Love the giant Toilet Paper Roll holder! I need that in my bathroom! I might actually really make something like this for the Bathroom just as a joke to anyone who ever uses our Bathroom! One of these right next to an identical smaller regular toilet paper roll holder thingy would make me laugh a bit every time I see it.

Thanks! That wall mounted "panel saw" deal has become one of the most useful things I have in the shop! I amended the description to include links to two printable parts used in the making of it!

I like the track saw with the 608 bearings! I could also see a French cleat on the back side of that towel holder for a wall mount option. Thanks again for sharing.

thanks for the video. Your very good at clearly describing the method. I was looking around for ideas on how to get into cnc with a budget, and this seems viable. My main goal would be to mill foam wing cores for a vacuum bagged wing, and to see if I could make some moulds too. I was also wondering how accurate is your set-up? Can you cut aluminum? What was the total cost? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, subbed for more 😎👍

Hey, thanks for the excellent questions! There are LowRiders already being used for the very thing you are mentioning, cutting foam to make wings for planes. Most LowRiders are controlled using the same type of control board often used for 3-D printing. So that gives you a sense of what kind of accuracy is possible. To get good dimensional accuracy, you want to make sure that your gantry is squared with the parallels and perpendiculars, trammed to the table, which is best accomplished by doing a resurfacing of the spoil board, and squared by measuring the diagonals and making adjustments to get dimensional accuracy, all checked in advance. Assuming a LowRider is put together properly, which yields sufficient rigidity, you should be able to get very good results. In addition to checking diagonals and adjusting to get squareness, you can also check travel distance in X and Y, and adjust for dimensional accuracy, using the same method as done for 3-D printing, which is to adjust the E-steps. You can find tons of great videos on these machines in action, and yes, they can cut aluminum! In fact, there are videos showing the LowRider cutting steel!

@@amonus-air2160 Cool. I now have two LowRider v3's. One carries a router, and runs on a huge CNC-cut table big enough for full 4x8 sheets, and the other carries a plasma torch, and lets me cut steel or other metal up to 2+ x 4+ feet. I built my first table without benefit of a LowRider, but I now recommend those new to it to "bootstrap" a table by building the LowRider and use it with sheets stacked on the floor to cut parts for a torsion box table. Both myself and Ryan (founder of V1 Engineering) have provided parametric driven table plans via Fusion 360. I cut my new table top based on my own plans and used shims to attach the new torsion box on top of my existing table! LowRider is the best, and most affordable, way to get such a powerful machine, capable of such huge cutting areas!

Is there any chance that the router get too hot with longer machining?
@design8studio
@design8studio Жыл бұрын
The Makita is air cooled. If you run it at a low speed while cutting very deeply (heavy load) it can burn it up. If you run at an appropriate faster speed and do reasonable depth so the load is not bad it will be fine. I know this from experience.

How many hours would you reckon this project requires to be functional?
@design8studio

Are you referring to building a LowRider version 3 CNC? If so, the time it takes will vary from person to person, based on everything ranging from shipping times, 3D printing times, and how much spare time you have for engaging with the build.

Hi what firmware are you running on the screen looks better than the one i have currently!😊
@design8studio
@design8studio Жыл бұрын
It is an older firmware that is I think a combination of Marlin firmware from V1 Engineering, combined with some graphics for the buttons that came from some other firmware I downloaded. It’s pretty easy to add updated graphics to your existing Marlin touchscreen firmware. I can maybe package up a zip file with these graphics and share a link.

@@design8studio Does this need to be flashed to the TFT? The current screen I have, with V1 recommended screen is for a printer, while you seem to have other options. I am not sure if I have flashed wrong or if thats just the way it is, perhaps you can upload a link to the firmware flash file?

@@ptdisc My LowRider firmware is somewhat dated. While I did share it with folks for a while, Ryan of V1 Engineering encouraged me to refrain because the newer firmware has some bug fixes, as I understand. If you are just looking to re-skin the interface with my button images, the above link I shared (Zip of "bmp" folder in my Marlin firmware for the TFT35) can be dropped into an editable version of the TFT firmware in the appropriate spot, and then flashed to give you this look.
