Thanks for this new clip of Lucia in her youth. Exquisite voice. Taken a little slowly but first time I've heard this aria without wincing (including the great Maria). Such ease and grace even at the tender age of 29. Lucia was a great but always felt she could have been greater still.

@@mirific29 Clearly Lucia was not a coloratura singer. But the sheer beauty of her voice, and the charm with which she presented herself remain unmatched. The fireworks can be wearing at times. This is Rossini sung like Mozart. Which to me is an improvement!

If it the real natural voice Fach, and the right belcanto tecnic is learned it's always easy. Today they all sing either to heavy or light roles and don t know what tecnics they learn today. Till 1990 nobody sounded forced. Effort, forcing and pressing and be überfordert seems to be sexy today.

It’s fascinating to see Popp on camera in something other than Mozart. The entire performance is strange. Her voice is not entirely bel canto style at all. That said it’s a lovely and effervescent performance. Some very strange thin notes at some parts are curious. Apparently she performed Zerbinetta but it was a failure . It’s a wonder anything she did was terrible as she seems to be able to pull off a lot very well with her “every style technique”. Brava.
