The shocks not returning are normal. The springs are supposed to do the returning.

Yup. They are supposed to dampen the impact, not bounce back because that would be doing the opposite of it's purpose :P

If they are gas filled, they should return by themselves. If they are only hidraulic, they won't return by themselves.

There are high pressure and low pressure gas shocks. The low pressure is just to keep the damping fluid from boiling/foaming it won’t push them back. Only the high pressure shocks push back. The springs push back, the shock just provides rebound damping. They might be a touch leaky but they are fine.

You could also just heat up the loaded spring to get right height. Though not safe for racing or experiments

Lowering springs are 200 dollars. I bought a car with cut springs and it was extremely dangerous on the highway. The thing would dart randomly with no warning. Had to stay under 60mph.

Sometimes you even want dampeners to retract, they get tuned to a wide range of rebound characteristics. No return is probably better for lowering as it wont add preload which would raise the car slightly.

The Rears will be fine once they are paired with the SPRING... thats why the fronts return.

try to rebuild the rear shock by drilling hole into it and refill it using engine oil or hydraulic oil. after that test the shock, should be a fun project to do and experiment.

I think you’d be interested in looking up how an actuator works. Your idea would be like that minus the drilling. A piston is enclosed and works on controlled oil flow. Drilling it would destroy it. I essentially they are not made to be serviced. If the seal or cylinder wall is damaged (usually through corrosion) and oil bypasses then they are for the bin

Sam! Look up some rear Volkswagen bug shocks from any year really. You may have to press in different bushings in the mount holes but they are the exact shocks

The shocks are fine bro the just need priming up by pumping the shaft once u feeling resistance while pumping it means it’s fine

those shocks are fine if they feel firm. not all shocks extend like your thinking. most cheap absorbers are emulsion not IFP shocks.

He should weld in built in jack stands so they can lift the car up to make clearance for the big jack stand, another cool thing is to buy one that is controlled by a 12v motor so they can connect it to the car battery and add a switch somewhere to control it.

I'm not trying to roast or be mean but I read some of the comments and I sure hope nobody is treating this channel like it is anything educational, nearly every video there is something that Sam doesn't hesitate to pretend he is an expert on but in reality has no idea what he's talking about so please take what he says with a grain of salt because jumping to conclusions will nearly always catch you out. Boy can drive though when he's having fun, just needs to stop looking for reasons or excuses for his short comings in competition and just enjoy what he's doing because he ends up overthinking and going down the wrong path and creating more work for himself a lot of the time. As a fellow ADHD enjoyer I know what its like and I know it can be done, just relax bud and you will get there.
