I agree with you 100%. And I do believe song and music to be the purest form of entertainment we have developed. I have an argument that ‘clowning’ comes a close second. (I mean clowning in a non verbal chat at of expressing a feeling or emotion). Something universal that does not require language, that a human of any age can understand and learn form. It’s a thing that requires human ext to comprehend and often teaches something. I’d argue that through how Pavarotti does what he does, he crosses the barrier between singing and clowning and actually does something that transcends the both. No competition intended, I just think that there are some things that are so special, they are hard to define.

He is considered one of the most important tenors of all time. Some have said he was the tenor of the century, a voice that only comes around once every 100 years. However, there is also Enrico Caruso. He is considered the most famous tenor at the beginning of the 20th century and one of the most important singers in the world of opera.

In around 1993 Pavarotti came to Japan. My uncle and I went to listen to his performance. His voice was powerful beyond our human comprehension. My uncle and I talked about how he sang "like a stereo". This my favorite uncle is with the Lord and with Mother Mary. He lives in my heart and in every beautiful music note. Forever.

I just lost my Mom Tuesday, she was one of his biggest fans as well as Opera in general. I played Nessun Dorma, Ava Maria, Carmen and many of her favorite Arias during the last hours of her life. The smile on her face was so beautiful. I'm sitting in her apartment playing those same songs waiting on my siblings to arrive. We are so grateful to her and our Dad for sharing their love and passion for Opera.

When I was twelve years old, my mother insisted that I learned to play this piece of music. I hadn't heard it before and I wasn't particularly interested, but I did learn to play it. Now, over 30 years later, I hear this piece sung by Pavarotti and I fully understand why my mother wanted me to play it. When I listen to this now, my eyes fill up, both because of Pavarotti's wonderful performance and because of remembering my late mother.

I was in the Melbourne town hall nearly 50 years ago. I’d taken my mum to hear Ivan Rebroff a German Opera singer who sang popular Russian songs & excepts from Operas. He was un miked and the town hall was an enormous drafty building back then. At one stage, he walked down the centre aisle while singing The Volga Boatman’s Song. He happened to stop right beside mum & I as he finished the final chorus of this magnificent old song. My god!!! Now I know why Opera singers always sing side by side and not front on, into each other’s faces. His un microphoned voice had absolute deafening power. The other time I experienced the “full surround sound” of an acoustic human’s voice was in London at my first Opera. A “young man from Italy” called Luciano had came over to debut his talents. MY GOD!! I will never forget that night either. These men have other worldly qualities about them. It made me wonder about the size of their diaphragm & if their vocal cords were different to the rest of us mere mortals?

Technical masterclass right there. His support's locked in from the beginning of each phrase, through until the end of each phrase, whilst remaining flexible . He covers the vowels through the passagio to tilt or lengthen the larynx, whilst moving away from the mask, to avoid nasality and to achieve a more rounded sound ,which takes less effort also, because he's not using the full vocal cords. Then he moves back towards the mask when the scale lower's, giving him forward resonance, and also to balance the air pressure.

I cry every time I hear Pavarotti sing. If you are not moved by this mans incredible voice you must have hearts of stone. He is truly an Angel come down to sing to us.

The man that introduced me to classical and opera. An absolutely amazing person and singer. Still gives me shivers. Wish god could have left him on earth a little longer. Thank you Sir for this masterpiece ❤
