Roy Clark was so underrated.

I used to go to Keystone Quartet concerts - Joe Bonsall was the lead singer but one of the real attractions for me was the piano playing of Garland Craft, Craft is the pianist in this clip in his short-lived membership of the Oaks band, he is also seen on the cover of the Oaks first non-gospel LP - "Ya'll Come Back Saloon". Saw a lot of gospel quartets in my teen years and Garland was the best of the pianists I witnessed. He also formed his own gospel group called "Chariot" - had a performance of theirs on cassette tape a long time ago. You get a touch of his flair on this one as well.

I’m no singing school professor but it’s played too fast, speeding up through the end. LOL. I still love to hear them, just wishing I could keep up with them.

Hard to believe he sang baritone to JD Sumner when backing up Elvis Presley just before joining the Oaks isn’t it?
@ralfbirkholz8305 Жыл бұрын
@@wesnall6796 no, he never sang baritone with the Stamps. He always sang bass - also he were with the Stamps.

It shows Skip,Don,Garland,and Dr.Mark Ellerbee in this video. Mark had that drum set when I saw them at Rock Valley Collage in 1979!

Do you know the date of this appearance?
@TulsaGirlForever5 жыл бұрын
I've not been able to find the exact episode this is, but this was the year the Oaks won a Grammy for this song, so I'm going to say Fall 1977 or early '78. They were on Hee Haw once in '74 & again in '77 & '78 then '80 as per the Hee Haw episode search on TV.com. By '80 they had their new look, new songs & a little more grey!
