I have proudly spent more than 24 hrs of my life watching this film and showing it to friends, having seen it more than 6 times by now. It’s epic. Sincere. Naive. Crude.

Literally the only film I've ever seen that gets across powerfully both 1) how Christianity of all sorts can absolutely fuck up your psychosexual development irreversibly, and 2) the analogies between exterior cult social dynamics and interior manipulative thinking As someone who grew up in Evangelical Hell, I have never seen another piece of media get across that bizarre complex one develops of feeling like one *needs to sin* so forgiveness keeps flowing

Years back this was the first film I ever saw from Sion Sono. I can only describe this film as a 4-hour wild rollercoaster ride. Such a gem. Why Don't You Play In Hell (2013) is another one of my favorites. That is such a fun film to watch as well.
@TheBigBoatman7 жыл бұрын
Also one of my favourites, after watching it for the second time all I could think was, 'Oh I wish they released the six hour cut'. It really does keep you entertained throughout. I think it is a film most people can get something from, but trying to convince someone to watch a 4 hour film is a challenge within itself lol.

I remember the first Sion Sono movie I ever saw, it was Suicide Club. I heard about it from some movie reviewer if I remember right and saw the dvd at a blockbuster when we still had those. I loved it and bought it the first chance I got. It wasn't until later when I found out he had made more movies and some of them came state side, one of them was Love Exposure which I also thought was amazing in a whole different way. It's the kind of movie that's so wild and out there that I can't imagine it being make anywhere but in Japan.

Great to see a video on Love Exposure! I'm glad you point out what really sets this film apart as something special. I saw the movie a month ago and, while I prefer the first half to the second, I think it's truly spectacular. I'd recommend that everyone who likes Love Exposure check out the manga Oyasumi Punpun, a coming-of-age perverted romance with a weird cult. It's not just the overt similarities, but themes of love, broken families, and suffering that tie them together.

Saw it 11 years ago and it instantly made my top 5. Hasn't moved an inch since. When I first saw it, immediately showed my buddy & we actually got depressed after. Screw that avatar world depression people got, this made any other movies seem bad for a month or two after the first time. Sounds like an exaggeration but I seriously had to take a month off movies after this in 2010. BTW, anyone know where to get the 6 hour? I only found this movie (and Sion sono) randomly floating around an Asian movie torr site. Great job on the video, man. It's REALLY hard to break this one down & cut it up the way you did, & still leave room in the plot for the first timers. I was tempted to do a faith, hope and love thematic dissection for film class but it got to 30 pages and was looking at another 30 so I had to scrap it. I'm subbed now. 👍
