I followed this video for my 2006 Lexus GX470. With the exception of the electronics on the GX strut, it was perfect. Using a new 20v impact gun made all the difference in the world. Great video. Thanks

This is great. I tried to do it the other day after watching the vidd. I got a little concerned when the sway bar tie rod (with the 6 mill Allen head shaft) didn’t come right out like in the vidd. I had to tap on it and it felt like it was under pressure the whole time so I almost got it out then aborted the mission and put the wheel back on. TODAY, after reviewing the vidd again, I’m gonna go all the way. At worse case, I can pop loose the sway bar and slowly limp down to the tire and wheel shop a mile away.
@ddog7077 жыл бұрын
Done! Take your time and think about all the angles and pressure points. As far as taking out the sway bar tie rod, just jack up on the lower A arm until bolt torque/pressure is loosened, it then slides right out. Also keep that jack under there so you can regulate up and down spring tension to remove bolts. Every thing else is on point other than removing air box. As stated above tho, not every vehicle will need this. Thanks guys

Is it a myth then that you should torque suspension components to spec when it's on the ground? I heard it's not a good idea to torque while the suspension is unloaded as it can cause warping of the bushings

I like the torque specs given in this video!

Should also Strongly Recommend that you use differential drop and sway bar drop kits and possibly new upper control arms that offset the angle for the upper ball joint for proper alignment and handling. You can get it aligned good, but the handling because of the camber will be like driving a go-kart. Great video though to show beginners how to properly do this!

is a lift necessary or can you get it high enough on jack stands?
@lowrangeoffroad18 жыл бұрын
Although, I have not done this lift on jack stands personally, I believe it is totally doable. It just would not be quite as convenient as a lift and you'd need to get you rig as high as you could. Thanks, for watching and commenting.

Planning to do this on '06 Lexus GX470. Is it any different from 4Runner or the same? I understand GX has shocks with electrical connectors, but are there some other differences?
@lowrangeoffroad17 жыл бұрын
The the GX470 are essentially the same, the spring rates maybe different though. You are correct on the Electrical Connectors, also you must know if your Vehicle has KDSS. I have seen others lift there Vehicle with the KDSS system we are working on learning the in's and out's of the KDSS system. But as far as the rest of the install this video will help you out. How much lift does this provide? 3"?
@lowrangeoffroad18 жыл бұрын
The amount of lift on this particular 08 4Runner was as follows when measured from the wheel well of the fender to the ground: The front went from 32-7/8" to 37" (an Increase of 4-1/8") the rear went from 35-1/8" to 38-7/8" (an increase of 3-3/4"). The front ended up about 1-7/8" higher than the rear but that is because the owner wanted to be able to carry some cargo and perhaps a roof top tent in the future. He reports the ride quality is much improved over the original suspension. Keep in mind that with this OME lift you have a lot of options that allow for personal preference as to how much lift you end up with. If you want a 3" lift, we can come pretty close in advising you on which parts to buy. Let us know if we can help you. Log on to Lowrangeoffroad.com or call us at 801-805-6644. is it necessary to remove air assembly?
@lowrangeoffroad17 жыл бұрын
Good question. No, it is optional. If you can remove the inside nut from the wheel well, you should be fine. Our nuts and studs were a bit rusty and we were concerned about rounding up the nut. So we removed the air cleaner assembly and came at it from under the hood. This allowed us to use a 6 point socket and an impact on that one nut. Much less risk of rounding up the upper shock mount nuts this way. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

We like to test as many of our products as we can so we do some installations. But, we don't generally do installs for the public. Sorry. However, we do supply the parts and would be happy to assist you with any of your needs.

For the shock nut why should it be such a high torque at 100flb? The manual says 70flb on the 4Runner forum online.
@lowrangeoffroad17 жыл бұрын
If we are reading things right, the Toyota service manual says 100 ft. lbs. Perhaps you could share a link with us on the 4Runner forum you use. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Removing the air cleaner assy. on the pass. side is a colossal waste of time on a 2015 4Runner. All you need is a s-type wrench to reach the 3 strut nuts from inside the wheel well. "Educational" videos such as this one is why I take most KZbin self-help videos with a grain of salt.
@lowrangeoffroad18 жыл бұрын
Your point is well taken. And there have been times when we have taken the approach you are suggesting. However, in this case the nuts and studs were very rusty and using a 6 point socket with an impact wrench from under the hood really helped out. Plus, it allowed us to torque the inside nut to factory spec which is very difficult from under the wheel well. Thanks for watching and commenting.
