I'm coming up to five years with my L405 SDV8 and I still enjoy the quiet. The side windows are a kind of double-glazed which cuts much of the outside sound. I skipped the L322 so my previous one was a P38 which shared my life happily for eighteen years. The L405 is a considerable step up.

The only problem with Range Rovers at the moment is getting insurance. So many are getting stolen it is nearly impossible to even get a quote. Land Rover are looking into a scheme of there own.I got a quote of £9600, two days later that firm refused cover. And no, I'm not some young tearaway, I'm 67 ! I went for the poor man’s Range Rover. The L494, all be it the SDV8 Autobiography as well. It was a no brainer considering it was cheaper than a lot of the SDV6 versions for sale currently. Driving home from Cardiff to Scotland the average MPG was 42 all be it doing an average of 60 mph due to roadworks etc. I was never going to go for the SDV6 as my wife’s uncle had nothing but trouble with his. Yet he still loves the brand, he has a 23 plate commercial 110 Defender and picked up a 20 plate SVR 4 weeks ago. I Bought an IID tool straight away and currently working my way through and fixing some small issues that the car came with lol.

First time across your channel. Glad you enjoyed the L405. I'm located in the US and have a 2012 L322 HSE Lux V8. Nice step up from the HSE (Vogue) included heated and cooled seats. Overall a nice truck. I just bought my wife a 2020 RR SV Autobiography Dynamic in a beautiful metallic blue. Has very low mileage - 22k. In the US, it comes with the V8 Supercharged petrol (higher hp then the standard V8 supercharged). We've only had it for about a week and I'm loving the interior. So much so, I'm strongly considering a RR Sport SVR for myself in the next year or two.

Great review Lucy really good ! Im looking at the L405 5.0 supercharged petrol as it is the better engine to get. It's much faster @ 0-100 kph is 5 seconds and more refined sounding and quieter. The diesel turbos eventually need attention as they can leak , if you drive a lot of short trips the diesel cats get blocked up which can make car loose power , diesels all have a tracktery sounding engine thats still today always a bit noisy. Diesel costs more to fix and diesel fuel cost more per gallon than petrol in 2023 . Go the V8 SC petrol .

Have you tried the 4.4 TDV8 in the L322? Personally I think it's the best (I would say that as I have one) because it's the engine and gearbox of the next generation with the looks and ruggedness of the previous gen. New (L405 and 460) Range Rovers are spoilt by Mr McGovern's design language in my view, all models, Velar, Sport, Evoque etc. look like the same car but they've pressed "enlarge" on the photocopier to get the full Vogue. Also - look at those weedy little strings holding the tailgate!

Horses for courses, I suppose. If you're heavily invested in an L322, I guess you're going to prefer it, but we've had two in the past, and I think the L405 is considerably better looking. We don't have one, but have a RRS SVR - the later version with the faclifted lights and the 575 hp engine, and it still annoys me that the roofline can impede on rear visibility, which the full fat Range Rover's roof does not.

Most genuine owners know the real truth behind these rumours, and the fact that most modern, luxury cars, with high technology, cost a lot to repair. I was correct in terms of the mechanical and handling knowledge of cars here. She seems nice and presents well but it's immediately clear she has no real idea about cars or how they work, perform, handle or how they are made so dont expect an in-depth review of the specs handling performance etc. I suppose there is some scope and validity in reviewing interiors, space comfort and exterior design etc but thats pretty limited. It just confirms that these generalizations don't come from nowhere.

I'd have to disagree there. I've owned two RRS SVRs and they are totally pointless in the UK. Yes, they make a lovely sound, but getting to the national speed limit in a matter of a few seconds, becomes tiresome after a while, especially if you spend a lot of time in town. Yes, you can take them on a track day, but that invalidates most insurance policies, and would you really want to risk your daily driver if you should be unlucky enough to make a mistake? My second car is a Discovery 4, with the later SDV6 3.0 diesel engine in it, and it can show a clean set of tyres to a lot of rep mobiles (once you've passed the turbo lag, of course). When you look at second hand L405 Range Rovers, it's interesting how many have the SDV6 - it was very popular.

L322 is better. Just does what you need it to do. The RR brand has lost touch over the years for what it was originally intended for. Gone are the days where they would be thrust into fields, rivers, green landing etc and more at home on the drive being waxed and polished every other day!! JLR ditching the petrol and diesel engines could be a bold move but I for one will never drive an EV including a RR with an electric motor under the bonnet.
@JohnBaxendale Жыл бұрын
Personally, I have a 4.4 TDV8 L322 and love it, but I'd be very happy to have one with an electric motor. The 4x4 capabilities with a wheel in each corner would be truly epic, plus it'll be quiet and refined like a RR should be!
@simonuden8450 Жыл бұрын
I think you'll find Land Rover moved away from the old 'Green Laning' heritage with the. P38, arguably, but all of them, right the way up to the L605 have excellent off-roading capability. The one problem that people who have used them in such a way have found is that the wide, low profile tyres, with their large contact areas for good road holding, are absolutely useless on wet grass and some other surfaces. And the huge brake discs they have to fit to deal with the huge speeds they can do now, mean that choice of wheel size is limited, and therefore choice of tyre. And finally, I thought it was only Jaguar who had made the mistake of declaring for full electric. JLR would hardly have invested in the Ingenium range of engines if it wasn't going to use them in its Land Rover products beyond 2025. And, by the way, the P300e and P400e models, which have been around for some time now, already have electric motors in them, and small batteries. They're mild hybrids.
@JamesAllen300 Жыл бұрын
@@simonuden8450 There are quite a few L322's that go onto off road courses and green lane. Plenty in Suffolk and Norfolk anyway!! The ingenium engine have their issues and especially the 2.0 Diesel which you get in Evoque and Discovery. A friend used to work at a Land Rover specialist and he told me that they had a good few that came through the workshop for normal service and would leave sounding like a bag of marbles rattling around inside the engine. All oils and filters were in Land Rover boxes and bottles. He refused to work on them know and also so has his previous employer. You'll see on the internet the issue with timing chain and camshaft gear etc. The 2.2 diesel engine is the one to have. Much better engine.

That threw Velor / Evoque / Sport etc into the bin straight away ... so left me with 322 .. 405 ... 460 .... The 460 is too much money for me at present (I just bought another boat etc.) The 405 did not offer me anything above the 322 I was offered. Except a lot more price !. I plumped for a 2011-2012 one of the last 322 4.4L TDV8 Vogue SE ... with full toys .... video headests, full 360 cameras, adaptive cruise, 8 speed box, flappy paddles, etc. The only real difference of this to a FULL Autobiography - is that I have the full cream leather interior. The 405 in this video is LESS than my VOGUE SE in fact ! The black wheel is just so cringe. Absolutely classless. These cars look neater and classy in their original wheels.

How long has a clattery old oil burning diesel engine been above a supercharged V8? This is definitely not the top of the range engine, although it's probably the most sensible option.

They're amazing engines. I don't think there is a diesel so big, fast yet so good on fuel than this one.

@@warrengeew SQ7 TDI has a better engine, and is better on fuel.

If you want a lot of issues and have to pay a lot of money for a daily driver then get the Range Rover... They look beautiful and the interior feels nice but every single thing will go bad with them... They have BMW V8 motors that are shit and the electrics will go haywire. If you want a dependable big and luxurious SUV just get a Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon or a Chevrolet Suburban.
