It makes me really wonder what the dragons are actually descended from initially because their diets are pretty set in stone but then there Cannibal, Sheepstealer, and the one that eats fish that I can't remember the name of. Were they initially the Wyrms of Sothoryos or are the Wyrms also a kind of dragon that was created? Did they start as some kind of large lizard, like the ones found on the islands that Alyssa Farman rediscovered? Perhaps it's because they have a penchant for eating large-ish ungulates like sheep, horses, and so on, that even when they grow gigantic like Balerion or Vhagar, they still hunt those ungulates but the whole herd.

All dragons are beautiful :) and I agree. I actually find the "wild" dragons so interesting, like what are their personalities like?? I hope the show takes advantage of better CGI to add expression to each one. Also in the book, it mentions some of the dragons coil together for warmth. It would be so fun if the show portrayed this. It would be pleasing to the VFX and small-detail appreciaters while being a wholesome moment for the meme community

But his rider, King Consort Daemon Targaryen is my favourite Targaryen ever, and the two of them are most definitely the MVPs of the Dance of Dragons. So yeah, big respect for Caraxes, the Blood Wyrm. 🖤

It’s been a trend for the dragons that they were getting progressively smaller and growing slower. Biggest theory is chaining dragons stunt their growth. And going by the fact Drogon was bigger than Viserion and Rhaegal AND THEY in tern seem to be quite big for their age compared to DoD dragons and it’s probably correct

I think a cool video idea could be listing out the post dance Targaryens and speculating which would be dragon riders and what past dragons they could hypothetically have claimed. For example I could see Bloodraven having claimed grey ghost, his affinity with the sea could symbolize bloodraven ability to ride the green sea etc.

I feel like Dreamfyre is a little underrated in the source material. She was free roaming for most of her young life when Queen Rhaena was at Harrenhal and Dragonstone. She's older than Vermithor and Silverwing who hatched in the cradles of Jaehaerys and Alysanne if the legends are true, therefore should be larger than Vermithor. The only reason she ranks low imo is because she's a "woman's dragon" who never flew to war. Although Rogar Baratheon and Lord Farman tested Rhaena's patience on a few occasions.

so I did address this. I said that the main reason she's so low is because of her rider, who has an aversion to violence, but that if Helaena could flip a switch and embrace dragon war, then they would be "severely underranked" and people should mentally move them up. So it's mainly the reluctance of the rider to inflict violence. And that's... good. Helaena is a good person and if some people can't bring themselves to slaughter with their dragons... good on them. But yeah, I mean, she clearly is a very sensitive/ receptive person and it's hard to see her flying her dragon into a war.

also Dragon growth rates are not even. Vermithor is noted as the second largest dragon alive in F&B, so bigger than Dreamfyre.

I wasn't questioning your placement of her in the context of the story and did hear your argument regarding the ranking. It makes sense considering her actual involvement. I was commenting more on the community overlooking her. Also I don't fully trust that Dreamfyre was smaller than Vermithor. I don't think the Maesters would acknowledge Rhaena's dragon being larger than Jaehaerys due to their own biases and needing to affirm male succession. I’ve always believed the various differences in designs of the dragons, and varying sizes and rates of which they grow, to be intentional and a result of selective breeding and outright design by the Valyrians. Like there are dragons made to look pretty and be shown off by high lords of the Freehold, such as Sunfyre. Then we get dragons like say the lack Dread Balerion or Vermithor who were designed to be war dragons, ridden by commanders or skilled warriors, leading the vanguard and destroying the Freehold’s enemies. Then some of the dragons like Drogon and his brothers who look like they were designed to more or less operate in costal areas, hence the fun like sail/spikes they had, at least in the show. Caraxes meanwhile is the result of experimentation, the Valyrians wanted to see if they could perhaps create dragons with specific characteristics via the addition of genes/blood of other creatures or simply wanted to see if they could make dragons different should they desire because some lord wanted his to look special or unique.

If the show does prove that The Cannibal is indeed 230+ years old, that would make him not just the oldest of all the dragons, but the largest as well, considering that he lived his entire life as a wild dragon and therefore being able to roam the skies freely and to consume whatever he wanted it is absolutely safe to say he grew throughout his lifespan with a natural growth rate of a dragon, in The Cannibal's case that likely means he was able to grow more rapidly than any other living dragon. With all this taken into consideration, it's clear he'd be larger than even Vhagar. And if The Cannibal were to be on a certain side of House Targaryen's warring factions, the Dance would forever be changed by his involvement. Amazing video, btw!

And then malys and vahgar are the same age but malys was bigger than her. I think in general people put too much stock into the age of the dragons and not other factors like genetics, food sources, space, etc. Just like a person has a *potential* to grow large, they are still constrained by genetics, upbringing, and other forces. Age alone doesn't mean a dragon will be largest. A chihuahua can live to be 15 and a Great Dane can die at 1. Which one is larger no matter what?

I have a soft spot for Grey Ghost, he's the most chill, unproblematic dragon ever Dude has spent years just kind of living his life on the island, never bothered the locals preferring to avoid them altogether, enjoyed fishing like some old grandpa... I’m also really happy they sized moondancer up. I hope she meets up with rhaenys unexpectedly and Meleys faces the 2 dragons to save her granddaughter. To make sense of why she faced both dragons. I was hoping tyraxes would be larger since daemon does name him at the war council. We will probably just see aegon and stormcloud the size of rhaegal and viserion in Season 4. Just to show the relationship of a baby Targaryen and their hatchling. Since aegon is literally a child. Which makes me think it’s gonna be tyraxes that flees the ship not stormcloud…?

That's really neat and I've been wondering about the Dragon imprinting, so it's nice to get some real-world 'lore' related to it. @@ThommyofThenn From the laying of the egg, I will handle hatching eggs differently from eating eggs. I have drakes, male ducks, so all the eggs laid are fertile and could become a duckling, but I only handle eggs for hatching if I am prepared to incubate or sell hatching eggs. The rest of the eggs will be handled for food. Baking with duck eggs is incredible. When I do a hatch, usually the last egg needs a little help, so I sit with the egg and a cup of warm water helping the duckling out. Those ones seem to imprint extra well, because we have spent so much time together.

My favorite thing that came out of HOTD were the memes about Vhagar being deaf and senile. I cracked the fuck up reading the “theory” that she thinks that Aemond is Visenya and they are fighting the old wars from the previous century. I couldn't help thinking when you mentioned it - how did it take 'til Rhaena, to realise the idea that if an egg is put in a Targaryen's cradle, there's a sooner & stronger bond forged between dragon & rider; there's more than a century between Aenar's flight from Valyria, to Aegon the Conqueror's lordship- & Aenar travelled with 5 dragons, & possibly eggs, too (Balerion was already alive: Meraxes & Vhagar weren't born 'til Dragonstone) - how did people who were long exposed to the dragonlord culture, _not_ make the connection sooner? As much as I'm hanging out for TWoW (& ADoS)- I also hope for 'Blood & Fire' to answer some questions about Valyrians' dragonrider origins, & how they were maintained... I'd one day **love** for a Conquest film/ series- so we could see Nana Vhagar before the present day, when she was a spunky young thing - hard to imagine she was the smallest of the three...
