LT Wright Large Northern Hunter. Best Fit & finish of all my knives (with my Gunny Scandi). Absolute perfection. Steel is AEB-L. Never used that, so its a question mark i forgot to mention. If it behaves like Sandvik stainless steels, im happy. Swans appear at 20:03.

Ha! I knew you'd love it! Wow! I have that exact knife. It also comes in a small version which is very handy as well. I love them both and the larger one is very likely my favourite knife of all time! (And trust me, that's saying something!) Welcome to the world of the Canadian Belt Knife. Its my favourite design. (I may be biased, as im Canadian... Lol!) I think LT's version is the best out there currently, given materials and craftsmanship. You will find it does camp chores and bunting/fishing tasks very well. Of course, im not sure it beats a puukko in woodworking, but its not bad! Congrats! Lovely spot. Great video.

You definitely was right!😃 That design is such a killer!! Have been actually eying on Canadian belt knife for a longer time. And then saw this knife, it also combined the fact that i've been wanting to test LT Wright knife. So I pre orderd this many months ago. And I must say Im reeeeeally impressed with the whole thing from the design to fit & finish, blade geometry to the great sheath. Fan of LT Wright immidiately! Also very happy to use a design of Canadian heritage, as its such great country. Thanx for watching! Cheers!

Stunning footage of the swans, they have returned here in the last week. I don't think the harma whatsit bird is crane, If I remember rightly crane is kurki or something like that. Couldn't see it in the shot but maybe a grebe or a diver? A grey one presumably 😂. That does look like a fantastic knife and very different to anything I own, maybe a few similarities to the Joker Nessmuk.

You have to leatherform the sheath. Put into a water for 30 minutes, then put the knife in how deep you want be, and form around the knife with your fingers hardly and deeply, then put it on sunshine until it is absolutely dry. Then put knife in again, not earlier, wait until is totaly dry.

@@OldForestBushcraft I have done some wet forming of veg-tanned leather. In that situation, 30 minutes is too long for soaking the leather. Just a couple of minutes does the trick. Maybe it takes longer with oil tanned leather; not sure what L.T. Wright uses for their sheaths.

You bring back great memories. The old cabin community I was raised in had an island that was a boat grave yard...all around the island in the shallow waters you could find old wooden boats filled with rocks. I remember family stories of generations of our boats being placed there...

I love knives and learning their qualities and performance, I would recommend that as you talk about your knives put them to use at the same time, let your viewers see the knife in action and how well it performs the tasks you ask from the knife. People want to see how good the knife is in use , to see if it makes the task easier or harder to do and to judge if they want to invest in the knife themselves

If you like the northern hunter, try a Mora 2000. LTWK have better finish and are more aesthetically pleasing, but I prefer the 2000 compared to my large northern hunter because it feels better in hand and cuts better both fish and wood. It’s uglier, don’t get me wrong, but since you love this model as much as I loved it (still do, but I don’t use it much, it’s on a shelf since two years now), I do recommend trying the 2000. Not the kansbol, the Kansbol is worse from my experience (handle-wise). You can use the LTWK sheath for the Mora 2000 btw! I still do use it in that
@OldForestBushcraft

Hey, thanx for the tip! Im actually considering ordering this sheath for other knives. I love it so much. I owned the Mora 2000, but dont know where it is anymore (probably at our family summer house, totally beaten up by some cousin in renovation etc., lol). I remember liking it, and actually considering buying some new Moras, as they are currently in discount in local hardware store. Cool to know it fits the LTWK sheath! Thx for watching!

@@OldForestBushcraft Yeah the 2000 is sooooo good. I personally love slicy stainless knives and that led me to the large northern hunter, but then I tried one while fishing with a friend (his), and I was blown away. It’s truly sad that they are seen as cheap knives to just abuse, they truly are amazing as far as knife performance goes. They cut sooo well

Its a great one! (did also update review of it, actually ended up using amongst other things as a Mushroom knife, lol). I think two weeks at the archipelago, in my Family summer house, sums up my use with this knife: it was in belt practically from dusk till dawn. Used it for opening fish, making fires (sauna and outdoors), odd cuttng, lots and lots of food prep etc. Super versitale blade. But for the woods, bushcraft things I do take other knives, f.e. my GNS Scandi etc. Thanx for watching!🌲🔪🌲

@sopwithcamelus
@sopwithcamelus 8 ай бұрын
The ricasso is the guard. The handle also keeps the knife under control. A guard may be helpful when the knife knife has a very linear profile or is for combative purposes. Even then, it isn't essential if you know how to hold it.
