Nice work Lou, and thankfully none of the nipples broke off your tanks while you were wrestling -- they are very fragile. I replaced the filler neck hose on my 328 with the tanks/engine in the car. The trick was to remove the filler neck, put the new hose on the tank and pull it down below the final position, then slide/maneuver the fill neck past the new hose back into position. As the fill neck squeezes past the top end of the hose, jam it into the hose and move the hose back up where it needs to sit. Luckily there is just enough slop in the mounting area for the filler neck and you can get away with a slightly oversized hose. Vaseline helps too. Thank god replacing the two hoses on the crossover pipe connecting the tanks was easier, since I did that job laying on my back under the car while it was on jack stands.

Your perseverence and tenacity in getting the job done is admirable - whilst providing the viewer with both an informative and entertaining video - well done. I have used POR15 on steel fuel tanks and it 'appeared to work'. Not so sure it's suitable for aluminium tanks and as you have confirmed - it's certainly not suitable for Ferrari aluminium fuel tanks that are equipped with an internal coating of sorts. Good luck and look forward to the remainder of the build.

That fuel filler neck is a pain, surprised it was so hard with the tank out. I did mine in the car. Turns out I should have left mine alone, someone had used a plumbing fitting of some sort it was so think it never woulda failed. But after cutting it out it was no good Glad to see you back posting more 308 stuff!!

3:15 now I've never done it myself on fuel tanks (other types) , I've seen plenty of videos on guys who clean up the inside of fuel tanks by putting a cup or two of varsol inside with a handful of nuts and bolts etc and shaking it around. It does knock off all the loose debris and the liquid washes it away. Then pressure treat after. Mustie1 does it all the time on aluminum motorcycle and scooter tanks...seems to work quite well. He also uses Dep (??) or some cleaner he uses in his ultrasonic cleaner.... Too late for these but if you ever come across a need to clean the inside of a container/tank......

Great to have some new videos for 2024 Lou. I've coated the inside of my tank with a similar product and it worked fine. Not sure if you'd already done this as it was not in the video but you're supposed to put in another product to remove all rust and flakey material prior to coating with POR15. Gives it a more porous surface to adhere to.

Have to admire your determination and patience. Don't know if you looked at one of the Ferrari "chat" sites for the tank install but i have always pulled the brake rotor and upper control arm to install gas tanks on 308's. Just a warning if your new to Ferrari's. There are a lot of "chat" contributors who don't know these cars but present themselves as knowledgeable.

The trick for those that are not mechanically inclined or who are simply not familiar with their cars is to separate the "good" from the "bad". I spent fifty years servicing, restoring, and race prepping various Ferrari's and can tell you there is a large contingent of so called experts who don't know these cars. i respond to videos like yours only as a 'public service" and to offer credible assistance to those in need. good luck with your project.

Glad to see another video from ya, Lou! I had a 1982 BMW 320i, which interestingly also had two tanks with a crossover pipe. I had a running issue that I put down to the early fuel injection system. I put a side draft Weber DCOE on the car when in fact, my problem was probably all the rust and gunk in the tank blocking the fuel pickup filter. Steel tanks for me though, I put a length of chain in each tank and did the vigorous shake 'em up dance rattling the chains all over the inside. Got a truly unbelievable amount of rust flakes an dust out before using chemicals to get the small stuff. I wonder if the chain dance would have helped you with that weird scale in your tanks? Anyway, that car left me long ago but it was a favorite of mine. Cheers!

I thought for a moment the issue with the tank sealer was that it was an alu-min-ium (I'm British) tank and the sealant/paint needed an etch primer to adhere. But then i saw it had stuck to the varnish. What a PITA. I had to cut a hole in a stainless tank so feel your pain.

A working fuel gauge on a 308 will give you a rough hint about how much gas you have, but it is actually much better as a cornering g meter. Oh and happy New Year!

Well done Lou! It's good to see you working on the car again, and those fuel tanks are a thankless job.I did the same, but used a special two-component resin made especially for fuel tanks. Also, I have one of the baffles inside that broke free just so it could interfere with the fuel sender.

That looked painful. Just a word to everyone about using compressed gas to pressure test a vessel. DON'T!!!!!!! You are literally creating creating an explosive device should the vessel fail, My career was pressure testing large tanks, vessels, pipelines, reactors. Only in the most unusual circumstances would we ever even consider an air test. And then there would be layer upon layer of safety precautions put in place. Water is a non compressible fluid. No boom if anything fails. And🤐 Much safer for the family jewels. Nice to see Terry.

14:11 safety squints engaged! lol Regarding the quality of your tigs....have you SEEN the welds on new ferraris and McLarens? BRUTAL. ATROCIOUS. LUDICROUS. all appropriate adjectives. I've seen bubble gum welds before and they were nice compared to some from the factory. I mean, the very first time I picked up a mig gun I produced welds better than those. My point being: your welds are fine. In a situation like this the main thing is that they are fluid proof NOT pretty.

I think it reacted to the OEM coating inside the tank, so if you're going to use it, the tank must be pristine inside.
