I used to read 40k and collect the figures, but now I just listen to the lore on youtube (mainly Leutin). It has got so expensive to even begin again on the TT game. I remember getting a starting pack for a tenner at my local GW shop (now shutdown), it had about 40 pieces of Space Marines, a edition book and a free novel that was "new at the time" (Ignorant Armies). So if your into reading, I would start there as that got me hooked through the nineties. Although now I cannot really read anymore (eyes). And I can't get into audiobooks. But leutin should definitely get paid to read 40k books, then I could listen to them.

The stories of a Kasrkin deploying with Space Marines is some of the most fun stories to read. Space Marines know the Kasrkin are regular humans however those same humans are able to keep up with the Marines as well as the Marines not having to alter their tactics because the Kasrkin are strong enough to deploy Space Marine strategies. Getting Space Marine respect despite not undergoing the space marine operations, is awesome.

My band was all aboard, preparing weapons. So was Inquisitor General Neve and a six-man squad of Cadian Elite Shock, impassive troopers in winter camo armour, prepping matt-white lasrifles and stubbers in the crew-bay. ‘God-throne, they’re tough-ass bastards,’ Nayl muttered to me as I passed him coming out of the bay. ‘Impressed?’ ‘Scared is more like it. Regular Cadian is soldier enough for me. These are elite. The elite of the elite. The Kasrkin.’ ‘The what?’ It wasn’t like an experienced fighter to show deference to other fighting men. ‘The Kasrkin. The Cadian best, and you can imagine what that means. Holy Terra, they’re stone-killers!' Echbar and his Kasrkin charged in past us to engage. In truth, I may say now that they were somehow more terrifying than the daemonhost. For Prophaniti was a supernatural thing, and one expected it to be horrifying. The Kasrkin were just men. It made their actions all the more astonishing. Six white blurs, they fell upon the cultists, lasguns barking at close range. They wasted no shots. One shot, one kill. The next few seconds are burned in my memory. I will never see such heroism again, I am sure. Captain Echbar and two of his Kasrkin troopers assaulted Prophaniti from the rear. Their lasguns wouldn’t fire because Bequin and I were in their range-field. Echbar body-tackled the daemonhost, smashing it away from us. Prophaniti hurled him aside, and then incinerated the second Kasrkin mid-leap with its eyes. The third jammed his Cadian bayonet up to the hilt in Prophaniti’s breastbone. Fire exploded back from the wound, down the trooper’s arm and engulfed him. He fell back screaming as Echbar came in again, a ragged hole in his cheek and throat. His knife, clenched double-handed, split Prophaniti open down the back bone. The warp-energies that boiled out blew Echbar apart. Screaming, Prophaniti writhed away through the air. I knew it wasn’t dead. I knew it couldn’t really die. But the Cadian elite had given me an opening by sacrificing their lives. They had fallen in the service of the God-Emperor, which is what every Cadian is born to do.” Eisenhorn - Malleus (Dan Abnett)

Fun fact: The Kasrkin name being derived from the local dialects word for fortress bears striking resemblance to the real life Spanish alcázar. They are castles (beautiful ones at that) built by the Islamic caliphates which ruled Spain until the Reconquista. The word for these castles in Arabic would be al-Qasr (Very similar to Kasr), from which the later Spanish word alcázar would be derived. No clue if this was an inspiration for the name but I thought it was a fun coincidence at least :)

Another possible etymology is via german "Kaserne", "barracks".

That sounds like it could be an amazing operation if they decided to do something like that, especially if it was set on that jungle world. @codycaron24777 ай бұрын
I listen to a luetin video at least a dozen times. Picking back up where i dozed off the night before.
I've always had a certain attachment to the Kasrkin. Back in 2004, when I first got introduced to the game, my friend had a few sets of Kasrkin, but he had been buying several armies, and what Guard he had he decided not to add to, so he painted these black, and they became Inquisitorial Stormtroopers, for his Grey Knights, and Sisters of Battle, and I really liked them. Cadians have always been my favorite Guard regiment, and since 3rd/4th Ed Guard didn't have custom Senior Officer models, these were "elite" Cadians, and I was happy. Then someone remembered that Guard don't have elite, and other regiments, even as many disappeared, didn't have this equivalent, and they disappeared. Eventually, we got Mil Temp, to replace them, but be available to any regiment, and Veterans, orherwise, and now they're back!...but Cadia is gone. I accept that "the Cadian way" can be taught on other worlds, so while the purple eyes might fade, we'll always have the Cadians, but without Cadia to protect, I don't know if the Kasrkin will continue to exist, or if the Tempestus will just replace them, again? It's too bad, because I still love them, but the "second" Krieg unit is horses, and few to no one fields Rough Riders, to say nothing of actual Death Riders, and current Catachan don't even have a second, elite unit...or special weapons variety, so I do wonder, even with new models recently requisitioned, what the future holds for the defenders of a world that no longer exists?

A digression, but your point about imperial propaganda at the 28:10 mark made me realize that Sly Marbo is most likely either a total fabrication or perhaps a team of elite Catachans who take on the name of Sly Marbo to fit said fabrication... or maybe he's one of those "retired" Custodes (I forget what they're called) pretending to be a particularly tall and badass Catachan, although that seems far less likely. If there is a "canon" answer to who Sly Marbo is, I am simply unaware of it.
@Liberty_or_Ded4 ай бұрын
15:28 Wrong. The Astra Militarum are not "peon workers handed a lasgun and taught how to march." This is a really rookie mistake for someone like you to make, dude. Imperial Guard are the top 1% of a planet's PDF who are tithed to the Imperium. They are the best of the best of a planet's army, already having undergone PDF training, and then being given additional training and familiarization into the Guard. I really don't like it when people dismiss the IG as being "peons" and "cannon fodder," because to be the top 1% of a force of tens if not hundreds of millions is no small feat. This has been in canon for many years and reiterated throughout those years. The Militarum skims the cream from the standing armies of the Imperium's defense forces. It doesn't just pull untrained, undisciplined halfwits and then give them the Omnissiah's bounties after teaching them to march for two weeks, because nobody would ever expect the men of the Guard to stand the line against shit like orks and nids for even a half second if that was the case. The fact they don't break and run from ork charges, for example, speaks to their immense pre-existing discipline. If you're gonna make lore about the Guard, actually go over the real lore of the guard.

A topic for a video idea - who or what has the emporer been through the ages of man? For instance, we know there are hints that he was Alexander the Great, he was certainly an Argonaut, possibly Gilgamesh etc. I think exploring the emporers actions through history and how that relates to our reality is exciting. I like the idea of tying in real world legends and myths into the 40k universe and, in fact, find it an endearing part of the franchise. It is something I wish more lore tubers would dive into.

Tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of Guardsmen on a planetary scale is miniscule. Operation Uranus in World War 2 involved ~ 1.2 million soldiers on the Soviet Side and ~ 400.000 on the German side. An entire planetary invasion of a moderately settled planet would have to involve at least a few million if not more to offset the advantage of the defender ( close-by manpower pool and industrial base while the attacker needs to bring in new formations and equipment from elsewhere ).
