At my high school, valedictorian was given to the kid who had the best speech so maybe East High was the same lol I chickened out of auditioning but my friend made a really good speech. However, the teachers who chose the valedictorian chose the student council president (who was also chosen by the teachers, not by elections) to be valedictorian even though my friend had an objectively better speech. Her speech was about the four years of high school, talking about various world events that happened and had a lot of pop culture references (and a bunch of Disney puns). The student council president just threw together a three minute speech about how great the school was. Low key it was propaganda and the teachers knew it lol

My pitch for HSM4: Troy and Gabriella break up in college (duh) because Troy peaked in high school. He swears off theater and moves home to take over his fathers job as high school basketball coach. Gabriella goes on to become a successful academic and is working towards a PHD. Years later, her mom falls ill so she moves home to take care of her. She gets a job at the rival high school to make a little cash between caring for her mom and finishing her doctoral work. That same year, Sharpe and Ryan’s cousin is in their senior year. They are also a theater kid (obvs) and in love with a boy on the basketball team of the rival school or something. The drama teacher dies in the middle of the semester and there is no one to direct the senior musical. The cousin calls Sharpe and Ryan to ask them to direct. Unfortunately they are too busy being successful in NYC to help, but they reveal Troy and Gabriella were theater kids too. Parent trap hijinks ensue to get Troy and Gabriella back together so that the show can go on. Meanwhile there is a Romeo/Jules B-plot between the cousin and the rival basketball boy. The final scene is opening night. In the audience, we see all our familiar HSM faces (Ryan and Chad sit next to each other, holding hands and wearing the others hat)

As a kid, the first time I watched High School Musical, I absolutely despised it. I didn’t understand why they would start dancing and singing. My mom explained it’s just the movie, it’s a musical. Which just made me more confused. Does time stop? Do others know they are doing it? They don’t get made fun of? What are the reactions? Safe to say I hated it for years until I finally learned to just ignore my burning questions and realize that musicals probably weren’t the thing for me. It’s the ‘tism.
