Actually there is a style with zerg fights mech building hydra&lurkers. The idea is vipers blind tanks and h&l charges into mech. Lurkers became viable because of their splash, fast borrow and range.

I think this video showed exactly why zerg is at a bad place vs mech (I think the main problem is BC). We can clearly see Mech is not OP for the pro's and I have always been a firm believer in "just get better, scrub!" mentality. I play both terran and zerg and I gotta say it feels pretty freaking good to play mech vs zerg and on the other hand it feels god-awful to play vs mech as zerg. The reason why I think BC is the problem is because of how unbelievably forgiving it is. I feel like the BC rush is killing 4-8 drones no matter what and the BC is for all intents and purposes going to survive and come back with full hp + yamato cannon and have practically infinite value. With enough dead space on the map the only real option is to counter attack and do more damage than the BC or have enough air units to actually kill a BC before it can yamato and teleport away. This problem compounds with hellion run-by's and potential nukes, hellbat drops, and ranged liberators. Pro's can juggle all of this most of the time and have a game vs the meching terran with superior tempo but as we can see some of the lower ranked players are having problems with this. I really think the sc2 team should really take another look at how they balance their game across all skill levels and not just the best 50 or so players in the world. TLDR: Early BC's are too forgiving of an opener that requires specific defenses that are obsolete vs anything else just to deflect (not shut down) the BC's while getting poked out by Yamato cannons.

Feel like this video absolutely shows Zerg has to outplay Terran to win vs mech. Lurkers aren't good, Broodlords aren't good, Ultras aren't good, even Hydras are called 'meh'. So Zerg needs to use high micro units like infestor/viper/muta that can easily get wiped with any misplay, while also out expanding and out macroing Terran. And then it's a surprise when Terran can hit expansions easier when Zerg has to expend more APM on both micro and macro just to stay even.

The funny thing is? Most Bio Terrans I've heard from make the same statement RE: micro about Zerg. "If you can't split a Marine ball into 8 pieces before the Ling/Bane ball collides, while having all Tanks/Libs perfectly lined up, you lose the whole army at once." The biggest weakness of a solid Mech army is slowness. If you want to fight Thor/Hellbat head on with, say, Roach/Hydra and can't get the Vipers in place to take care of the Tanks in the back? At the very least, a-move some Adrenal Lings around the other side of the map to the Terran's mining bases as the fight starts. You're never going to get dropped by a Mech Terran the same frequency as with Bio, so do your own 2-pronged strikes if the Viper micro is too much. At worst he splits off Hellbats to respond and you get a better engagement vs the expensive Thors, at best you cut the economy in half and stop him from auto-remaxing.

He doesn't really do any double pronged harrass. As a terran player, this is one of the most difficult things to deal with against zerg because lings are so fast and banes are cost inefficient but they do so much damage they almost always get the base. If he can keep the aggression and have the terran struggling to move the mech army around he had this game in the bag.
