Futurama does share the same kind of deep thinking and predictive logic that Simpsons has. One of my favorites is the joke about the self driving car that hits a robot walking on the curb. So the reason the Hulu Futurama seasons exist, and the reason why King of the Hill is coming back on Hulu, actually just boils down to Disney/Fox looking at their long-running series, and being like “why are we not making more Futurama? we like $$$” Kinda sad, if you think about it.

I bet it's the same reason why Family Guy's recent holiday specials went straight to Hulu. The Simpsons episodes "O C'mon All Ye Faithful Parts 1 and 2," on the other hand, premiered exclusively on Disney+ on December 17, 2024 instead of Hulu just because Disney knows The Simpsons is an icon which they use to their advantage.

Plus Fox in the past was known for premiering new Futurama episodes at bad timeslots making it hard to keep up with the show, especially before the whole streaming age. Fox likes to blame Futurama as having "poor ratings viewership" being what caused the show's original cancellation/hiatus period on August 10, 2003 when it was the network themselves that caused that to happen with it's ackward schedule for episode premieres. At least the show seams to be doing better now that it can't get screwed over by timeslots anymore.

to explain the title for In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela, it's a reference to the song In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly, which was originally supposed to be called In The Garden Of Eden but they were so drunk and high while writing it that it got written down wrong and they just kinda rolled with it (yes, really). The reason for the Hulu/ Wikipedia episode count discrepancy is because Hulu used the broadcast order, while Wikipedia use the production order, which is also shared with the DVDs… of course Fox broadcasted the episodes out of production order (Although this was a common practice for The Simpsons at the time, it may have been seen as inconsequential at the time) After the 2007-2009 feature length episodes, they were divided into four parts each for broadcast making a sixth broadcast season. The DVDs don’t count it as a season, but streaming services and everything else typically count the segmented episodes as a season. Then the Comedy Central era had both seasons containing 26 episodes but some sources (like the DVDs) use the mid-season hiatus as a division for even more seasons. The Hulu revival have, so far, had it’s season-episode count consistent. So depending on what list you are looking at, the first 14 years of Futurama will usually be said to have between 7-10 seasons. (There are 8 seasons on DVD)
@andykishore2 күн бұрын
The List of American Dad! episodes Wikipedia page also has season number discrepancies issues. Apparently, even the creators themselves and Disney+ are unsure about the amount of seasons American Dad! has due to interviews contradicting the order used on streaming services.

If I remember right, Bender has shown interest in being a folk singer. In the second episode of the series we learn that magnets make him sing as a folk singer. The exchange goes Fry: So you flip out and start acting like some crazy folk singer? Bender: Yes. I guess a robot would have to be crazy to wanna be a folk singer. [He gazes upwards sadly.] One can view this as Bender wanting to be a folk singer but only if it is a choice on his end. Not something that he is forced to be via something like magnets. I will admit it is odd that it took them that long (season 7 from a season 1 episode) to call back to that moment. Also Lrrr's kid has existed this whole time. In the episode where the people of earth were unknowingly eats them. I believe the kid in that season 7 episode is the same one that made Leela realize they were eating babies.

Reincarnation (1:53:39) is probably in my personal top 20 episodes and I love the detail that each new animation style intentionally hides the main discovery. The black&white rubberhose style hides the "new color" the comet creates, the so retro artstyle hides the "exquisite detail" of the start of the universe, and the snappy/low budget old-school anime style hides the dance that is "so complex the eye can barely follow it"

Actually, I really liked the Mystery Liberry. It impressed me and was very inventive. I also liked the Cuteness episode, How the West was 1010001, and the Silicon and Gold episode. I think the Hulu era is actually pretty good. It's not the funniest but it's a lot more creative with the sci-fi and embraces pretty unique ideas. I do agree that the Prince and the Product is really bad. I hated that episode.

Omg this unlocked a forgotten memory, Naturama was my first and only episode I watched funnily enough and I was SO confused. I wrote the show off entirely because of it and honestly had no interest in it until this vid, but I might give it another shot, at least the first 4 season. Great vid too btw lol

One issue i have with the Hulu series is that they did the thing many shows do where they talk about stuff they that is relevant in real life or i guess in their case wad relevant during the time they were off the air. Some shows I get like South Park since that's their thing, but Futurama doesn't make sense to partly because they're in the future. I genuinely rolled my eyes at the nft episode, and I took a break from watching and later came back. I was really glad the nft stuff wasn't the main focus in the episode.

The episode with Leela and Zap Brannigan in the Bible is pronounced "In a gah-duh de Leela", it's a reference to this Iron Butterfly song called "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", which is how a drunk person would say "In the Garden of Eden". The song is well-known because it's over 17 minutes long, and is considered one of the first heavy metal songs, and one of the first progressive rock songs.

Season 6 Episode 7 had a line in it that made me laugh harder than it should have. For context when the Crew went forward into the future enough to enter a new universe they killed the originals of that universe by accident. **Leela waiting for Fry to show up to the date** Leela: I have to admit, I was afraid you wouldn't make it. Fry: That was the old Fry. He's dead now.

I grew up watching this show on Adult Swim and Comedy Central. I consider Futurama to be to The Simpsons as how American Dad is to Family Guy. Ie, the better, but less popular show. If Futurama had ended with Season 4, it would definitely be remembered as one of the all time greats, cut down in its prime. I enjoyed the direct to video movies, i know some people have mixed feelings on them and while i don't think they're as good as the original run, they're pretty entertaining and I'm glad that we got more Futurama. Personally i consider the Comedy Central run to be as good as the original run. There's a few meh episodes, i know people like to bash on the eyephone episode, but i feel like its pretty relevant episode even today. People always get obssessed over new tech, and i think the eye phone in this is kind of a neat idea how it comes out of your eye. And of course, we have great episodes like the Great Phillip J Fry and the best finale, Meanwhile. Personally i was happy for the show to end there, and even liked it as the perfect conclusion. Especially since if you watched it the first time on Comedy Central, the pilot played next, hinting that things had started over. I haven't watched the Hulu Run, but from what I've seen and heard its a mixed bag. I think the topical stuff looks bad, because it doesn't seem like they do a lot to actually futurize these concepts. Its just commenting on stuff that was going on at the time, covid, nfts, bitcoin. Feels lazy, when we know they can tackle modern concepts while giving it a futuristic twist. Hopefully we'll get better episodes in the future
@mechajay33582 күн бұрын
This is how I would sum up the Futurama series: _Fox Seasons:_ A solid run with some classic episodes and strong writing. _Direct to Video Movies/Comedy Central Seasons:_ A mixed bag with some good episodes and not some not-so-good. _Hulu Seasons:_ A couple of lackluster episodes with a very few that are actually solid.

Honestly, for most of the hulu seasons, I kept asking myself out loud "Who is this made for" and I just can't shake the feeling that like it doesn't feel right like it's not written the same way, the characters feel off almost like they're entirely different with just small scraps of their flanderization to keep them "accurate" to their character, it honestly feels kinda like they're written by ai sometimes but idk maybe I'm reaching a lil.

Futurama is my favourite show of all time. I related to Fry so much, and how he lived in a world he didn’t understand and was forced to live in it. That was similar to my worldview when I was 12, and Futurama made me feel less alone in the world.

It's wild to think other people didnt grow up watching both! Here the channels aired Futurama either right after or in between the Simpsons and I was a kinda nerdy kid so it took my interest just as much as the Simpsons tbh, but it was sadly aired way less!! We had Simpsons reruns on every night from 6-8 and then a new episode, but Futurama got like 1-2 episodes every week 😭 it was especially confusing as an adult when I found out some of the 'episodes' I watched were in fact movies and not just 3 part episodes 😂
