I have to agree. You are giving your family the correct size portions of food. American food culture (generalizing) is that more is better. This is what makes us overweight. Your family looks healthy and happy. People like to criticize and be mean to others just to do so. Perhaps they should turn the camera on themselves, put it up on KZbin and see what judgements come there way. I hope you have a fantastic day!
@mariad79154 жыл бұрын
I'm with Shawna. Actually, it was nice to see another family prepare food and portions similar to mine. I would make about 1.25lb of meat for my family of six most nights with usually salad and potatoes on the sides. They never went hungry and were healthy. Now, truth be told, with only me and a 17yo and 19yo in the home I do fix more meat/person. Part of it is, my son is over 6' 2" and very ectomorph.

When people say your portions are too small, I think they have to remember that your kids are constantly snacking (homemade bread, fruit, etc.) I don't mean that as a bad thing either. It's not like if one of them came up to you and said they were hungry you would tell them "no" or "that's too bad". Plus a lot of times you have leftovers. I'm sure your family could eat them if they were still hungry and you wouldn't begrudge that 🤷
@kirakira76824 жыл бұрын
Christine I think I know why people say you dont feed your family enough A note: I am on a weightloss journey and am seeing how big portions actually are/how much food I used to over eat I think its because a lot of people just eat big portions. Going to a restaurant or some people's homes, people are served big meals and are used to seeing that. I think its that people are so used to being served big portions that seeing a normal healthy serving size is small. Theres a big difference in how much pasta I used to eat at dinner versus an actual healthy serving size. I hope I made sense!
@sheila39364 жыл бұрын
The old saying is a serving of meat is the size of a deck of cards. Vast majority of restaurants have huge servings though so somewhere along the line that came to be seen as normal.
@TsukinekoHeika4 жыл бұрын
You did make sense! We eat with our eyes first, then our noses, and then our mouths. Our stomach does not care at all about how it looks or smells or tastes, after all. Nor any other part of our body. Our eyes discern things like colour, spots, wrinkles and we grow up associating these with freshness (even if it's not actually indicative of freshness). Then we smell it to check for decay or toxins (even if we cannot actually smell them). Finally, the taste test, which also tests texture and consistency. While oral defensiveness is just a natural mechanism for some people and should never be ridiculed, most people have grown up with the luxury of ruling out entire food groups based on texture. Have you noticed that most sweet foods have a similar texture or consistency? We are creatures of habit and just as we like to try new things we crave what is familiar to us. Thus, if some foreign particle is there, on our plate, it's an offender and most people will reject it. Of course, if you put something in your mouth and it tastes like it's gone off, please spit it out and throw the rest away. Never continue eating something that you think might be bad!
@stephikarolyi87064 жыл бұрын
I DON'T want to hear another thing about your "portion sizes." There is so much food waste and encouraged overeating already people don't need to shame you unnecessarily for your appropriately sized portions. Speaking as a mom of very active children, when kids are very active they sometimes aren't even that hungry. When they are going through growth spurts they can devour everything so it's important to give them an appropriate sized portion and let them decide if they are still hungry or not and keep that communication open instead of putting large plates together with no real health advantage. When you cook minimally processed foods like you do they are actually more filling because the food is real balanced food and not just manufactured filler-heavy calories.

Can I just say I think you have the biggest heart, and sometimes you make me tear up with just how much you care about others. All the work and research you poured into figuring out meals for your father-in-law was incredible. I will echo his sentiment that if folks leave your table hungry, it's their own fault. I am the oldest of 9 children (for math wizards, that's a family of 11 - AND my parents hosted exchange students occasionally). We always ate dinner as a family and portions of the entree were always counted/measured. HOWEVER, there was always plenty of sides/veggies and none of us were allowed to complain we didn't get enough to eat if there was still food on the table. IF we managed to clear all the food, there was always a bowl of apples and oranges in the kitchen we could help ourselves to. I know I'm just a stranger on the internet, but I think you feed your family more than enough - hello! That's why you have leftovers! Keep the videos coming. Living for this Vlogust!

Ok, I have a few talking points that I have to get to, so grab a drink and a soft comfy seat! ok, 1) You absolutely serve and offer plenty of food. 2) I think we as Americans make too much food, eat too much food, and waste to much food! I think that you ALWAYS offer healthy fruit and stuff (not sure what stuff is, but I’m sure you offered it) you are teaching your kids that they can eat healthy food, that it’s right there for them, always! 3) I can not believe that people make comments like that, I know they do it, I just can’t believe it, well I guess I can believe it, I just don’t understand it! 4) I was thinking toothpicks on the corn, also I have silicone corn holders, if you stretch the bacon to the ends you could use the silicone holders to hold the bacon, so they won’t melt. 5) I also have a few weird but AMAZING foods to try, grilled cheese with grape jelly on top, ground hamburger with scrambled eggs mixed in, this ones not weird, but it’s not exactly the healthiest thing, but butter and brown sugar on the carrots (Amazing) Vanilla ice cream slightly melted with Special K mixed right in there! Trust me on all of these! 6) I was watching older videos and what happened to Andrews arm, it’s really bothering me that I don’t know! I feel like I wasn’t accepted into the secret club! I could start at the beginning, I am on couch rest (like bed rest, but on the couch) cause I have been walking to much on my broken foot, and the Dr wasn’t happy! Which explains this huge long comment!! We have all had that I hate life moments, mine happened to be a few weeks ago when I missed the bottom steps on the stairs going to my basement, and landed on my face, and broke my nose, and my foot, which now has brought us full circle! Oh 1 side note, you need to get the jar or garlic that is all minced for you, I have bought it on sale, and if you look around, and we all know you do that, you should find it at a great price! Sorry about the length!

Re: portion sizes. I don't think anyone should police what or how much you (or anyone else) eats. However I think it also comes down to body and diet. It seems that your family eats a higher meat and higher fat, lower carb diet than me, for example. That's not a judgment at all, just based on what I've seen. So my portion sizes are different. Different likes, dislikes, habits, bodies, etc. No problem. But again, no one should try to shame or police you. Nor the other way around (there are some kind of rude comments here about other people's portions being to big). Live and let live, everyone.

Its a 1/4 teaspoon of the preminced garlic in a jar to equal 1 clove im pretty sure :) Also people say you don't make enough food ?? I literally was thinking how well you feed your family.

I keep my kitchenaid on the counter only because it is 8000 lbs but I push it into the corner under the cabinets and I DO use it like, multiple times a week, its my favorite appliance along with my rice cooker (which funnily enough) I use 3-4 times a week but put it away every time I use it because it's got a spot and it's not heavy. My food processor on the otherhand is an expensive (which means heavy) version and I don't like that on my counter since I don't often use it. If only I have a butler's pantry to keep all of my small appliances hidden away but usable.
