But he asked for permission...

Yeah, I don't get it. Did he ask for permission? Did he get permission? Did the person or people he asked, have freedom to decline, without being repetitively asked in spite of the declining? If the answer to all three is yes, then I don't get what exactly he did wrong.
@patrickbateman8122
@patrickbateman8122 6 жыл бұрын
he felt morally obligated to say sorry for something he got permission for, because after the fact he realized, "hey, i was in a position of power over this person, what i did probably wasn't right to that other person".

but still.. how are they categorizing what he did as sexual abuse when he asked for permission in the first place... plus I'm pretty sure those women need to redefine sexual misconduct and abuse

Can I just ask something honestly? How is this sexual misconduct? He asked them and they said yes. They're not children, which means they are capable of making a decision for themselves. If they regretted it afterwards that's a totally different thing, but it's on them. If he did it without asking them before, then this would be a problem, but he never made them do anything they didn't want to do. I'm not trying to be mean, but as a woman I don't understand this. If I don't want something I just say no, I have my own head, no one can psychologically pressure me into doing something I'm uncomfortable with. Physical pressure is a totally different thing., as well as doing something without the other side's consent, but since when is saying yes to seeing a guy's genitals and afterwards complaining about abuse a thing?

Huge fan of Louis CK and continue to love his work. But ‘consent’ is more complex than an answer of ‘yes’ or even a lack of response, when you’re dealing with positions of power or awe over others. I’m not fully defending the women who have come forward, I think what he’s been through has been excessive, but just trying to give a perspective.

From what I've heard..... he asked first, the women laughed thinking it was another one of his jokes, and he went on with it and actually did it. Which even if people are joking around, one thing is to say you're going to do something another completely different thing is to actually DO IT. It just shows how he is not self-aware of his actions, at that time. I do give him props for owning it up now and apologizing.

Wait, he asked for consent and received such consent according to his statement. So if this is true, which I am inclined to believe, then the definition of “misconduct” has been drastically expanded.
@melchristensen8282

Part of the legal definition of sexual harassment is defined as: "A victim may consent or agree to certain conduct and actively participate in it even though it is offensive and objectionable. Therefore, sexual conduct is unwelcome whenever the person subjected to it considers it unwelcome." I'll let you figure this out for yourself. I'm sure you can.

Mel Christensen okay so let’s just have a though experiment then- say you hang out with a girl and one thing leads to another and you have sexual relations with her. She agrees to this relation. You go home and life your life. A couple years down the road you get a high profile job and make good money. That girl goes and sues you for “sexual misconduct” ruins your life, you lose your job. Your family. Everything. You think that’s right?

Wait, I'm confused. He says he asked before he did it.... So, did they not give consent and then he proceeded any way? Or If they gave consent, Did he actually threaten their careers to get that consent? Or, did they just assume that he would hurt their careers if they turned him down? If he asks first and they give consent, how is it sexual misconduct? The misconduct would happen if he asked, they turned him down and then he actually hurt their careers because of it. That would be misconduct... This just seems like, they're throwing him under the bus because he likes a unusual, sexual thing and he's a big name. Or is he just not allowed to get sexual with anyone within the industry, because he has more power than them?

Or, maybe just maybe, people get a crush on the people they interact with in their day to day lives and want to have a sexual interaction with them specifically, and no amount of paying prostitutes or spending time with their wife will negate that. If you think that the average guy has not jerked off thinking of at least 2-3 of his female coworkers, then you don't really understand anything about male sexuality.

Vault420 no, but that's irrelevant. If they feel like they have to, even if they haven't been outright threatened, they are not freely giving consent, they're giving it because they think something bad might happen otherwise, and consent is only valid if it's freely given. If you know that you have power over somebody and that they might just not want to upset you, then you have to have prove to them that they won't suffer any consequences if they refuse or you just don't put them in that position in the first place
@2CSST2
@2CSST2 6 жыл бұрын
Bambi Your reasoning is not wrong, but at the same time this *should* be distinguished from a person of power actually blackmailing someone or not bothering about getting a consent from the other person at all. This may sound wrong to you, but I think we also have to keep in mind what sort of power it is. It's not like he has power over them physically or even over their whole career. In this specific case, the worst he could do was cancel that contract they were working on, he's not their lifetime job boss. I think those are all details that matter, then add to that the fact that we're not even talking about sexual intercourse but only exposure. So it's "Indecent exposure given under consent that was not actually blackmailed for but for which the girl could have felt compelled to accept since their was a potential predicament". The whole thing just seems to be as minor as it's wrong. And for it to be a scandal definitely excessive.

There is a difference there: people are demanding he steps out of show business and takes extensive therapy. It's not really a lapidation case here. Also, I have never harrassed or assaulted, it's just a few people who make life impossible for others.

To the people saying he did nothing wrong: what he did wrong was he did not understand that if you are in a position of power (like he was a famous comedian) it gets very difficult to deny him his request. ofcourse! ofcourse what louis did was wrong and inappropriate. ofcourse sexual harassment in the workplace is a very serious issue, and all women exposed to it should speak out and the men doing it should be punished as hard as possible, ofcourse! but maybe... maybe becoming the most brilliant comic ever means you have to go through some dark periods in your life, and maybe the things you did were not that bad or even illegal, and maybe, just maybe you should be able to come back if you apologize very nicely and show you have learned from your mistakes, escpecially as you have contributed more to feminism and female empowerment as a whole than any number of hot actresses who dont know how to hang up a phone. ofcourse not, ofcourse not! but maybe...

I dunno, I don't see Louis as a power abusing type. On accident? Sure, that happens all the time. But the stupid #MeToo thing is just a publicity trip for no name women to get a piece of the lime light. If someone wronged you, take it to them, settle it between you, and if it needs to go to court, do so. Why does it need to be so publicly announced? Some of these guys are despicable people who should be shamed for what they did, but that doesn't mean that every guy should be treated the same way. Louis asked first. How is it his fault those women didn't have the willpower to stand up for what they believed in their minds? Celebrities aren't gods. You CAN say no to them. Obviously I don't know the whole story and what really happened behind closed doors, but so many people are on witch hunts pretending that everything behind closed doors is the same situation and should be tried as such.
