This got me thinking of that gigaleak that happened a few years back. Reportedly only 3 gigabytes of the 2 terabytes retrieved was released to the public, so I'm VERY interested in that as a lost media case and whether or not it's even retrievable or was destroyed before being able to be released to the public.

Great explanation about the Azure Flute! A fun fact about events from gens 1-5: The events that are unlocked with an item and involves dialogue, new areas, etc. are already in the game files from release. You're not receiving an item and downloading a whole new area, the distribution just ticks a flag in the save file that tells the game to give the player the required item. Just like how Claire won't give you the 8th badge if you trade a Pokemon that's holding a dragon fang. The actual story/event flag for her to give you the badge is only triggered when you pick it up from the Dragon Den. That's why Pokemon map randomisers can send you to these areas that contain mythical Pokemon, the GS ball still is in the ORIGINAL Western release of Crystal and accessible through action replay or save editors, action replay codes can enable these events and ticking event flags for your save into a save editor will give you access to these items and areas. They're already programmed into the game.

Maaaan, just hearing someone say "the SNES never interested me, the games never interested me" is such a gutpunch, I grew up with and TO THIS DAY by far consider it to have the best libarary of games of all times, like Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Tetris Attack, Mega Man X and 7, Lufia 2, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound and on and on and on are still all my very favorite games.

A cool reference for your Mario quiz cards. The info stored for those cards was more than likely a result of the game “Mario is missing” which released in 92. 3 years earlier. So what better way to get more money out of a lot of stored data Nintendo collected? Manufacturing of cards. Since I don’t think that Mario is missing took off like they thought. I believe they had enough data they would consider a second Mario is missing game if the first was a success.

Nintendo does publish most of their classic games which is more than can be said of Sega who predominantly just does Sega Genesis games and the most available compilation of Sega's Genesis game has shoddy emulation. You either have to find a Genesis Mini, pay Nintendo or play Yakuza games to get the decent versions of their non-Sonic games. Sega does have a few remakes for their later titles but, Nintendo has gotten far better coverage of their 2000s era to early 2010s era even going by the Switch alone. The only real advantage Sega has is that they tend to be more lax on fangames.

And some emulation and subscription issues aside, the games they’re bringing to NSO service lately have been choices I would have never seen coming from them to include ten years ago on Virtual Console. I now have to think some game as my joke “oh they’ll never port, let’s say, Iggy’s Wreckin’ Balls” cause they ported Iggy’s Wreckin’ Balls. That’s a wild inclusion I didn’t ask for but glad we have.

Oh man, I actually played Segasonic the Arcade as a kid at my local arcade! It was a huge white sit-down type cabinet and it had three trackballs. Surprisingly, the game is a lot of fun. I can see why it would be hard to port it without the trackball, the game is really frantic and you end up slapping the trackball like your life depends on it. I remember beating the desert level and reading the text "To be continued" or something and being pissed that it just ended there. Would love to play it again some day.

There has got to be someone smart enough within the Nintendo lost media fandom who could create a software that creates a 1:1 copy of every version of the QR code possible. It is a detailed QR code yes but the detail is the same on them all “Mii” so that won’t be a hangup. There are plenty of simple QR Code programs, just get someone to reverse engineer whatever software you find that creates nearly as complex a code as the Mii codes are. Obviously it’s easier said than done however people have done a lot more complex things in scary fast time on the internet when they’ve been challenged to do so.

Mario Quiz Cards were sold in a big blue laminated box decorated with SMW artwork. The box also came with a small calculator to do simple math. It was given to me as a kid and I still have it in my collection complete with all the cards and inserts

i believe the "hard to understand" part was due to the fact that you were never told how to use the azure flute in its description, unlike the member card or the letter. also, you have actual reasons to return to canalave city and route 224 after beating the game, but outside of platinum, there's no reason to ever return to spear pillar after beating the game. instructions would probably have to be provided at the event distribution site, which they probably did not want to do.

whats interesting abt the arceus thing was that, since u got it at level 100, you could only ever ev train it through vitamin items, meaning its evs were capped to 100 per stat, making it dubbed as "farceus" by the fanbase since it wasnt really at its truest potential

Those aren't getting released to the public. It would be like asking for the Super Mario 128 demo. I don't believe the Paper Mario 3DS game was even at E3, just in the presentation which would be the only accessible way of getting those. You are asking for predevelopment builds which would be only available at Intelligent Systems.

I mean, you can access the Arceus with a glitch as well, so no external cheating device needed.. but it's quite difficult. You can argue about how legitimate that truly is, but you can argue the same for someone using a privately-owned but real distribution cart after the public end of the event.

So donkey kong plus was a actual thing, i do remember seeing that video of donkey kong plus surprisingly at a mall i used to go when i was a kid back in Puerto Rico, it was at a EB Games that mall used to have and one of thd TV's always showed that gameplay, my mom did bought me mario vs donkey kong back when it came out in 2004 and i always swore that there was a gamecube version.... guess i wasnt too far off
