For me personally, I prefer the aesthetic look of the fxrt fairing over the new st. Which is how I ended up buying a 2018 sport glide with a fxrt fairing instead of a low rider st 😂

I think at the end of the day I do to in terms of aesthetics - But was someone who’s laid down miles on both setups, functionally speaking, the ST wins

I have had a RT fairing on an fxr (no longer have the fxr). It was nice on interstate but prefer the road warrior on my fatbob better. Allows good air flow and just enough wind protection on interstate. FYI for anyone running road warrior…. Fit (fabrication needed) a bagger triple tree wind deflector, it will help reduce tank updraft which is where most helmet buffeting comes from. Also fork deflectors help as well. New St looks great. Haven’t experienced it yet though. Lucky you 🤙.

The Road Warrior is definitely the best in between in terms of everything, I ran that fairing hard for about 40k miles with no complaints

Hmm there's a couple things I'd like to highlight, your mention of how the Harley engineers know more about the Harley than anyone is correct and the fact that make minor changes to current models on a yearly basis to improve the models is a good example. The Dyna itself saw so many improvements over the years ending up with cruise control and a 49mm front end which improved overall comfort and handling. Critics never notice that Harley has a habit of doing this without the customer base asking. Adding the 49mm triple trees to the modern touring models which had been 41mm since the FL began was huge and improved the touring line in noticeable ways. The ST fairing does not seem to be an aesthetic modification, I'm positive given your reviews that it is extremely functional. I recently got grief from a friend who complained about my use of windshields and fairings saying I never even owned a windshield in the old days. In the old days, traffic didn't drive as fast it does now and while that's fine on secondary roads, if you ride interstate miles, it's dangerous to not ride at traffic speeds and or faster. Ten year old compacts are capable of 80 plus interstate traffic and most traffic averages that. (The fact that people are able to rent average cars and break Alex Roy's cannonball record is proof at that statement. ) A windshield or fairing is a must for modern riders who use their motorcycle for all uses. (Sure I would leave a backroad hooligan bike naked but that's a whole other topic.) Aesthetically I like the ST fairing better on the Softail line. I have seen a few FXRT fairings on Softails and they looked good but I think the ST fairing looks natural and non-kit bike looking. I like it with the windshield size it has which I know wouldn't work for me and except for maybe Madstad, I'm not sure a taller windshield would look right on it. (I think only the Batwing looks normal with taller windshields because we've been seeing it for decades. The Road Glide not so much.) Since the Street Glide came out over a decade ago I've been reading forum post about wind buffeting associated with the Street Glide and I saw lots of riders trying out every gimmick so they could keep that short windshield and the answer, WAS LITERALLY, staring them in the face. I'm extremely happy Harley is becoming more concerned with ergonomics with the understanding that satisfied customers are repeat loyalists that recommend their product to their friends and will defend them passionately with credible fact checks in the sea of motorcycle disinformation online. For me it's another pinpoint I can use to prove that Harley is the best motorcycle manufacturer on the planet.

Such a good point about modern traffic - Really wish I could have experienced the days where you could get away with functionally not running a fairing - I was in elementary school 😜

I have the jd custom’s fxrt fairing on my 2020 fxlrs. Very easy install. What is the weight difference between the two fairing’s? I do agree that it is expensive to do the fxrt fairing mode but it’s worth every penny.

I need to look it up, but I can tell you from putting a lot of miles on both fairings, the weight difference is noticeable

I'm seriously thinking about going with the first aftermarket ST fairing on a dyna. Not sure yet, but my hopes to pick up an ST kind of got shot down by life.

They’re definitely starting to pop up here and there - I saw @blockhead retrofit one from the factory, so I would imagine HD will offer it at some point as a kit

I think the one thing the FXLRST has over the FRXT/P fairings is the simplicity for an audio setup, I don't know much about audio setups but the ST only needs to replace a panel and do some wiring for the Rockford speakers. I assume though the FXRT fairing allows you to be a little more flexible with audio options assuming you know what you're doing. But I have a feeling for getting audio in a FXRT fairing you might have to do some research firstly and maybe some cutting? Honestly though I'll probably just run a RW or T sport with a Plex if I ever wanted to one day. But I like the FXRT fairing for the old school look and it's got matching lowers

Its cheaper to oder the parts for the ST fairing than to buy an FXRT Copy. Then just mod the bracketry to suit your own machine.
