Haven't owned a more professional Lugwig snare drum in decades... Local music shop going out of business prompted me to visit and came away with the Mahogany one and WOW just WOW OMG it's super nice, love it just incredible drum. Mostly because of it's more controlled sweet tone, and of course it sounds superb with my Yamaha Absolute Maple drumkit! Way to go in this video and Lugwig thanks so very much!!!!!!!!!!!!

I liked the cherry in all tunings the best.

On a side note: I find these Hz freq. numbers extreeemely helpful! For me it's always a big difference between any "video" sound and my own live sound. Having the Hz freq. helps a lot to find out if I like this tuning for my setup as well!

For me it would be beech or walnut. The beech one has a really steep fall-off on the sustain, which makes it sound rather dry in comparison. The walnut just has the most satisfying crack to it, I think, while maintaining a certain fatness. I love all of them, but if i would have to choose one of them, it would probably be the walnut.

Snare Drums are a favorite topic of mine, I currently own 42 snare drums . Ludwig knows how to make snare drums . These four look and sound very nice. I'm drawn to the Cherry and Walnut drums. Both sound great in those tunings. These comparisons videos are cool, more Please!

I liked the mahogany the best, although none of them made me think "Man, I need to get this one!". And yes, I would like to see more videos like this, very well made video and informative as well :)

Great sounding snare drums ! I like the snare strainer on these drums, the p85 is so dated and cheap. Great review !
@ArtOfDrumming Жыл бұрын
totally agree on the snare strainer. Thanks for your feedback William!

Walnut is for me personaly is the best snaredrum
@andreasbreitwieser1449 Жыл бұрын
in my personal ears, i would use the cherry for funky stuff, the beech for pop, the walnut for rock and the mahogany for alternative......

I'd love to hear/see more comparison videos on your channel. For me, I liked the sound overall of the cherry wood drum the best, but prefer the finish on the beech wood drum. Sonically, the beech would be my second choice.

Yeah...good ...all 4 all are Nice sounding but if you look on the Ðunnett snares for exemple the George H. WAY series.. The mahagony shell sound and the finish looks very Nice to...

There's something about the design of these drums that makes Cherry and Mahogany sound better than Beech and Walnut, although that's not usually my preference. Maybe they're a little crispy in the upper mids.
@pawelmorrison Жыл бұрын
Cherry stands out. Bright and lively. I thought mahogany would be the nicest, but I actually found it quite boring and dead compared to the rest of them. That being said they're all fantastic on their own.

At Of Drumming, could you ask Sonor to send you some of their snares, even older ones, especially the Protean 14" and 12"? It would be really interesting to watch you reviewing them.

The only thing that's been boring me a bit lately is these tube lugs, so many snare drums have them that I'm slowly starting to get sick of them. Sometimes I regret that Ludwig doesn't use the solutions they are known for. As for the snare series itself - great sound, I was strongly considering the Universal Mahogany model last year....
@ArtOfDrumming Жыл бұрын
Hey Jakub, glad you enjoyed our video. agree with the tube lugs but such a great value for that price.

Oh, false color video. You need fix colour gammout/space, for correct skin tone. Uncorrect color transform function.

The Cherry one sounded higher and tighter. The other 3 sounded pretty much the same.
