Thank you for bringing up protection trained dogs, so many people don’t get it. I won’t train my Rottweiler to block, simply because I don’t want to bring out any protection instincts he might have naturally because of his breed. So many people think dogs can be protection trained to help anxiety so they feel safe. You have to pick protection or service, not both. Protection trained dogs are ineligible to be in service for the remainder of their lives. I’ve seen some “handlers” threaten others with their “attack” service dog.🤯

I am going to start applying for a service dog (I don’t want to get a puppy and owner train because I only know half of how to obedience train) POTS and anxiety are things I have. POTS is my biggest reason, but now I’m thinking anxiety might be another one... (I mean there was a point where I didn’t leave my house for two years and lately I’ve been terrible with that)

My girl is a PTSD service dog. I have severe conversion disorder which manifests from anxiety and I will go into full body seizures. I'm not epileptic, I have PNES (psychogenic non-epileptic seizures). I can feel one coming on. My head starts ticking 1st and if not mitigated, the tremors will move down into full body seizure. I tap my right hand on my left shoulder and tell Stella "help". She then jumps up and places a paw under both my collar bones (very deep pressure), she licks, keeps eye contact, I pet her and deep breathe. I've only had Stella a few months and she has gotten me out of seizures faster than any chewed up Klonopin ever did! I started having PNES attacks about 12 years ago. Now that I have Stella I've not gone into a full body seizure! We can usually stop it at the head tick / stuttering stage. Which is saying alot! I'm not usually walking. I use an electric wheelchair in public ... so I'm always sitting already if I need her to "help" me. And since we are a wide team (wheelchair & dog) we use the "through" command where she will go ahead of me through an entrance, door onto an elevator. After she goes in front of me, then she'll do a couple "back" steps allowing me to catch up after she's proceeded me through an isle, etc. Sooooo handy! Thanks for this cool video!

Ngl I’m so relieved I’m not the only one with a crippling anxiety of gun violence or even violence in general. With the horrible statistics especially for disabled women/women passing/afab it’s terrifying. I’m owner training my silver lab and although the pandemic and lack of funds severely impaired our public access training and I’ve been feeling so guilty about failing him and wishing I could do all our training myself, but somehow watching this made me feel better. I’ve been able to train Flynn a bunch of these tasks and have them pretty solid at home which I know isn’t as impressive I’m really thankful that even if at the end of this he washes because of public access I at least know he’s got my back at home ♥️ thank you for this!!!!

I agree with most of what you said here, except the “a task has to be something a dog is trained to do and not something a dog does naturally” I feel you could have clarified a little bit more as some dogs do have natural tasking abilities. While it isn’t something *any* dog could do, saying that a task isn’t something a dog does naturally is a bit off. For example, my first SDit came home at 8 weeks and immediately started persistently interrupting a dermatillomania episode. And continued the behavior the rest of her career with zero training. It was something she naturally did with no training.

Momentum pulling takes a bit to teach but one way I have seen it done is getting a specific piece of cloth like a rag or something to use as a marker. Every time the dog puts a paw on the cloth/marker click n treat or say yes and treat. Then keep doing this until your pup puts a paw on the cloth immediately, you click n throw the treat away from the cloth then your pup comes back and immediately goes to the cloth. Then start giving it a random cue just for training purposes. Once the word is associated with the action. Practice only going on cue make sure your dog is desensitized to the harness and equipment you want to use before continuing. make sure to get him/her used to you holding the handle. Put whatever harness/handle you wish to use then go about a foot away from the cloth and give the cue word. at the first walk with your pup. Then ass your pup is generalizing it and being successful which is a clean loop of cue, pup going to cloth then treat. Now don't walk with your dog but simulate the forward momentum pull. once your pup is successful with this and comfortable with pulling. Then add a lot of distance between the cloth and you. Make sure to click n treat for preforming how you want it. Hopefully this helps and makes sense

@ruthiesfight 4 жыл бұрын
I’m not a professional but this is what I did- I put my pull strap on my vest and went on a walk with my pup- I didn’t tell her heel and when she lightly pulled I gave her a treat. After she picked this up I started adding my command- “pull” and gave her praise and treats when she did what I want. Sorry if that didn’t make sense but I hope it helped 😊

@@mikaelathompson can you show me law that states that? A well trained protection dog with real world protection experience is as safe to be around as marine with combat experience. @Biblicaldogs you can easily look up ADA FAQ they specifically stated the dog cannot be out control(including aggressive) legally a dog that attacks, even for protection are now considered aggressive and don't have the same rights as other dogs. Just like woth local laws that prevent aggressive dogs from being in certain housing, or for insurances. Some places that do housing and most insurances will not allow for housing or cover you if your dog attacks even if it's trained in protection. It's a liability issue, dogs that are trained for protection are still legally a liability. Also, if you read what I stated i never stated they can't even work as a service dog only once they have a bite record.

Can you do a video on teaching hr and bp? I know the process, but not the ball park numbers he should focus on. Thanks!

Unfortunately heart rate hasn’t been proven to be teachable. It’s a trait they’re born with. Lucky doesn’t alert to BP.

@@luckydal2059 Ok thanks! I appreciate it. Mine starts licking and whining and lays on top of me, if I try to get up to soon he pushes me back down. When he’s “fine” again I am too, I’ve been using the cuff and trying to figure out when he starts alerts and ends them to try to understand. So confusing.😑

I don’t think I have any physical problems but when I go from laying to standing my vision goes completely black and I lose my balance so I’ve fallen over so many times 😂 but then again I’m clumsy I’ve also fainted twice at school.

That happens b/c of the sudden drop in blood pressure such fast chance in posture causes, even in those without POTS. Dehydration can also be a factor.

@@emersonkinnally8211 apparently the first time when I went down someone broke my fall and I didn’t hit my head so that was good, I remember opening my eyes only about 30 seconds after I fell and I couldn’t hear a thing my vision was also kinda foggy. My teacher was calling my name for another 30 se+ones before I heard him and went to the nurse. The second time I was on crutches with a bad hip and stood waiting to get my painkillers from the nurse and fell back, that time no one broke my fall and I was shaking for about half an hour even after I got up. The first time people were fairly freaked out and I don’t even know why I fainted, it just happens sometimes. I do make fun of myself about it. The nurses normally put that foil blanket around me and have me laying on the floor on my back with my legs elevated. It’s a little chaotic and it normally happens once a year in school on in my year 9 case I was at home because of lockdown. Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen this year but then again year 10 isn’t going so great to start with 😂

Excuse me but your acting like anxiety is nothing but it is actually very scary especially because I am 9 years old and I always get anxious about dying and it is not normal for me so it does affect me I know its not a disability and I don't need a service dog for it but it is serious. It also sort of disturbs me how you keep saying disability I don't know why because I'm just a kid but I does. Love the video and I'm not trying to be mean at all I'm just giving my honest feedback❤ *edit*: you said block is for someone with anxiety or ptsd people have Service dogs for anxiety? I know I one video you said it has to be disabiling but I see other videos and it says you can have a service dog for that so I looked it up and I also says you have a service dog for anxiety. I love animals and if you can answer my question if people can have service animals for anxiety that would be great because I'm a very curious person and I love to know the truth. And if people with anxiety can have service animals and my docter says I could be an option then I would get one because when I with animals it makes me feel happy but if they can help me with my anxiety, panic attacks, and other panic symptoms then it would really help me especially because I'm at a very young age and anxiety is hard for me because I always think im dying or going to die so I would appreciate I if you could read this and answer my question
