You can walk on the shore anytime and see medieval pottery and bits of shoes; penny pipes galore; Victorian bottles and glass; hand-made bricks and nails. All sorts of stuff. Just go; it's easy.

Great video love all the information but I agree with a comment about the shoe being rescued just in time. I think it was really stuck and wasn't going anywhere soon. Either way it's better you found it now and it didn't get lost so win win

Hi Ron, its REALLY nice to hear an American detectorist who isn't in it for the money, I mean we all like to search for money (old coins etc) but some people are only in it for financial gain and right at the start of your video you said that you are in it for the history, there are some American detectorists who are really greedy like "American Diggers" that guy makes my blood boil because he is an insult to metal detecting and everyone who is not in to our hobby and who has watched that insult of a program thinks that we must only be into detecting for financial gain which I am not, I am in it for the love of finding something which hasn't been touched since Jesus Christ walked on the earth or from a similar time period. I love your finds and although I too have been detecting here in the UK for many years, I have never done any mud larking on the Thames or any other river for that matter, I usually do farmers fields myself and in the past some of my best ever finds that I have been fortunate to have found have been a highly decorated Viking silver armulet and a hoard of some 45 Roman silver Denarius from the 1st century AD which are both now in The Museum of Scotland (the hoard is still being studied) Keep up the good videos Ron and please continue to promote honesty in metal detecting because without honesty we will have no historical national treasures to show our future generations because there are too many people who find stuff and sell it on eBay without submitting it to their local FLO (Finds laison Officer who work for the museums and who record our finds and who have amazing knowledge of our finds) Best regards . Glen :-)

You have to be seriously gullible to think that after 3 or 400 years that shoe that you had to fight to get loose was possibly going to fall apart or disappear in a few days, so it's good that you found it just in time...what a joke! that shoe would still be lodged there for years if you didn't find it! Stop treating us like morons by saying such crap! Nice find for sure, but think about what you are saying!

Ive found a few old watches, the good thing is the internal mechanisms of old watches don't corrode so profoundly as they are made of brass and in some cases gold.

En el minuto 21.45 debajo de la mano que tiene un guante gris aparece algo dorado similar a un anillo.
@rodparsons5216 жыл бұрын
Please, not "chain-mail". Chain-mail arises from an unobservant Victorian mis-naming, probably by a purveyor of theatrical costume armour or his clients, or by some uninformed contemporary. The correct term is maille (Latin, macula meaning mesh or net). If you look at a piece of maille, you can see it is made in the form of a mesh or net, not as a chain. I also like the descriptive Norse "war knitting".

Why would you need a permit to dig a mud bank. Come on people...
@chistopherjames28947 жыл бұрын
The permits are a badge of responsibility, that you will act sensible and not be overzealous by collapsing the embankments foundations, there are people who would do it, hire cranes and heavy machinery to excavate large areas of the foreshore and create a dangerous environment for people like us, and the public.
@lisajohnson76376 жыл бұрын
Echo 9970 I don't think it's fair, the (stuff) is in the river, mud and slime if the pickers are willing to dig ALL DAY.....THEY SHOULD REAP THE REWARDS! If the government wants it, then they should get their asses out there and find it.... like the saying goes....."Finders keepers lossers weepes" Sounds like your country is controlling. ...ugh!
@garymitchell58996 жыл бұрын
You can walk onto the riverbank and do whatever you want. It's perfectly safe if you keep you eyes open, and nobody gives a shit. The guy has hyped it up for the American audience. Just go and do it - it's fun and easy.
@RicTic666 жыл бұрын
@@lisajohnson7637 You go to James Town , the Alamo, Gettysburg battle field ect or any of the historical sites in America and start digging them up they'd have you ignorant sorry arse in jail before you could cry 5th amendment or whatever. London has been a major city for 2000 years and the Thames fore-shore is a historical site. Maybe if your country lasts 2000 years your descendants will understand this.
@RicTic666 жыл бұрын
@@garymitchell5899 Yeah? You try it on the fore-shore in the city, apart from the 50 mudlarks who value their permits and will stop you, the River police and EA port of London boats regularly patrol the river and if they don't recognise you they will stop you and check your permit. Get caught and they will nick you and give you a hefty fine. I copied this from The London Mudlark page "Someone has recently been fined £5000 for scraping the foreshore where it's not permitted. Apparently the police took pictures of him from the embankment above and met him at the steps with the hefty fine. While it's great news that the authorities are finally keeping an eye on the foreshore, "
