As a Christian, I can confirm this is annoyingly accurate haha. You just described the biggest problem with "Christians" these days. All about a performance of Christianity, not a real relationship with God. I guarantee you most of those "extra-super-spiritual-whatever" people don't live this perfect charismatic spiritual relationship that they so often love to portray. And as for worshipping, people need to realize that everybody can worship God in different ways, and you shouldn't dictate to them what to do (lift your hands - n o w) lol

Totally agree I am aware that some people act this way but never met someone like that in my church. It’s a bit weird
@Yipper64 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I can agree with that. Some people are just spiritual but never actually pick up their bibles. Like do they know the history? Do they even have opinions on theological concepts like Calvinism and other such things? Or do they just kinda go to church, then go home, thinking "well if that's what I need to do to go to heaven", you know?

This is inarguably the best critical video of Christians I have ever seen-and I see a whole hecka-ton of Christian bashing content (I do apologetics). Everything you said is absolutely true. In fact, when I talk to other Christians about these sort of things, all those goofy behaviors are examples of things I try to explain are not in Christianity. The best example is the one with the pastor drawing out a message from a fart; I have seen BS like that more often than I would like to admit. Being a Christian also, it's so easy to see why many non-believers are hesitant of Christians. For those who aren't Christian that are reading this, let me reassure you, that's not what Christianity is supposed to look like. That all is the charismatic movement (nonsense). Christianity is a very pragmatic belief at its core.

Dumbing down a religion which is supposed to be unapologetically intelligent is the most insane tactic the Church ever conceived of. It should come as no surprise to anyone inside or outside of the Church that not giving your own religion the intellectual credit it deserved lead to masses of young people moving out of their Christian household and immediately walking away from the faith at the first sign of challenge. Childlike faith is great and all, but what makes a child a child is the fact that they haven’t been tested by the real world. If you have childlike faith, that’s a good thing from one perspective, but good luck defending it the moment it come under attack and you realize just how little you actually know about your beliefs.

I'm a Christian myself and I found this pretty funny. For me though, when I pray for save travels for myself or anybody, it's not so much about making sure they have a safe travel (because God's providence already rules over all these events before I even pray for them), but in the end it gives God more praise. I think it makes God pleased with us to see how thankful we can be for something as small as a safe bus ride home, or a flight across the country. Its overall a positive thing for everybody involved.

To me, this video is a sign of good comedy: observational but not irreverent, relatable but not reductionist, honest but not tactless. As a Christian watching this it's good to see and be able to laugh a little bit at ourselves, but also to realize how easy it can be to create an insular world that speaks a language that is both foreign and odd to those who aren't familiar with it. At best it can seem strange, and at worst a phony cover of pseudo-spiritual wrappings. I do hope that fellow believers can be secure enough to take it with the humor intended and to be mindful that "super-spiritual" speech or behaviors might actually be a positive feedback loop of self promotion. Thanks for sharing, and keep it real!

As someone who's recently returned back to Christ and am seeking a church to find. I absolutely understand to a T that feeling you're describing. I do my best to remind myself that we don't go to church for our own preferences or amusements, but for God's sake as the end. I endure the cringe and momentary discomfort because I understand that God has found plenty of worse and cringey things in my life that absolutely displeases Him, but loves us anyways. I’m guessing this is Baptist because this is exactly how my church is run with an opening, a prayer where everyone who is physically able to gets on their knees and prays, some worship music (could not tell you how many times I’ve heard How Great Is Our God sung at our church), the sermon, and then one more song which then the pastor invites anyone who wants to to go up to the altar and pray. This video really hit home with me as someone who grew up going and being a Baptist Christian. This video made me chuckle as I can relate to how goofy some of the stuff we do looks. And I totally agree, some of the stuff is goofy, but to me I kinda just grew up with it… so I guess it is pretty normal to me. Totally felt the not putting your hands up during a song, mine are usually to my sides. Man, and I’m fixing to go on a Mission Trip and Summer Church Camp the following next few weeks. Maybe I’ll show this to a few of my church friends! Great video, maximum relatability.

We've had very different experiences with Baptist churches then. The one we attended when I was little was so boring and more like a methodist church. This video read to me like a pentecostal/assemblies of God church. Goes to show we're not all that different.

I like the prayer comment, and I honestly feel like I've noticed a bit of a disparity in prayer between most Church people who grew up with it and me who came to it later in life, and when they constantly say God over and over it always makes me feel like I'm praying incorrectly

Maybe it doesn't depend on the type of Church, but in some parishes in any Church. I'm Catholic and this video echoes some of the parishes quite accurately, while others not at all. The Basilica in my diocese has a unique flavor depending on which mass you attend. The Saturday Evening Mass is a bit like this, the Sunday morning is old-world and the Sunday Evening is a bit like a bunch of passive aggressive hippies on acid. The weekday masses feel like a wake.

2:08 no thats not... Why we pray... I think you fundamentally misunderstand what prayer is for. its not in any way meant to change God's actions or anything like that. 2:30 nonononono the prayer is like "God I know you will keep me safe, I make this prayer to acknowledge your sovereignty" or yaknow however you want to put that. 3:00 ok no yeah that one is fair, people can literally just say nothing to feel good. You dont have to say something to pray properly, but in a group setting youre praying for the people around you. The least you can do is actually say something.

Glad this was called Churchianity and not Christianity, because that it is not. As a real Christian (and yes there is such a thing and it's good) I see this stuff all over in the churchianity world and culture and it can drive people away. It's like they adopted a lot of things from some pseudo culture that passed for 'Christianity' but was not and is totally artificial and manufactured. I've seen all of these things at some point. The trying to show off and outdo the other guy is just so sadly typical. Anyway what I saw a lot of as well during worship was the "okay now, let's all clap to this song now..." "alright now, come on, let's clap... let's ALL clap..." "come on now, I KNOW you can do it...I KNOW you CAN...." "Just put your hands together, I know you CAAAAN!" "I know you can do it....!" Not like that's condescending or anything.... or totally bossy or controlling.... or demanding manufactured motions by a dictator posing as a worship leader or pastor or anything. I was one of the ones who just would not clap. I'm not a clapper. I don't do happy-clappy. So just get over it... and move on. I'm a hand raiser. You can't do both even if you wanted to. I'm not in preschool. It's like they just want compliance. "Okay, we got 100% compliance today." "Oh no, we only got 89% compliance today, see the video?" You might even hear the verse..... But "the trees of the field clap their hands!" Answer: Yeah. But I am NOT a tree. I'm a hand raiser and not a clapper. And they are not my boss.

No, nobody likes the "Church" side of church,, except a good 5 or 10% who do, and the other 10 to 50% guest who want to be there or need to be their, the other 40 are people there by obligation, or somthing releative to that. Somtimes its fliped, you got a solid base 50% who like it there, and 40% guest who need to be there are so few and outnumbered by the majority, the 5% ln this case is the children growing up under this dissociated regime, depending on the hiarchy, its either a disenfranchised boy, (joker kids) Or a sexual a abused girl (people who turn lgbtqaip and dispise church). And i therefore welcome you to churchanity, pick your poise, or try your hand and making your own church, GOOD LUCK.
