't seem that weird if he makes a move on her. He has a kink for masturbating in front of people. Not strangers but people he was clearly close to. Those that he did it in front of agreed that it was ok. What's wrong is that the women came out and shared something which was a private matter and made it into a public one. Louis is a bit pervy; that's all you can really say about the guy. There were no mistakes made except on the womens part.

Paul Welsh I’m in agreement. I try to take the objective position and give it the benefit of the doubt. Probably, they were all drunk/possibly high. Things escalated and he said something that may come off socially awkward, but there was no sexual assault. No crime, but our society is hyper sensitive and easily offended these days. If you follow Louie, he’s mad real. That’s why he’s loved. Cause he says it like it is.

That last shot of the man walking away with his dog is absolutely beautiful. Young people might see that elderly man shuffling along the city street and think "Look at his limp and the way he's being lead around by his dog! What a sad and mediocre life that man must be living." But the truth is that the old man has experienced more joy and sorrow than youth alone can ever offer. He has truly experienced what it is like to be alive. Nothing really scares him anymore. He's content with being himself. Gorgeous on so many levels.

Nikhil Sasi Rajan hundreds of millions of men feeling better about love, fatherhood, relationships and growing old and dying wasn't as important as giving that handful of entitled middle class feminist women their bitter petty revenge for some buyer remorse dick that they felt "held them back". Making petty useless and entitled white women feel good about themselves is becoming more important than having a good male role model for young men that could maybe turn them into the sorts of people those selfsame feminists claim they want men to be. Making upper class feminist zealots feel secure in their paranoid misanthropy is, in general, becoming more important than morality or aesthetics. As long as people like Meryl Streep and Barbara Streisand aren't being held back or hassled, says hollywood, then the MeToo movement is working...a shame that spotlight never falls on the thousands of poor Appalachian marital-rape victims that exist or the millions of women living in literal sexual slavery tied to a bed and pumped full of heroin 24/7...or say, even, the average obese black mcdonald's worker who gets molested by her boss. Never see that shit in the times. But "bein' creepy" is always a hangable offense if the target is a talented pretty white woman of stage and screen. "Don't touch our pretty rich white women" should be the official motto of the movement...all the movement cares about. High status entitled cunts with a platform to whine about stuff that happens to THEM...never things that happen to others.

This was a time where I couldn't eat or sleep, I was so heartbroken I felt sick to my stomach and his content had me laughing out loud in my room by myself (which I never do even normally, for me to crack a smile alone means something) I've never related to another comedian more, the feelings I get from his insight is almost like a drug in how it transforms my mood

“A pleasure is full grown only when it is remembered. You are speaking, Hman, as if the pleasure were one thing and the memory another. It is all one thing. … What you call remembering is the last part of the pleasure… When you and I met, the meeting was over very shortly, it was nothing. Now it is growing something as we remember it. But still we know very little about it. What it will be when I remember it as I lie down to die, what it makes in me all my days till then - that is the real meeting. The other is only the beginning of it. “( Out of the Silent Planet, p. 73)

Unlike most shows. The sleeping masses only want instant gratification & get upset at something that challenges their way of beliefs & requires them to read between the lines.

The first time I broke up, it felt really tough and I ended up crying a lot. What I had in my mind was exactly this; it sucked knowing that one day I wouldn't be sad anymore. I wouldn't remember her voice or all the funny moments we had. I hated knowing that she would slowly fade away and it would be as though I never met her in the first place.

I can see what he's saying, but, once you get to the forgetting stage, when you no longer care about someone who left you with a broken heart, feels much more comfortable than the agonising missing them stage. And if you can look back and say 'we had some good times after all' it's much better than wallowing in bitterness and hatred for years like some one I could name

I remember this scene hitting hard when I first saw it and didn't really have any way to directly relate to it. Now, as someone whose been married and divorced, it hits immeasurably harder and far closer to home. Really some incredible, Bergmanesque writing here

Masterpiece! Nothing but the truth from a phenomenological perspective. You will never feel love as intense as when you miss someone. That’s the moment when your sentiments overcome your capacity to do something about it.

Yeah, this clip is helping me a lot. I know regular self-help culture wants you to get over things as fast as possible and ARGH, make you a go-getter-achiever etc But me being sad about missing her makes me realise I actually care about the important stuff in life. Me being sad means I still feel love and me feeling love means I stll care and with that care... I can do my best to make this world better. Because I love this world and life where I can meet someone and feel this way.

Are we understanding this younger, as a generation? With so much information and experience readily available. I'm recently 30 and have been feeling this for a few years now. I relate to old people who, while still living the best they can, look back fondly on the ignorance and passion of youth, and also look forward fondly to when they'll finally get to rest from this whole ordeal

About to break up with my fiance. This was the closest I got to that "fantasy" relationship I spent years chasing. This was, of course, after two big, tragic, relationships in my life. I've spent a decade agonizing over these losses and the fantasy I created in my head, telling myself that I needed someone to be happy. Its taken a long time, but I've come to appreciate the heartache. Like another commenter says -- it's part of what makes me and my life unique. It'll be hard, but in a way I look forward to the change that's coming in my life. I need it. It's what has to happen, and it may be the last time I ever get to feel this way.
