It's funny, but almost every space opera tv show has an episode like this. U.F.O. and ST:TNG to name a couple. Also the movie Enemy Mine. It's a trope, but it's worth repeating. When you can't afford to be enemies, sometimes you become friends, at least for a little while. I would say though, that it never seems to work out in the long run for the non-human.
@jetuber Жыл бұрын
I think this episode preceded those, though it itself has a slight precedent in ST:TOS "Arena."
@jamesmartin9401 Жыл бұрын
@jetuber U.F.O. was in 1970, but yes, certainly Arena is sort of in the same vein. They didn't become friends, but Kirk decided they didn't have to be enemies. Of course, that was only after he had the Gorn at his mercy. The original short story that episode was based on had a similar dynamic, but the set-up was quite different.

Bad writing. Though it's also true he didn't have a repair manual, and food may have made getting off that planet more of an issue. What's almost as stupid was that - as I recall - the girl/angel with the baby took a seat aboard the ship built from salvage that she wasn't going to keep, but suddenly appeared on the mountain to pronounce Starbuck officially "Good."

@@stevejordan7275 He repaired Cy when he first found him and when he’s working on him we see Starbuck flipping pages in some kind of book or manual. I love this episode, it's my favorite!! I think that the reason Starbuck didn't rebuild another Cylon,is because it wouldn't have been the same as Cy, and he didn't have the Hart to do it!! I think that the reason why he didn't use the Cylon Fighter to get back to the fleet,was because he wouldn't have been able to catch up with them,on the fuel it had, and the fleet was probably way out of range for him to reach. Not only that,it takes 2 to fly the Cylon Fighter, and he can't do it by himself. Not only that, but it might have compromised the fleet, if he tried to meet up with them. He also wouldn't have been able to contact the fleet,so they might have shot at him, thinking that he was just another Cylon Fighter, trying to attack them. Just my opinion though.
