I recently purchased a Compact Forest Knife as well. I really enjoy the sweeping blade and the high scandi grind. The only problem I had with the knife was the scales. I prefer a satin finish on micarta. It was an easy fix with some sandpaper. I enjoy your videos, very calming and peaceful. Thank you

You should try a Cold Steel Kukri 0-1 steel. I love mine. 4 chops on a 4 inch tree and it's down. I need to try an LT one of these day. I like big knives for most very thing medium size. But I like Victorinox pocket knives and tools for my smaller stuff and back up. I'm stuck on a heavily modified bk9, with a choil even, and a Swiss tool for back up. And I just bought the pack axe today so we will see how that works out.

the AKC knives are made by bark river and they all have what is described by Mike Stewart owner of Bark River as a soft 90 on the spine . i believe they do this so it will still strike a ferro rod but still be comfortable if you place a thumb or finger on the spine for extended use either skinning or carving and doing push cuts

I've recently discovered your channel. Very nice mate. Lots of practical use testing with good rambling and chatter to keep things interesting. Hey, when you have time and funds would you mind getting back into Condor stuff? I'd be interested to hear your take on the Condor Hudson Bay knife and the other large chopping knife/machetes like the Pack Golock and Mini Duku. Side note, I also love knife sharpening and my hatchet and tomahawk are both shaving sharp most of the time. Completely unneeded for the hatchet chores but... it's just impressive .

Nice collection of knives. I always eye the Condor. I'll eventually get it. I have the Mora Classic #2, Mora Companio Heavy Duty, and Mora Bushcraft Black. I rotate these for right now. I have a Svord Peasant Knife for neck carry secondary, and sometimes the good ol' Opinel. Have you ever played around with carrying an old style butcher knife, like the Old Hickory? I have an Old Hickory, and a couple of vintage butcher knives of that same style, one is the same size as the Old Hickory, and one has a 10" blade! Anyway, great quick video. :-)

Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words, Michael! You will love the Bushlore! Steel is a bit soft but an excellent knife! I love the 3 Mora knives that you rotate! 3 of my favorites! Funny you mention the old hickory butcher knife, as I love that one, too! I have a few videos on it and feature it here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXWkgnubhLCbiZY. -Dave

Great video :-) The larger knives are always a bit tricky with fine carving tasks, but all in all the vintage style butcher knives are nice. Back in the day, they were the knife of choice for the outdoorsman. I still like to carry a smaller secondary for whittling, and fine tasks. At some point I'm planning on getting a YT channel up. I'll let ya know when I do. Cheers!

Hi Dave, great video that made me interested in getting a LT Wright knife in the near future, to upgrade from my Condor Bushlore and my Mora Companion HD that I love using. Would like to know more about the GNS and the Genesis, aside from having different steel, blade profile and handle, what sets them apart in camp or bushcraft tasks? Looking forward to your input or better yet a side by side comparison video. Thanks :)
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your excellent comment, Tris! An LT Wright is an excellent upgrade and you cannot go wrong with either. If it helps, my latest video features the GNS - kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6iVhYSDetZrra8 and this video is dedicated to the Genesis - kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6KppZWgZqilhbs. I also have a video comparing the Genesis to my favorite LT Wright Lagom Bush Knife - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpnako2wna2tbbs. I will definitely try to do a comparison video between the Genesis and GNS. I like the 01 steel and blade profile of the GNS. You cannot beat the handle on either but the Genesis has a handle that fills my hand very well and comfortably. They are both 1/8" thick, however, the GNS seems to be more designed for good slicing and carving, while the Genesis has a heavier duty feel to it. Tough choice, my friend! I would say get both to be on the safe side...haha! -Dave

Thank you for the vid. May I ask why '01 Tool Steel is your favorite grade of steel?
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! It's been my observation the the 01 tool steel I own hold excellent edges and respond very well to touch-ups with a ceramic rod and strop. I also like the fact that they react very well to being struck by a piece of flint or chert for sparks. Great question, my friend! -Dave

Thank you for the kind words, Tim! I appreciate you stopping by, my friend! The Lagom is sold through bens backwoods and Lester river bushcraft. Not sure if they ship to the UK but you can check out the links here - www.bensbackwoods.com/lagom-bush-knife/ & lrbushcraft.com/lagom-bush-knife-green-micarta-handle/. Thank you for watching! -Dave

nice work dude. i want to ask. the grind on that knife is different. i saw you use it and its seems to be great for shaving the correct depth. the grind limits the depth that it cuts into the wood. i really don't like that kinda grind for normal knife usage but in this application, it might be perfect
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 7 жыл бұрын
When making the feathers, I used the Bushlore (saber grind), Lagom (scandi grind) and the Forest knife (scandi-vex grind) and definitely prefer the scandi. Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, Bob! -Dave

What an excellent collection. Someday I hope to have an lt wright knife but I'll just stick with my mora and try to be patient enough to save up the money. When I purchase an lt wright knife which would you recommend? Also have you ever tried or plan on trying a bark river knife?
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! Nothing wrong with a Mora knife! I would recommend any of the LT Wright knives mentioned - Lagom (my personal favorite), GNS and/or the Genesis! I have never had interest in purchasing a bark river knife, however, the American Knife Company knives shown in the video are produced by bark river! -Dave

Hello friend🙂 Do you have a preference between the compact forest knife and the full size? Lagom still your favorite?
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 6 жыл бұрын
Hello, my friend! I think both Forest knives are outstanding but I do like the compact a bit more. Its a little smaller and I like that it's 1/8" thick. However, the full size is very fun to use and YES, Lagom is still my favorite! Nice to hear from you! -Dave

Hi Dave, so after all these years did the Forest knife end up being used or not so much? Also Condor has a knife that nobody has been talking about kzbin.info/www/bejne/pl66hmSfiJWJjKM its called the Ripper, considering that its 1095hc has kydex with thick leather belt loop micarta grip and an awesome blade shape I think its one you could share with friends. The shape is really cool I like this one, its $100 and IMHO a great midline knife for those looking for a good complete rig for a good price and can't afford an LT custom yet. Blessings to ya brother.
