It is actually WAY easier to try and get the Naples mission before they go indepedent. Getting the CORES means you can annex the whole thing for trivial AE and no problem keeping Aragon under 50% liberty desire. Also means you can culture switch to Neapolitan early and form Two Sicilies after you are done with the Provence mission tree. And when you are done with the Two Sicilies tree, culture switch to Piedmontese and form Sardinia-Piedmont and do their missions. Then form France or Italy and do those missions. Provence is one crazy start.

As expected another great video, tho id like to point out one major mistake: your mission for Naples doesnt give you permanent claims if Naples is under PU, it gives you cores which is much better than taking Naples as PU imo.

Also I want to echo what others say about adding in some more history to the beginning of your videos. I took a bunch of late medieval to 20th century history in college and enjoy thst stuff. Arnold reminded me of the general I got yesterday... 6 shock, 5 fire, 0 maneuver, 0 siege. He was slow but using a smaller stack with a quick general to slow down enemies was good. It was almost always a stackwipe. :D

No Ludi, the King of Naples mission, if completed while Naples is a subject, gives CORES on Naples the claims are on Corsica and Sardinia. 4:39

Its better to unlock the first mission while Naples is still in a PU because you get CORES not permanent claims from it that way

I showed that path in my last Provence video, it is ofc really good but you need 2 wars to get Aragon PU since it's above 100% warscore to get all of Naples and Aragon will fall in a PU with Castile by that point

If you can boost relations with Austria while fighting England in the first war, you can definitely ally then and even join HRE after the war. Move capital to AIX or something to be next to the HRE and it would be around 190 relationship which won't be hard to get with alliance, royal marriage and insulting a rival!

10:52 I highly suggest getting mil access from france before declaring on england and moving some troops into their lands. you will NOT get black flagged if you're in allies land if you declare war and that way you can get on all the english land before france

Didn't René reside mostly in Provence? Especially in Aix. But I appreciate the fact that you talked about how national states were not a thing in the early modern era. It's hard to talk about national states before the French Revolution.

Aix-en-Provence is indeed worth a visit! Beautiful city. And while you are there, visit all the other beautiful places in Provence: Avignon, Les Baux-de-Provence, Pont-du-Gard (not Provence, but right next to it), Cassis, the Calanques National Park, Marseille (not so much, just kidding!) and the other small towns along the Côte d'Azur. Best time to visit is March-May and August-October, unless you like it 35°C+.

As a Provence player,I would simply retake the core province of Main from the English before give every single core on English-held Normandy & Gascony to France through the "promise of land". This is so that I have enough favours to ask France to give back the two core provinces of Lyonnais & Dauphine to Provence. But I want to hear Your opinion of this "strategy" I made

Just played a Province campaign myself. Literally had Castille Snipe the Naples Union while I was fighting Venice to gain access. Luckily beat Castille and forced them to release Naples. Though strange I couldn't just take the PU in the peace deal.

14:39 Yes, it is true. The best player is the one who can overcome different situations, no matter how hard they are. Although I am more a fan of restarting during the age of discovery because there are some starts that are actually easier. For example, Castile and France are the starting rivalries. France may have a chance to attack Castile, which might be tough for new players. However, when they are friends, Castile and France could beat the crap of Eastern countries.

At the end of the day, it's whatever you prefer; just today I started an Ethiopia game, playing MP with a friend. The absolute chad starting leader you get died from a random event a year into the game and I just said "fuck it mate, we're restarting that one, that's bullshit" and off we went. Could I still have done fine with the worse ruler and huge stab hit? Sure. Would it have been more enjoyable than just restarting quickly and getting back to the game? Yup.

However, in my first single game, he died in 1449 which is before the renaissance. How come a ruler who bring prosperity died that early? In that game, I play him until 1455, but still earlier than history.

Personal note: whenever I have played Provence, I have improved relations with Burgundy and eventually allied them to get the inheritance. Works quite often, even if they rival you at the start

Ludi you get CORES on Naples not perma-claims if Naples is a junior member of a PU and you click the mission. The cores are much better than a PU as you can full annex Naples in one war and instantly full core the territory, accept the culture and reduce autonomy to a lower autonomy than normal along with lower AE. Arragon often declares a restoration war in the current patch (as happened to you) allowing you to reliably get the cores after dealing with the English.

I currently have to work more to pay my rent, than a feudal serf had to work for his manorlord. I spend more effort on a place to live than an indentured serf... it sucks. (serfs in feudal England often had a prescribed number of days that they had to work for a lord, I have no prescribed number of days, but the number of days of work it takes me to get the prescribed amount of rent, is greater than the average number of days per year that a serf had to work for their lord... I'm too lazy to look up the numbers atm...)

3:20 not only it wasn't about countries or nationalities, these terms haven't even existed 'till very recently. Nobody would really call themselves "Napolitan" or "Castilian" or "English" before the 19th century. Peasants and other poor people were just "from a village", if (which didn't really happen much) someone asked them where they are from, they would just answer "oh, I'm from village X"/"I'm from Lord's X's keep"/"I serve under XXX". Clergy were just "Bishop/Archbishop/Patriarch/Priest of X". Lower nobles were just "Baronet/Baron/Knight/ of X" And everybody higher was known pretty much wherever they went, because: 1) despite what media portray, they were such a small percent of population that there were so little counts in your proximity that if you saw one, it'd be comparable to meeting president of your country or a very famous actor today, you just don't forget it. And that's for counts, if you met a duke, he was so powerful and rich compared to you it'd be like meeting Elon Musk or the dictator of China 2) they always traveled with a huge amount of servants and always flew some sort of sigil, coat of arms, or other heraldic bearing, and, again, there were so little of them that you knew pretty much every one, that was in a resonable distance (which wasn't much before trains were invented) and, if you traveled further, you were already rich and educated so you knew even more. Strange how we take terms like nationality as a granted in today's society, almost as if it was something obvious that was encoded in us like eye color or nose size, hell, we've even started wars and killed milions because of it

I figured it out. You know how if Naples is independent when you do the Claims of Rene mission you get a a PU mission and if they’re a subject you get cores? Same applies if Provence is a subject. If Provence is your subject, they get cores once you pass the King Rene requirements. That means any player who vassalizes them can use this strategy to gobble up Naples using cores. I had no idea but imo it makes them one of the best vassals in the game.

Ludi, all you need to do is get mil access to France. Leave 2 units in Anjou, move the rest of your army to Chatres. When you declare war, you can easily siege down all of Normandy.

You cant get mil access without cheats from France on day 1 since you start with hostile relations and need 1 month at least before they change to friendly/ally relations. You can do what you said after that or if france for some reason doesnt start hostile ofc, and I agree, its a good idea, but it depends on your start and how fast u wanna do the war

Ludi I played an Austria game where I used the Excommunication CB to subjugate Provence through my border with Lorraine. Halfway through integrating them, I realize they have cores on all of Naples. Not permanent claims. Cores. The Papal States were in the middle of taking half of Naples in a war, so they had no allies. I full annex the half of Naples that's left, take the rest from the Papal states. 15 agressive expansion combined. How does Provence get cores on Naples?

If naples is not free when you click the mission, ie in a personal union under someone else, you get cores instead of personal union. So this is all about what you prioritize, do you want a vassal who develops his own provinces for a while whilst contributing a minute amount of troops to your conquests or do you want to hold the lands directly immediately needing to culture convert them/accept their culture this early to get the most out of them. I have found that the personal union is the optimal play for me that early in the campaign

4:38 Its not perma claims its even cores. Thats why its great to fullfill this mission before the aragonese king dies. Then you can full annex Naples for almost no AE which is a huge jump in power for Provence if you accept the culture. Far better than a PU. This even allowed me to sell the lands in Lorraine to Burgundy without much issues so i could keep the alliance with them for the inheritance. 100% worth to restart for this if the aragonese king dies too early.

What I would (and will, when I play provence later on) is to call the french one or two months after I started the war... If you have scotland, The English will focus on them anyway... That way you can guarantee that you siege all provinces you need.
