So for coyote you charge for port work LS you did not. For Coyote you charged for valve springs and valves for LS you did not. The intake for Coyote was full retail at summit yet LS intake got a $1600 "customer discount" not the full retail price. Come on its beyond a joke at this point

As already stated, many aftermarket LS heads come complete with port jobs, valves, springs, etc. The Coyote got to use a used 2015 F-150 block while the LS used a brand new LSX block. So let's have the LS pay full price for an intake manifold and have the Coyote buy a brand new block and see who stays under budget. The only way the Coyote can compete with the LS with any sort of budget restriction is by getting a massive handicap by buying a used block compared to a new LS block. Same exact thing happened in the last LS vs Coyote shootout.

@@SomervilleMetalWorks I vaguely remember that now, you may be right. The LS builder was correct in selecting an LSX block over the LS7. Factory LS7 blocks have rather thin cylinder walls and while they make stupid power NA, they tend to come apart under high boost applications like this. I personally think the Coyote builder is insane trying to run 12.25:1 compression on ~30 pounds of boost.

For the people complaining about the block differences. A quick search on the Texas Speed shows the resleeved LS truck block with Darton sleeves at $2700. The LSX block used for this competition was $2782 at Texas Speed. So really it was just a matter of choice by the builder because the resleeved LS truck blocks with Darton sleeves have been shown to handle the power levels I'd expect an F1x procharger to support in this test.

If there was a choice I guaran-damn-tee MRP wouldn’t be modifying factory parts either. But you know was well as I do they don’t get a choice because there isn’t an alternative unlike the LS engine. Thanks to the LS’s engineering simplicity and 22 year history it gets to enjoy vast aftermarket support. Don’t like it? Blame Ford. The Coyote is well engineered but much more complex than the LS. That complexity makes aftermarket re-engineering too costly and so no matter the lifespan your power plant enjoys you’ll never have the aftermarket the LS has. The next generation of GM V8’s are going overhead cam more than likely and they’ll suffer the same fate. Get over it wipe the shit off your knob.

I could get past the obvious apples and oranges of a huge pushrod vs a high flowing 4VOHC, but seriously, you've hamstrung the coyote so badly by doing the dyno testing with Holley. The reason the coyote is such a beast is in the tuning and the ability to wring out every ounce of power across every rpm. The dyno testing you're doing was around when the Egyptians were in charge. At least let them manage the engine the way it was designed. The whole "we don't do computers" crap just sends you guys over the edge as LS homers and why I won't subscribe to the channel or watch your other content.

I really am curious as to why they aren't using the vvt technology on the coyote. the vvt is what gives the factory coyote such a huge powerband without sacrificing peak numbers. in a competition where area under the power curve counts for so many points why would you throw away such a huge advantage?
@angreygt3508
@angreygt3508 5 жыл бұрын
Colton Robinson its more to do with simplifying the tune. For race and extreme street applications, vvt for making good power is less crucial and you're less concerned about old school lopey idle. They fix the imrc plates usually too. My biggest problem is that they're using some bandaid Holley engine management rather than a Ford ECU to manage the motor. This is almost certainly a limitation of the engine dyno shop and most of the tuning advantages that have been learned by the various tuners involves the modern Ford management with speed density, lambda values, etc. I'm afraid they're gonna leave a bunch of performance on the table because of a new/different engine management that's antiquated.

The LS’ advantage come in junkyard availability and the Gen IV truck engine’s ability to handle some basic 700rw combos with decent reliability. As power climbs beyond that the LS becomes exponentially more and more expensive. To make 2000+ HP the 4V Fords have always been able to get there more cheaply than the LS platform. @@jmitchell513 Opinions differ and it's pretty common to take GM 5.3 aluminum block and resleeve it to achieve the same 427" combo they did here. In many cases a darton sleeved LS truck block is actually more expensive than the iron LSX block they used for this competition. So lets not pretend it's stock vs aftermarket when it was just a matter of choice of the engine builder to choose which route to take when building this motor with a $15g limit. Could have easily sleeved a truck block as well and stayed under budget. I kind of wish that is the route they went to eliminate the Ford excuses. $15g budget limit makes it as fair as you can and obviously there are a lot of different routes they could go within that budget on an engine build.

It'll make just as much power as these engines. Just pulley it to spin the blower at the right speed to move the air density needed. We know Gen 4 LS rods will handle the sort of cylinder pressures nessecary to make that power number at around 6500rpm. torque curve will probably be about flat.

There are some GM faithful in here playing the same old tune..."Our parts catalog motor is a "stock LS and the modular Ford is a rule breaker because it's sleeved"! WTF. LS gnats just remember this. When Engine Masters put out these rules for the Boosted LS vs the Boosted Coyote there were no LS applications received. NO TAKERS! There should have been. The rules gave the LS 6.2 liters and the Ford had to come in at 5.0 liters. I guess that the fabulous LS just did not like its "rule break" or BOP allowance enough for the GM crowd to take up the challenge. And for the GM guys that do not know what BOP means it means Balance of Performance. Every form of motorsport that GM competes in with its pushrod engine (except NASCAR) has BOP allowances in place to make the otherwise outclassed GM rod kicker competitive. Cheap and plentiful does not = Best.

BOP is attacked in many ways, not just 2 valve vs 4 valve fuqtard, In endurance racing BMW/Porche/Ford/GM etc. etc. might have a higher/lower weight limit or get more/less fuel, or have higher/lower rpm limit. In drag racing differing bore centers can get weight breaks, or get more boost, different power adders are limited to different boost levels and NOS might get a weight break, the type of supercharger is limited in size or no screws are allowed, or no high helix, So no you are wrong BOP isn't just for GM its for everyone and its to make the entire year competitive and come down to the last few races if possible, that gets most viewers and most sponsorship dollars.

I think at some point the cam timing and lift get so out of hand you have an interference issue with intake and exhaust being open at the same time, the more lift and duration the less room you have to move timing until you get to a point where its not possible. In this situation though i think the Holley controller might be the problem explicitly.

The problem is that Chevy makes 2 million engines under the designation of “LS”. So the Chevy guys can pick the most outlandish version of the LS that has the most displacement and power as possible and say “yeah it’s way better than the coyote in every single way.” Ford only makes two versions of the coyote, one for the mustang and one for the trucks. If the 5.2 engine in the gt350 was called a coyote engine and used for this build it would put the LS in its place easily. But since the 5.2 isn’t called a coyote, it’s not allowed in the competition

The budget thing is on my nerves. You’re comparing a 427 cubic inch aftermarket block and heads, to a stock block and head 302?! Money doesn’t grow on trees but when you have a more advanced modern motor it’s going to cost more. I’m no fanboy of any brand just a car guy but this is crazy. Even GT350 heads would be more competitive. LS engines are cheap that’s well known, but part for part the coyote is very competitive. Just overall annoyed with the unlevel playing field. Displacement is way outta wack, aftermarket block doesn’t add power but noted, aftermarket heads (bad ass ones too). Just very lopsided. It would be tragic if the LS didn’t win

SnifferSock correct part for part. The LS is already known to be the cheapest dollar per hp that’s no surprise. Everyone knows that. “You can get a 5.3 from a junkyard” etc etc.... what’s more interesting and informative is how it compares part for part. You can share how much each engine costs at the end but it’s just an easier analysis. LS is the cheapest hands down. Not everyone wants the cheapest though. I’d say use the same limits on parts like hydraulic rollers, certain super charger, displacement range, etc. price is important so don’t exclude that but again I want to see what each engine does mod for mod.

A lot of people are complaining about the LS being over specced compared to the Coyote, and while that's true (sort of....I'll explain) the fact is, it is a 15 grand for 15 grand shootout and considering what has been said in this video in particular, the Coyote doesn't have the aftermarket like the Chevy LS so prices are going to be more competitive for the LS stuff and the fact is has only 1 cam and 2valves per cylinder does also take away cost (but it would have been interesting to see what the Coyote would do with some worked over voodoo head on it but like it was said, just wasn't in the budget) I suppose what we should of had happend was a Chevy LS vs Ford Modular shoot out rather than just the Coyote

@9:34 So you're saying that using oem bearings in a build like this is a no no because of the precision clearances? It's funny how in all of these build videos no one talks about bearing choices, tri-metal (copper/lead/tin) vs oem style bi-metal (aluminum/silicon.) From what I know bi-metal bearings will last a lot longer, but all aftermarket bearing manufacturers say you shouldn't use these in a build above 500 horsepower, yet the LS9, LSA, Hemis all have bi-metal bearings. I'd like to hear what pro engine builders have to say about this. Is this true, or is it just a marketing ploy?

Vic Rizzo it depends on the Tune After eclipsing 1,200 hp, we kept going. Raising the boost beyond 27 psi resulted in what we suspect was an ignition failure. The motor was still in perfect shape internally and worked well up to 26 psi, but unfortunately we were out of available dyno time. The motor survived more than 60 runs, the majority of them more than 1,000 hp. We hammered this motor like we stole it, with repeated back-to-back pulls, but the little LS never missed a beat and was ready for more. Then something dawned on us after pulling it off the dyno: 5.3s don’t come with flat-top pistons (we know the few exceptions). Combine this with the fact that this combination produced peak power at 7,000 rpm, and we started to suspect that it might not be a 5.3 after all. Off came the oil pan and sure enough, connected to those flat-tops was set of 121 connecting rods and a crank that featured a casting number of 12553482. That’s right, this 1,203hp 5.3 was actually a 4.8L. That’s just 294 ci for a stunning 4.09 hp/ci. The longevity of the combination is still in question, but having survived about 60 pulls under big boost means it could easily run a full season at the strip,

I agree that it's a weird comparison. In my opinion the 5.0 should have been put up against a 6.2 ls3 but then again no need to get all wild and wish the opposing side to die because you dont agree. All in all the same amount of money was spent. Just not sure why we are comparing a corvette motor against a gt motor. I think there should have been some better rules at the get go. I know the price wouldnt allow it but we should be comparing an ls7 against a voodoo If anything.

The scoring system seems flawed, but I don't care to get fully vested in this argument as I care more about results from cars vs dyno's. So from a non-expert view, but in general the 2nd criteria seems like automatic 3 points for LS. The 3rd criteria is automatic 2 points for Coyote and it feels like a handicap for Coyote. I could tell from watching the LS build episode that the previous NA video series was just to prove their bias. The guys was slobbering all over the LS blocks?? Seems like the fix will always be in unless the contest includes someone that is an advocate of both types. The guy should say "full disclosure -- I love LS motors and I want LS to win" that way there's at least some credibility.

The shame of it is we were stuck with shyt 302/305 and tp350 for years... Ford had a great thing right in their hands till Chevy swooped in and modernized it. Ford has had their hand in alot of inoovative stuff and then abandon it, one of their most glaring shortcomings. Their engine lines are not the easiest to follow and it's continued to today, right back to pushrod for fleet trucks. Gm meanwhile could have blessed us with a 18/15 degree V8 how long ago? With minor changes to production blocks. As good as the Ls/Lt platforms have been and developed that still pisses me off. Ford should take the best attributes of their entire line of engines and hybrid them into 1 engine. Both GM/Ford should develop their DOHC v8 into v10/12 too. GM should adapt Ls/Lt heads to the BBC, the cam vvt, DI and whatever else from the platform for their rumored over 8 liter fleet engine being developed. Coincidence they coming out with BB tytpe engines about the same time for the same basic purpose?
