I decided to look online for a bath mat. The last hotel I stayed in didn't have them, and I almost slipped on the tiled flooring. I also really like roses, so I searched for "rose mat", but ended up on the following KZbin channel instead: / mattrosestuff
I was left very disappointed, despite the hilarious videos, as I still cannot dry my feet.

I used to work in a hotel in Cornwall, and one day I was chatting with the receptionist, who bestowed me with the interesting factoid that the number of complaints always increases when it rains. Now, this makes sense, because when people are stuck inside, they pay more attention to their rooms and nitpick more. Then the receptionist told me there are always complaints about the rain *itself*. Like, "Why is it raining? The paper said it would be sunny and its spoiling my holiday". As if the hotel has the power to change the weather.

There’s a sacred site in a provincial park near me that’s still in use by a lot of Indigenous ppl. When you go there, you often see offerings and, sometimes, people praying. A dude went one year and left a review saying that the offerings were “untidy” and the worshippers were “distracting”. He suggested that a section be cordoned off for worshipping and offerings, so “tourists can enjoy the site more fully”. Imagine if you went lived near a famous church, and when you went to worship, you were ushered off to one side, so your prayers didn’t disturb the tourists. I could not believe this. Anyhow, the next year some white guy disturbed the site(physically) and anyone who wasn’t a worshiper got cut off for a year or so. It reopened to tourists in… 2020, I think?

Sometimes they’re weak swimmers who don’t realise the ocean isn’t the same as a shallow pool, whereas others have just never been near large bodies of water at all (not even pools) and just never learned that you had to learn to be able to swim. Most of these sound like the person didn't understand how X works but still wanted to go visit place X/do activity X. Yes the word "children" is ambiguous since it can mean the child of a particular person, or a person who is under a certain age. That ambiguity means you could hear and read references to "children" without understanding many times but to reach the age that you have a 19 year old child without ever getting that second meaning...I hope it is fake.

I volunteered to teach English at a local primary school in Mexico for a number of months and had the opportunity to travel a bit during vacation days. I ultimately loved most the community that I worked in because of the local friends that did so much to support me. But my favorite experiences while away from that town were watching cranky, orange-sprayed Karens yelling English at local vendors because the locals couldn't understand their maniacal ravings about how they wanted American-style queso with their tacos, or perhaps about how distressed they were that the locals assumed that they wanted the default corn tortillas instead of wheat ones. But what can I say? I guess the conclusion to be made is that Mexico really should do better about not putting Mexicans everywhere in -their country- my vacation spot.
