My go-to is a green lentil spinach salad with hummus and fried onions then I have an orange for dessert. Delicious and helps my iron levels!!

Another tip is to have your Coffee or tea, green tea and some other herbal teas at least an hour before or after your meal. I think that was my issue!

I recently added Sunflower butter, prunes, pumpkin seeds, and more greens, and eliminated all Grains. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

It is the phytates in grains and legumes that block absorption of iron, zinc and calcium, not the low content of iron in these foods. Eating more lentils gives more iron and more phytates. The end result is a wash. Soaking the grains and legumes with little acid to get rid of phytates is the answer.

Onions and garlic combined with iron containing foods also boosts absorption along with the presence of vitamin C. Red Lentils, Tofu and TVP are very rich in iron 👍

@@kaligray6247 textured vegetable protein. It’s basically soy with the fat removed. It’s 50% protein by dry weight and very nutrient dense

Also- drinking coffee or black tea with a meal or within several hours after the meal because they impede iron absorption.

Hello Dr. Klaper, my wife has normal Hb, normal CBC, normal RBC, normal Hct, normal MCV, but her Ferritin was at 11 mg/dL, from what I’ve learned lower ferritin is not a major concern and may actually reduce disease risk? Just curious what your opinion was on this? I hope you can advise.

I have same at the moment it feels awful. You need to be above ferritin 30. But even 20 will feel a lot better than 10. But if she’s hovering low but reasonably stable or really slow decline the floradix he recommends is worth a try. Along with some concertâtes efforts on beans and legumes with vit c.

Best food for low iron IS MEAT, LIVER and SHELLFISH!!! Take with fresh lemon in water> you need vitamin C to obsorb iron and also look into B12 testing. seriously!! sea dr berg vids on low iron. look up carnvore diet see dr ken berry, shawn baker md podcast, home steak how, nutrition with judy (she was a vegan for 12 years got very sick and also ended up with an eating disorder swtiched to canviore and healed her body), steak and butter gal (she was a vegan for 6 years and ended up sick switch to a carnivore diet and healed), kelly hogan (she lost 100 pounds healed her body) MEAT, FISH, SHELL FISH, EGGS, DAILY HEAL THE BODY!!

Is Vit C from citrus inherently better than Vit C from say bell peppers regarding the enhancement of iron absorption from dark leafy greens?

It's not fresh anymore. Will have hardly any Vitamin C left, if any. Eat fresh tomato instead! 🙂

The Floradix that was mentioned in the video is not Vegan due to honey listed on the label. So be careful if you are a vegan individual.

Came here to say the same. The tablet version has bees wax and the liquid version has honey in 😩 Frustrating, as it would surely be easy for them to make it vegan-friendly

UPDATE: just found they do have a vegan version. Packaging looks almost identical, but says no gluten and no yeast on front and small 'vegan' label on top right corner 👍

Hey I’m a huge fan of the information and the channel. I wanted to add the perspective of an LGBT vegan into this conversation. we can use language like “menstruating/non-menstruating person” in place of male/female in cases where we discuss the medical or dietary impact of menstruation. Not only is this language more accurate and specific to the relevant science, but it is more inclusive to trans followers. Men can have periods and plenty of women don’t menstruate at all for a whole host of reasons and so being as specific as we can goes a long way to welcome them into our dialogue.

When talking about medical issues and dietary needs, that’s when it’s especially important to be specific and biologically-correct and use the terms male and female. Because the considerations are different. When talking about such serious topics around medicine and health, that’s not the time to be inclusive, swapping terminology so that people don’t get offended. That’s the time to be straight up and specific. Trans-people know what sex they are biologically, and should appreciate having medical and dietary information that corresponds with their actual biology, not their mental identity.

A menstruating man? lost me there? a man with a womb and ovaries? you mean the rare case of someone having both sets of reproductive organs... ..and chooses to present as a man? Obviously women who are not menstruating will not be concerned about loss of iron via their cycle.

Liver iron is dangerous, liver has way too much iron and it’s especially bad for men. Iron toxicity is way more dangerous than low iron.
