I've seen, that you haven't continued your exploration of LOVEBITES. This week, they went both #1 on DVD and #1 on Blu-ray sales with their new live album "Knockin' At Heaven's Gate" (August 23rd, 2023) in Japan. Since last week, they are touring in Japan (today, they'll play in Sendai - sold out). Three of the live album videos are available on LOVEBITES KZbin channel. Their album "Judgement Day" was released on February 22nd, 2023. Miyako, the guitarist, released a piano EP with 6 covers of well known metal songs in June. There's a lot going on. There's also more than 60 songs, none of them fillers, all good. As an overview, I'll post a little list as an orientation. LOVEBITES never disappoint, you could pick any song, and will be satisfied. All 5 are master musicians, a supergroup!

Thank you. Truly, thank you…. The number of vocal coach channels I’ve asked to react to Asami is equal to the number of vocal coach channels that haven’t responded. But on the odd occasion one does react, guess what? They all react in a similar manner to yourself…they stop, catch their breath and realise they have to start paying attention. Asami’s skill is, for me, doubled by the fact that as a Japanese speaker she is not only singing quite demanding vocals, for a two hour show, but is doing such a good job enunciating her words. Yes she lapses her “L” and “R” sometimes, but usually in songs like this that are very wordy. In slower songs she has much better enunciation. And in more recent performances, she’s obviously been working on it because she’s better still. There is 2021 live version of this song on KZbin which I personally think is far better. Her long held “war” in both cases are about twice as long, and the lyrics are much clearer. I’m from the U.K., I’m 63, and this band has the 5 most talented people on one stage that I’ve ever seen and heard. As for Asami, having trained in ballet she is the epitome of grace. Her lyrics are always uplifting and positive. I don’t care if she is a married woman, a mother…I adore her. Because she is a beautiful human being. Humble, always smiling, grounded. Please react to more, her range is remarkable, it’s not all belting. Great reaction. Very friendly and engaging. More please !!

Asami the vocalist is a well-trained ballerina (hence the graceful movements of her arms and body) and she was an RnB singer before joining LOVEBITES. It's great to know that the arms and body movements indeed helped with her vocal projections. Thanks for the reaction, Jennifer. @@JenniferGlatzhofer I comply with every word in Zoran's comment. A concise analysis put into words that everybody can understand, even someone like me who has no experience with singing at all (what a pity!). Lovebites, who really are a remarkable band, have many more outstanding songs, so keep on analysing Asami's art, it's worth it! IMHO you definitely should also get aquainted with LiSA, much beloved and admired superstar, anime singer and performer. There's no one else like her. Her "First Take" performances made many listeners cry out of joy, because of the sheer beauty of her vocal artistry. There's a brand new video on the "First Take" channel where she is supported by the pianist and composer Yuki Kajiura who broke down that complex composition full of technicalities into a vocal/piano composition. That song isn't a popsong anymore, so it won't get as popular as some other songs that Yuki Kajiura wrote for LiSA (the most popular ones for sure are Gurenge and Homura, which added a lot to her reputation globally, being part of the "Demon Slayer"- Anime movies (Take a look at www.youtube.com/@The_FirstTake/search?query=lisa - it's highly recommendable, or should I say indispensable?

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Lovebites is one of the best bands in our country. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

They are a power and thrash metal band influenced by classic metal bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden. They have toured the UK with the British metal band DragonForce. Some metalheads don't like this vocal style they prefer the growling and screaming vocals of genres like death metal.
@crhu319

Most metalheads are just fine with operatic soprano style when there's expression and emotion. Within Temptation opens for Iron Maiden on their present US tour. I haven't heard any complaints. The bands that feature clean female vocals (WT, Epica, Lovebites, Nightwish, Amaranth) are usually superb musicians too, better than average imho for the genre. And the vocals are at least half cleans in Spiritbox, Jinjer and even Alissa does them now on some tracks.

Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their five years of existence thus far, they have easily put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They recently went on a year-long hiatus while they searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 and their fans eagerly await their next move. They just announced an album due out in February. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics. With Miho having left for personal reasons, they recently announced their new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." Here are more clips you should check out: “Set the World on Fire” kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2rdpHtsnqySbMU from their recently released concert DVD “Heavy Metal Never Dies”. “Don’t Bite the Dust” kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXnRfHp7n5Z2g8U, from the same concert; "Edge of the World" and "We the United", back to back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ2TXohjrtB9ebc They form an incredible journey from darkness and despair to light and hope. Also, “Empty Daydream”, which starts as a ballad and becomes a real rocker: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oonLkKiDgp5noLc. Miyako is also a virtuoso concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. If you want to see what she can do on the piano, watch “Swan Song” WITH the prelude, which is Chopin’s “Revolutionary Etude” (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor). Miyako wrote “Swan Song” using elements from several classical pieces including the Etude. This link should work: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXPLpaSdnr14d5Y. For a thrasher with heavy Slayer and Metallica vibes, “Break the Wall” kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWGVYpSGZ8aibLs includes two gorgeous and completely contrasting solos by M&M. For a heart-stopping ballad, “Epilogue” kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6rRn4t6m6qhpLs (this includes a second song, your choice whether or not to react to both) Finally, while you will sometimes hear you should only react to live clips, actually their MV’s are epic and worth seeing. Here are four of the most spectacular: "Shadowmaker" kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKPQoJ-kaqyrq9U This is the song that blew up and melted faces all over the world "When Destinies Align" kzbin.info/www/bejne/nn2plp9_bpiJoa8 "Glory to the World" kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6itpXdojaqLfpY "Winds of Transylvania" kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqSoZYiYlLWdnpo. You'll get lots of suggestions, just one thing: don't bother with Bloodstock footage, the sound quality is poor. Best to take suggestions with actual links. Also, you can’t go wrong with any of their official clips. Welcome to the Wolf-Pack!

(I'm not a music expert, what follows is a layman's monologue) Many voice trainers have distributed LOVEBITES reaction videos in the past. At that time, some people pointed out their concerns about the way Asami (singer) sang. "She often looks up (raises her throat) and sings in a high voice. But that's a bit risky." Even a layman like me can understand that when a human bends her throat and sings, it becomes difficult for her voice to come out smoothly. However, upon closer inspection, I realized that Asami wasn't singing with her throat bent. She appears to "curve her entire upper body" when she calls out to her ceiling. That way she avoids the risk of bending her throat. I think that the ability to use her whole body flexibly in this way has something to do with her past 16 years of serious training as a ballet dancer. It may also be meaningful that her base as a singer was made in a career of R&B and jazz rather than metal and rock. She seems to have earned the status of a metal singer who, like many rock/metal singers, doesn't strain her throat with growls and yells. ---------- from Nippon *It is a sentence using Google translation. I hope I conveyed my intentions correctly.

Actually, very few reactors realize what I realized a long time ago… You can lift up your chin when you sing, Ariana Grande does this and things amazingly… But to a certain degree. If you raise it up too much, then, yes, you are constricting the space in your throat, but if you raise it up slightly, that’s enough to open up the space in your throat, and raise up your chest force more because of that Because you’re raising of the larynx as well and creating that thin fold quality needed to do heavy, belting safely.

Great reaction - a couple of things - The song is roughly 163bpm - so it is fast ! Asami ( the singer ) comes from an R&B background and is also a trained ballerina - hence the poise throughout . Miyako ( the first guitar solo ) is , believe it or not a trained classical pianist and only taught herself guitar in High School .aged 19 . Midori ( 2nd guitar solo ) also started classical piano at the age of 2 and didn't start learning guitar until she was 20 . Haruna ( drummer ) has been playing since she was 13 ( she's only 4'10" tall ) and she's the powerhouse that drives the band . Miho - Bassist on this video has left the band and been replaced by Fami who is a star in her own right

Thank you for taking a look at LOVEBITES and Asami specifically. LOVEBITES has a definite core sound, but they manage an impressive amount of diversity in their songs without straying from that sound. I see others have suggested the "E songs" of "Empty Daydream," "Epilogue," and "Edge of the World," and they're all good, but I'd like to also suggest "Dancing With the Devil" as Asami shows a lot of attitude and sass and does a lot of extra runs in that song.

Just to counter any anti interruption crew; I'm here for the explanations in the interruptions. You and a few other reactors are, at least for me, the missed music schooling due to an unfortunate accident involving my music teacher in high school. Furthermore, I think you (all) give so much more insight in what music is about than whatever my brothers recieved when there was a new music teacher in place pale in comparison. This makes my appreciation of music so much more insightfull. Keep up the good and insightfull work and also the advocacy for music in general. Squad for more interuptions! 😊🎶

Awesome!! Detailed and iinformative reactions are the best!! Thanks! 🤘🐺🤘 Asami yes, i love her voice, her English is not perfect, but she tries. Other than that i find everything about her singing, amazing!! And she sings different styles, as the band has a variety of songs from ballads to faster Metal like this one!! Her background other than ballet from a young age, was R&B and Soul, that type of stuff, she loves Alicia Keys!! Coming into a powerhouse Metal band like LOVEBITES was a huge change in style for her, and she nailed it, perfect vocals for the band, just my opinion!! And the band chose her exactly because she wans't the typical metal singer, she was different and they liked that!!

Nice reaction! Watching these ladies reminds me of Debbie Reynolds, Fred Astaire's dance partner. She said once that women can do what men do, but backwards and in heels. So can Lovebites 😀
@dregeye

*Ginger Rogers was Astaire's dance partner who made that "backwards & in heels" true statement, though Debbie Reynolds is a gem of a vocalist, actress, dancer (Singin' In The Rain 1952) keeping up with Gene Kelly & Donald O'Connor in her first ever 'starring' role! LOVEBITES is the 'pinnacle' of music composition, arrangement & performance in my 7 decades of life, also beautiful, graceful, kind & empathic in their interactions with fans, while also bringing a 'message' of self-empowerment, perseverance, integrity, dignity, personal-responsibility & unity-in-love. "That was ... wow" I agree. And that was fun. I remember reading their band-name here on KZbin, but never got around listening to them. Now I have another band to look into. Thanks for that, whoever requested this reaction 😛 And Jen, don't apologise for pausing and breaking down the music. That's what most of us are here for. As a guitarist the technical difficulties of the instrumental parts of this kind of music are obvious to me, but I never thought about how much technique is involved in the vocals. You and others doing vocal analysis definitely chaneged how I listen to music. For suggestions this time I say (all live performances): different style, but go for it: Ayreon - Everybody Dies kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3KkiaeLmbJqrqc (should give no copyright issues, Arjen and Mascot are fine with reactions) a bit like Lovebites, but different: Dragonforce - Fury Of The Storm kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKmpaKOcjJymp6s and a two for one with nice contrast: Blind Guardian - Bard's Song and Valhalla live kzbin.info/www/bejne/n16slIuVl8iWfMU (edit: fixed stupid typos, should stop commenting when half asleep 😀)

Lovebites toured with DragonForce in 2019. Midori and Miyako are among the best metal guitar duos ever. You will agree if you check out more of their music. Lovebites plays thrash metal like Slayer, traditional metal like Iron Maiden, progressive metal like Rush or Dream Theater, as well as soft ballads with piano and acoustics guitar.

In the 2021 live performance, Asami holds that long note even longer, seems she forgot that you're supposed to breathe occasionally. 😅 A suggested track which shows off their versatility is Empty Daydream (Daughters of the Dawn live concert, 2019). A classical intro (Rachmaninov) by guitarist Miyako on keyboards, a slower vocal intro and some nice backing vocals and harmonies from the girls. Nice reaction, thank you. They wear white because they're very petite ladies. The white dresses will reflect light to make them easier to be seen scene on dark metal stages. The heels help too. Asmai, vocals is 4"10", Haruna, drums is 4'9", Midori, blue guitar and Miho, bass are 5" and Miyako, guitar is 5'2". Asami has said on fan chats that she does not do anything special for her and has no special pre-concert routine either. She is the prime lyricist in the band.

Kudos to ASAMI for singing in English, but I would enjoy hearing your reaction to her vocals in the original, Japanese language version of BRAVEHEARTED, from the 2017 LOVEBITES EP, her most soulful performance. English contains many sounds not found in Japanese. As a result, the sound of native speakers of Japanese singing in English is usually cringe worthy. (Not to be confused with the singing of foreign words in katakana, which is fine, charming even.) ASAMI’s English pronunciation is better than most, but I hear a lot of stress and harshness in her vocals which are not present in her delivery of Japanese lyrics. I’m curious to know if you hear the same thing.

Oh boy. If you fall in the japanese rock/metal all girls band hole, you're in for a trip lol. There are many groups all having a style both musically and vocally different, whether it's Lovebites all in power, Gacharic Spin which has a side that can be more "pop" with funk and metal accents, Nemophila and its singer Mayu, to the voice as angelic as rocky or even my favorite group Band Maid and its two vocalists, the powerful Saiki (lead vocal) and the adorable Miku (back up vocal but she has her own songs too).

Another great reaction, Jennifer! Lovebites has a lot of really great songs I think you would enjoy. There are also a lot of great all-female Japanese rock and metal bands that I am sure would really love too. The lead singer of Hagane (hah-gah-nay) has a similar vocal style, and their latest video is "Black Cult." Nemophila is a really great metal band and their lead singer, Mayu will give you some surprises, their latest single, "Seize the Fate" is a great song as is "Dissension" and the rest of their catalog. Band Maid is an interesting rock band with two main vocalists, although every member in the band can sing, they have over 120 songs in their catalog, and I haven't found one that I don't like. Trident is another great rock band, "Spoopy", "Cry Out" and "Signal" are some of their newest songs. I could list a couple of dozen more all-female bands from Japan that are excellent. In any case, I hope you are having a wonderful day!

There is another live version of this where it is the last song of the main set and Asami holds that last note even longer. This one it was the second song of the show. Great analysis and reaction! At the end of "winds of Transylvania" and "shadowmaker", you can hear Asami's penetrating, high-pitched voice. Also, at the same "hory war" concert in 2021, you will be uttering high tone voices for twice as long as you reacted in 2020.

Another suggestion from me, a Japanese person. Please listen to "Dignity of Spirit" by the Japanese band "Unlucky Morpheus". Vocalist Fuki's high tone voice and intense vibrato, And the technical performance of a violinist named Jill is impressive. I think it's a fun band from a voice tonener's point of view.

I read up on them finding them just like last night. They took like the thrash metal from the USA and the power metal from Europe threw out the J-pop/J-metal/J-rock sound and said lets play pure metal from the western world and melt peoples faces off. Well played ladies well played. As for the dresses it is because they want to stand out on stage and not just be like ever other band that wares black or some other dark color.

Your comment about not looking straight up while singing makes me wonder about the few metal singers i've seen who do that consistently. (Lemmy from MotorHead and Demolition Man from Venom Inc. come to mind in particular). They both are known for setting their mic stand high so that they are singing up into the mic from below. Granted, both are/were known for harsh, gravelly vocals so that may be part of it.
