I’ve always liked my 13x3 piccolos because they have so much range. This Ludwig is incredibly versatile with the old head on it, and of course Maestro McLean bringing it to life does it absolute justice..

I once owned a '66 4x14 downbeat in the same marine pearl finish. Sold it to a drum collector.. I'm now slightly more stupid....On a side note, these lugs were notorious for shifting during tensioning, and sometimes the interior lug screw would snap, break, or shave the insert hole making it bigger over time from tuning. Other than that slight annoyance, these snare drums are legendary, sound phenomenal as you can clearly hear, and looked really cool..

Excelente, beautifull. With 2 drums you showed creativity, fluidity, musicallity and youre only testing the drums. The internet is full with garage bashers with their 100mp/h doublle pedals and 324piece drum kits and 30piece cymbals and they all sound the same.Btw mid tuning is cool..👍from Croatia.

I dont get why we play bigger snares today just to fuck them up in the mix in the end. Without seeing the video I would have never even thought about a Piccolo in the low and med tuning. Seems like a Piccolo and someone to tune it like Carter is a must have for a versatile recording studio.

Wonderful sounds and playing! Piccolos sound great tuned low - I think they can have a great fat 'rock' sound for a backbeat. I have a 14 x 9 which is nowhere near as nice. A deep shell seems to give too many overtones and needs damping, which results in a less impressive sound, to my humble ears. With pp jazz playing and higher tuning it seems a bit less responsive, maybe because the heads are so far apart? I wonder if the reason deep drums are so popular is that they look much more macho and impressive than wimpy little 'piccolos' ? Even the name seems a bit lame 😏
