Excellent advice. A couple of things I would offer that have helped me are 1.) practice recovery shots. How far does that low running shot from under the trees run with an 8 iron? How about with a 6? How much loft do I need to be sure to get the ball out of thick sticky rough? 2.) In my part of the world, very few driving ranges and even fewer golf courses have practice bunkers and the only way to practice bunkers shots is on the course. I will go out for 9 holes at times when the course isn’t busy and drop a ball into the rough and a bunker and practice those shots. One thing we can learn from the pros is that while they do hit bad shots, they are very good with recovery shots. Very key for us higher handicappers to reliably get out of trouble and avoid the big crooked numbers that wreck our cards. Take a deep breath. Play a high percentage shot. Take the medicine, limit the damage and move on. This takes considerable mental discipline and where talking to yourself and being your own caddy can really help.

I would agree with all of your additions there Robert. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and of course for watching the video. Brian

Fitzy, Your lower the score series is a master class in sensible good golf. Many thanks for this . I don't think it is negative in any way. When I play the shots "I know I can play" I am a lot less stressed and the results are, more often than not, ones I am happy with and I can see clearly how to improve them. When I play "hero" golf I am normally disappointed. Those 280 yards drives are normally 100 yards in the trees. Those 20yard rescue fades with the 3 irons never come off and it is rare I hit that 10ft window through the trees. Keep up the good work...

Thank you so much for that feedback Steve. I really appreciate your kind words. I look forward to hearing about your lower scores. As I said on a previous video the biggest factor getting in the way of lower scores is EGO.If we can get rid of that it opens a new door to lower scores. You sound like you are on the right track now.

Great work Jesse. If you keep that idea at the forefront of your mind you will definitely lower your golf score. I did not get to the course to watch it live. I have done that in the past and didn't get to see much at all. I did my viewing on TV. Thank you for your wishes and the same to you. Brian

Thanks Brian for another great year of golf videos. My new goal for 2020 is to get a couple of lessons and play to my 27 (26.5) hcp using that plan. It seems so much easier when you break it down to double bogies and bogies.

Thanks @Old Man Golf I have enjoyed making them. Everything gets easier when we break them into small steps. Climbing 10 foot on to a roff fells difficult. If we build a series of 12 inch steps it's very easy. It really is the best way to lower your score. Let me know how it goes. I'm really interested to follow your progress. Brian

Fitzy, great tip there in google earth. I can confirm it works on iPhone also. Just mapped out your course (Morack) for next Monday. Which reminds me I need to book!! Cheers, Cam

Thanks for that Cam. I appreciate the research. Have fun at Morack on Monday. It is not the easiest of public courses. If you see me coaching in my range bay say a quick Hi. Brian

Do you alter anything to account for different sloped lies? eg If I align & aim clubface to target, on a downhill sloping away lie where will the ball go?
@fitzygolfpro4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question Darren. If you are talking about a down hill lie. I would not alter your alignment of club face or body for this shot. I would play the ball slightly further back in your stance. Depending on the severity of the slope. A couple of ball widths back. If you are talking about the ball below your feet I would align both slightly left (assuming you are right handed). I hope this helps.

I should have yelled that out to them :-) Ha ha. In all honesty I didn't even see them or the agro magpie until I started editing the footage. I hope you have a great 2020 Frank.
