I still have the original RADO Diastar which was a gift to me for my college graduation 🎓 and still working for 30 years without any issues and in very good condition.

I agree that a lot of RADO's designs appeal more to certain markets and certainly India provides a strong following. I have one of their more conventional designs with white dial and Arabic style numerals The movement is the eta 2892 - 2, which is an excellent performer keeping chronometer standard time and has remained a favourite in my small collection.

Mid century modern design classic you look at that watch and instantly it screams Sputnik 1960s atomic and it looks just as relevant and modern today as it did nearly 70 years ago when it originally came out

It's a Powermatic 80 movement, which is essentially a modified ETA 2824 with 80 hours power reserve.

ETA 2836-2 movement in this one. Ordered one of these yesterday. I like wearing unique style watches like this as they are seldom seen with only 500,000 Rado watches in all patterns. Not many Diastars produced each year .

I love rado, i wear a 30 year old gold and black ceramic integral, the abuse its received over the years is unreal, no issue with it, never, not once. Iv dropped oven cleaner all over it, beer, wine, bleach, chlorine, i once put my arm all the way into and industrial dishwasher when it was blocked, my rado just keeps ticking.

The case may be pretty tough or scratch resistant but I can't say the same for the bracelet and clasp. It's pretty horrible. I rather have full ceramic like the True Square. I don't have to be wary of scratches with that beauty. Anyway, the Diastar is truly divisive. One either love or hate it. There's nothing else like it. True classic !

Maybe a modified one? The movement in this watch ticks at 21,600, the ETA 2836 beats at 28,800.

@@gibmebalut Maybe but I have an old one from the 70's and I measured it by an app (I'm sure about the accuracy of the app) and it gave me that it ticks at 28,800 or maybe the old ones have a different movement

It’s an eta powermatic 80 If you never had a travel case then u are a rookie tag heuer omega and other high end watches have travel cases it’s disrespectful to call it rados ugly duckling this happens to be the first scratch proof watch radio has a few first ever watche for example the first all ceramic watch study the brand history before you call a masterpiece the ugly duckling😡

All my successful Asian uncles wear Rado. It is an Asian right of passage. Rado watches are also used to seal marriages as dowry. It is as to us the Asian Rolex. If you have one you made it here in Asia.
