This is really insightful. And it was great seeing how you gave the space to get out and articulate his thoughts. Very refreshing

For sure the whole goal is to learn as much as possible from the guest.

I play music for a living and I do crowd work almost every show, it's incredibly easy. The craft of building an act and weaving themes together is much more impressive and artistic. I won't say crowd work is never funny but for me only the top 5% of it is watchable. When you understand how it works, there's almost no magic in it.

How does it work?

@@evancomedy You either try find any reason to bully people that will look passable or you go with associations and try to come up with something funny.

There is magic in it when done well, take Andrew Schulz as an example of a lot of presearch

There’s a reason why Louie doesn’t like people coming up to him saying “I know what you’re doing”

I'm about 4 years into it and all this stuff makes a ton of sense. I'm still developing my bigger jokes, but yeah, this is all great.

this is so cool, way more insightful than those top-comics-chatting-about comedy videos (those are cool too in their own way). ive yet to see anything like this where it breaks down the craft without sterilizing or demystifying it. just using normal, accessible language to describe what needs to take place for effective comedy, with the understanding that you have to be actually funny for it to work

It was only that way during the Patrice O’Neal era with young Bill Burr, Bobby Kelly, Jim Norton, Kevin Hart, Keith Robinson - idk why I’m just listing comedian names at this point

I don't blame comics posting crowd work clips but my God it's getting tiresome. There are some exceptions, I love Phil Hanley for example, but I just can't stand the idea that standup comedy is going to slowly devolve into spending $50 a ticket just to hear someone ask other audience members what they do for a living. I don't give an eff about the audience! I want to hear good bits.

Where is the link to the workshop he was talking about? ECB or some shit
@scottshanahan38276 күн бұрын
It's UCB, the upright citizens brigade. I don't think it's a workshop, but I think they have classes.
@HotBreathPod6 күн бұрын
He's talking about UCB but "the game" is an improv technique that can also translate to stand up.

what iss an act out
@micsmif793 күн бұрын
Am act out is when you deliver the punch line or tag and then you literally act it out.
