Well, I have it in O1, 3V (both sabre ground) and AEB-L (full covex, shorter blade). You can say it is my favourite knife. Wonderful workmanship from LT Wright.

Darn, that looks cold up there. It's even cold here in Texas. Love my LT Wright GNS but mine is saber ground. Thank you for braving the cold for a video. Excellent vid....great looking and performing knife! My go-to is a Mora Bushcraft, which I just love...mainly because it only set me back 45 balloons, and yet performs like a champ. I'm just wondering if the expenditure of 4x for a knife that obviously looks WAY better, and performs...maybe better...is worth it. Would it perform better? I will say that the LT Wright is certainly more of an heirloom quality looking knife...one that I'd be proud to hand down to my grand kid, or some such.
@HighCarbonSteelLove5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and leaving your excellent comment, Dan! There is nothing wrong with the Mora Bushcraft series, as I own several. They do perform like champs. I think "worth" is subjective but I can say that there is just something about LT Wright Knives. The quality, fit and finish and durability are top notch and the company is full of very nice people. I would say that you can accomplish many of the same tasks with either knife, but there are some differences that I like about LT knives. I love their scandi grind, their 01 tool steel, the craftsmanship, comfortable handles, blade thickness and ripping sharp spines. -Dave

Nice video. Have used the GNS since I got it from Blind Horse Knives on their July 2013 monthly special (usd 115 w/sheath back then). This was the saber grind version. Recently ordered a new one by LTW, scandi grind this time. Also love the Emberlit, got the stainless version first, then the tianium later.
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, Fjell! Aside from the grind, is there much of a difference between the classic BHK GNS and new LTWK GNS? Just curious. I don't have the titanium Emberlit, but I do love using the original stainless! -Dave
@HUZ9k3s5w6 жыл бұрын
Not much difference, the new GNS from LTW have slightly longer scales (3-4mm) compared to the original model from Blind Horse Knives. The blade on the new model seems for the same reason 3-4mm shorter, but the cutting edge is about the same. Biggest difference is the sheath. The original from Blind Horse Knives ( goo.gl/JBJqks ) came in a sheath stamped with the model number 6A on the back, and the same sheath is now sold by Battle Horse knives. So you could say LTW continued the knife model, while Battle Horse Knives the sheath. Not sure who makes the new sheath for LTW, but I suspect JRE Industries [edit: ah, you said so in the this vid], certainly looks very similar when I visit the JRE homepage and look at the models there. Anyway I prefer the old sheath over the new, it is more solid and the knife more deep seated., which I prefer. Here is the Blind Horse promo for the July 2013 Special, the GNS kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zpq3ZImPrZ1-rsk . Btw I also go the Genesis in A2, like it, but I more often carry and use the GNS. Also have a hard time deciding which I like most of the Genesis and the Lars Fält Knife from Casstrom in Sweden, they are very similar....:)

Great video friend 😀🎉 That canteen is awesome! Did they make the canteen plastic to save on weight? GNS is amazing! I’m looking at an AEB-L version to buy. Everything around me is salt or brackish and it’s very very humid in the summer. Still loving my Lagom. They said they modeled the handle from an axe handle. Maybe I will just get another Lagom😂 orange g-10💪🏻 great gear! Look forward to more videos 🙂
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words, my friend! Great to hear from you! I think Nalgene was looking to make a modern day replica of the old plastic military canteens. BPA free, USA made, no plastic taste and transparent to see how much water is in there. I like it a lot. Of course I prefer stainless, but I rarely cook directly in the canteen. The orange g-10 Lagom knives look awesome! Keep me posted on your LT Wright purchases and I look forward to talking with you again soon! -Dave

HighCarbonSteel Love hey friend I learned a hack kind of to keep the Lagom in the sheath after it wears in. You put shock cord through your lanyard hole loop it under your ferro rod on the sheath👍🏻

Hi Dave, big question for you. I finally have a chance to buy the lagom bush knife. The thing is, I've really been looking at the gns and I'm just not sure. The lagom isn't made anymore, but I have a chance to perchase it. So this will be my last expensive knife. Which one would you choose??
@HighCarbonSteelLove5 жыл бұрын
Wow, tough question, Terry...haha! Actually, bensbackwoods.com just got more Lagom knives in stock. And I love the Lagom, a lot, however, I have found myself using the Kamrat Companion a bit more due to the smaller size. All that said, I really think you would enjoy the GNS. The Lagom's handle isn't for everyone and I know some people that just don't like it and/or never got used to it. The Lagom handle is a bit of it's own style, while the GNS handle is more made for 'everyone'. Its beautifully contoured and feels great in the hand. Also, its different blade size and profile make the GNS very versatile and a pleasure to use. I would consider the GNS more similar to a "woodlore" knife style and I am positive you would absolutely love it. Let me know what you go with, my friend! -Dave
@terryshrives83225 жыл бұрын
@@HighCarbonSteelLove Thank you so much for your answer Dave. Well I ended up choosing the Lagom! I must say that I absolutely love it!! I put a mirror finish on the scandi, and completely flattened it out to a true scandi. This knife stands out, and quickly became my most prized knife! Also the edge retention is outstanding!! I want to thank you for your video's and the time you spend answering 😀 I would have missed out on this Lagom, if it had not been for your time. So thank you again! Now as for my mention of it being my last expensive knife... Well I'm ordering the GNS tomorrow evening in 3V steel lol. I just couldn't help but go after it as well, and with my good blessings lately, I figured I should 😉 God bless my Friend and have a great evening!!

Sir, you have a nice wood stove which keeps a stable fire inside. My wood stove doesn't accept such thick woods so I have to prepare several thin sticks to create a fire. I only consider fatwood “cheating” if I haven’t gathered it myself. If it’s collected during one of my hikes, it’s fair game. I own both the Genesis and the GNS. Between the two, the GNS has the better blade profile for general camp duties, which would include food prep as well as wood processing. The Genesis is a great wood processor, but I find it clumsy in the kitchen. Another great video Dave. Always good to see your smiling face.

Very good looking knife considering it's not for show. I'm like you in that i don't usually use my fatwood, unless need be. But then i always have a bic or two on me when out in the woods. Better to succeed with a bic than fail with a ferro rod.

Greetings and happy New Year, my friend! I have been using the same set-up (even like colors) as your new canteen kit. The oasis rocks and it Never will hold a flavor from a prior beverage. The canteen cup from USGI is one of the best buys out there. Just two quick items: - how does cup fit on Emberlit? & - Did you try your Pathfinder cup lid on USGI? +Thanks Dave!
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
Happy New Year to you, as well, my friend! Nice to hear that you enjoy your canteen kit! The cups fits onto the Emberlit very well, as there are small cross-bars that go on top of the stove. The Pathfinder cup lid does fit onto the USGI cup and will work, however, it's not a perfect fit. I will show it in an upcoming video! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by! -Dave

I am with you on the fatwood Dave. I almost always create the properties I need out of the materials I find. It really has to be horrible conditions for me to use fatwood. I have never tried an LT knife. I have been looking at the genesis for a while but would want one in a full flat. I have become extremely picky about my knives. I have (custom knife) on the way that I think will be a perfect fit for my needs. It's kinda exciting to see how all my experiance/ trial and error has brought me to this point. I think this knife will eliminate all the things I dislike about most production knives that are out there now a days and hopefully dispell some knife myths when I shoot the video. I'm sure you will enjoy that cook set. I have one similar and love it. Have a good week my friend and happy new year to you and your family.

Adventure Time Outdoors hmmm .... you have given me food for thought my friend! I must add though...from my experience.. a full flat is not the best for bushcrafting. Just my humble opinion!
@AdventureTimeOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
Maplehouse Knives I agree %100 but when it comes to picking an all round knife I prefer a blade no wider than 1.25" 1/8 thick and in a v cross section with a distal taper. That is a beast of a carver that is also great for food prep and many other small tasks. I really have no need for a batoning knife. As I do it so rarely unless I am reviewing a knife. When I can get by cleaning a fish slicing through veggies cutting meat with out that scandi bevel causing friction in the cut. I'll take a full flat any day. When it comes to heavy wood removal or batoning I reach for my privateer or my kellam puukko. They excell at these tasks. It really comes down to what you use your tools for and your style of fire craft. I would like to pick your brain some time and chat about this more some time Craig.
@maplehouseknives6 жыл бұрын
Adventure Time Outdoors Hi Mark! I really appreciate your opinion and view. It is informed, not like a lot of folks that "jump on the train" when it comes to a new bushcraft knife. You can pick my brain anytime my friend! On another note, I got some shirts in, the wrong sizes came in. One is a 3XL. Not to poke fun or anything but I know you're a big guy. If you want it, send me your addy by PM, I will get it out to you on Monday. Let me know. Cheers my friend!

Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! It's great to hear from you! Yes, trial and error has a lot to do with choosing an excellent knife. It's funny on what we considered "excellent" before experience with high end knives. I look forward to your video on the new knife and also wish you and your family a very happy New Year! -Dave

Hi Dave ~~ As always, this was a great video. I'd really like to ask your advice on a knife. I'm very seriously considering the GNS, but don't know if I should get the Scandi or the Saber grind. I have several Moras, so I have Scandi grinds on other knives. Will one grind truly serve me better than the other? As I've been looking at knives, there are many good knives around. One of the reasons I'm leaning so heavily on an LT Wright knife is because of the readily available left-handed sheaths. That's just icing on the cake for me. What are your thoughts on Scandi or Saber? Thank you, my friend. ~~Susan
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan! Great to hear from you, my friend! I have both saber and scandi grind knives and really enjoy both types of grinds. While I prefer a scandi, sabers are very fun to use, as well! I think if you decide on the saber grind GNS, you will enjoy it. It just takes some minor adjustments when using it over a scandi but I find very easy to get used to and it's very comparable with woodcrafting tasks. You cannot go wrong with any LT Wright knife and I am glad to hear that your left-handed sheaths are readily available. Keep me posted on what you decide on, Susan! Thank you for taking the time to stop by! -Dave

Beautiful knife David and your new canteen kit is nice too! My question would be how the GNS stacks up to the Spyderco Bushcraft-UK that we both have and love?¡?

Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your excellent comment, Dano! Nice to hear from you, my friend! Great question! Both excellent knives. Unfortunately, many American made knives (like LT Wright) are overpriced in the UK but there are many British and European made knives that are very good and at a better price. I really like my Enzo Trapper which has a good dangler sheath and a very sharp spine. Great Christmas gift, those Tritan Oasis canteens are fantastic bits of kit.
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
I am sorry to hear about that, my friend, however, I have heard that the Enzo Trapper is an excellent knife! Sounds like you got a great Christmas gift! Yes, I am loving the Oasis canteen! Maplehouse make outstanding knives, (unfortunately) unavailable in the UK, I'm Canadian so will look into them the next time I'm in the great white north. In the UK Chyrose knives are worth several looks and there's still many good knife makers producing in Sheffield (A. Wright, Joseph Rodgers ect.)

Not sure that's what "go no show" was meant to mean. "No show", as in not showing up to work? That is how I interpreted it. Work typically gets in the way of getting out to the woods
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын

Say Heah Dave, That's silly what you think about fatwood, In olden days when men were bold and rubbers weren't invented, men used socks upon their dings dongs and babies were prevented, yeah they used fatwood too, But because I used my 3V GNS over the weekend it reminded me of you, I wanted to tell you how great it makes feathers . Yeah it's slightly curved but mostly straight was made for curls, and making kindling, Mine has the Saber Grind and I got the 3V steel, I also got the Canyon Black Mountain Track G-10 handles, I teamed it with my 2Hawks Warbeast Tomahawk which I also cleared with it, and my EZ KUT WoW Folding Saw, my back-up knife was my Vic. Delemont Collection Rangergrip 78. You did good, (again). Dilly Dilly.,,.p
